1:30We are ready to rock and roll with today's edition of the program at this very moment.
1:36Many of you, if not most of you, are making your transition from your part-time jobs where
1:40you generate an income to your full-time jobs where you cultivate an outcome.
1:45And as you do so, I want to remind you to do it with intentionality, recognizing first and
1:50foremost that the first human institution that God created was the family with marriage at
1:56the center before you ever get to modern iterations of civil government, New Testament church,
2:01orders of prophets, orders of priests, you have the family with marriage at the center.
2:06The first command that got gave to mankind was delivered to mankind within the familial
2:11context.
2:13None of that is coincidental.
2:15All of it, all of it is, or should I say all of those portions are features of God's
2:22mind and his divine ordinance for mankind.
2:25And it is a sober reminder as today, and some of you have tuned in during the news segment,
2:33that visionary family advocate, Christ follower, Dr. James Dobson passed away today. He was a
2:43pioneer for communicating God's view for the family, recognizing that the fundamental building
2:50block for any society or civilization, it is the family. That if we do not get family
2:56right. It doesn't matter what else we do. He pioneered the ministry focus on the family.
3:03Subsequent to that, he had the Dr. James Dobson, the Dobson Family Institute. He is
3:09a radio broadcast hall of famer. What some people may not recognize that he was such a
3:17visionary that he was instrumental in founding not only his own ministry, but many other
3:21ministries. For example, the Family Research Council. That was a product of Dr. Dobson's
3:27vision that God gave to him. Some people may not recognize, but as he advocated for God's
3:33view for the family within the public square, his vision also led him to be a part of founding
3:37alliance defending freedom. Because as we contend for the family and have policy shaped to support
3:44family, he had the foresight by God's divine providence and not alone. He wasn't exclusive,
3:51but he was one of the major voices that contributed to the formation of Alliance of Indian Freedom.
3:55So did Dr. So did Don Wahlman.
3:58Don Wahlman was a part of that as well,
3:59having that type of foresight.
4:04The family of God in our nation has witnessed
4:07a true, true visionary and trailblazer
4:13who's now, his faith has become sight.
4:16And he's one who I have been a beneficiary of
4:19from a distance, but also listening to his broadcasts
4:24as I'm driving around New Orleans.
4:25know he's talking about raising boys and these other things and and so he is
4:33survived by his wife of 64 years. Shirley they have two children, Danie and Ryan,
4:38but Dr. Dobson has now passed on and I'm sure that when he if he were to hear me
4:44say that our full-time jobs start in our homes and outcome cultivation is the
4:50full-time job I've ever believed her. I wouldn't certainly not want to speak
4:54for him, but I'm confident in saying he probably would have a
4:56hardy amen to that assertion.
5:02All right, if you're new to the program, I want to let you know,
5:04we begin every show here with the word of God.
5:07Simply put, it is theological malpractice to attempt to navigate
5:12the issues of the day with your Bible collecting dust.
5:16We don't want the Bible on the sidelines of life.
5:19God's word is the foundation and anchor that enables us and empowers us
5:24to do life. So we welcome the scripture to be front and center as we
5:29endeavor to navigate the issues of the day. Today we're going to begin in Matthew chapter 25,
5:34a very familiar passage of scripture. It is Matthew's recounting of the parable of the
5:40talents. And I just want to point something out from there and really challenge our audience here
5:48with God's word and really welcome the Lord to do the challenge. He's the one who
5:53who doesn't Matthew 25 verse 14, Matthew chapter 25 verse 14.
5:58And this is what God's word says for it will be.
6:01This is a parable, okay, for it will be like a man going on a journey who called his servants
6:08and entrusted to them his property to one, he gave five talents to another, to to another one,
6:17to each according to his ability, then he went away.
6:22Now, many people have heard sermons concerning the parable of the talents.
6:27We know what happened with the one who was given five talents, multiplied them to 10, the
6:32one who was given two talents, multiplied them to four, the one who had one buried it in the
6:36ground was called a wicked servant.
6:38But what I want you to focus on in this text is right at the latter part of verse 15 that
6:46In the parable, the Master gave to each servant
6:52talents according to his ability.
6:57The simple notion that I want to convey to you today
7:02is God knows your ability.
7:07God knows my ability.
7:12I want to invite you to pair this passage of scripture
7:14with Colossians chapter three,
7:16verses 24, sorry, 23 and 24.
7:22In Colossians chapter three, verse 23,
7:23it says, whatever you do, do your work
7:25hardly as for the Lord, rather than from men knowing
7:29that from the Lord, you will receive the reward
7:31of the inheritance.
7:33It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
7:38When you pair those notions that we as Christ followers,
7:41you heard me say before that if you are an employer
7:44and he has that privilege to hire a Christ follower
7:47as an employee, that should be a day of rejoicing for that employer because you have a person
7:51whose labor is not based on any humanistic standard, but their labor is as unto the Lord.
7:58If you have a would-be employee who's looking to be hired and they find that there's an employer
8:02who is a Christian, they should rejoice having the opportunity to recognize that my employer
8:07is not going to be.
8:09Now notice I say, shoot.
8:11My employer is not going to be like any other worldly employer because my employer does their
8:17work as unto the Lord and not unto men who requires us to serve him heartily.
8:26Another way to say that, to live the lifestyle of worship, do our discharge of vocation,
8:32normalizing excellence.
8:35For the believer, excellence should be standard because we do all that we do as unto the Lord,
8:41You've heard me say worship is not an activity limited, any particular activity.
8:45Worship is a lifestyle and the pinnacle of that lifestyle is obedience.
8:49The question I want to present to you to invite you to consider
8:53and welcome the Spirit of God to enable you to navigate your own assessment
8:57is are you pouring out
9:02all that you have?
9:07Are you truly giving it your all?
9:12Or if your honest assessment would be,
9:18I'm probably functioned at 75%,
9:19but I'm not operated at 100%.
9:22Now, I'm not saying anybody needs to gas themselves out.
9:25The scripture tells us plainly,
9:26so on 127, the Lord gives his beloved sleep.
9:29This whole notion of burning the candle on both ends
9:31is an unbiblical concept.
9:32God gives his children rest.
9:33He is one who established the day of rest.
9:36That man is not made for the Sabbath,
9:38the Sabbath is made for man.
9:40So I am not asserting anything along those lines,
9:43But I am asking you and inviting you to have an honest inquiry
9:48as to whether or not you are giving it all that you have.
9:54And I wanna add this concept into it.
9:56One of the great blessings in my life that I had,
9:59I had a basketball coach,
10:00he was actually my JB coach in high school
10:02and I ended up learning later
10:04that he actually was a former Navy SEAL.
10:08But he did something for me
10:10and helping me to realize
10:11that I had more in the tank than I thought I had in the tank.
10:15Now the only way I could learn that there was more in the tank than I thought I had in
10:20the tank is that my coach drew out from me everything that I thought I had.
10:25And then at that moment, you know what happened?
10:27My coach said, Abraham, you think you pointed all out, but there is more in you.
10:33And I know there is more in you.
10:36And he began to coach that more that was in me, coaching it out of me to the point to
10:42aware, I didn't just go to what I thought I had. I always knew I learned through this process.
10:48Oh man, that's more in the tape. Now I'm communicating to you what happened with a natural relationship
10:56with a basketball coach. How much more when you read Matthew 25 when the Lord through this parable
11:03to saying he gave to each one of his servants according to his ability? See for the believer,
11:11excellence should become standardized, should become normalized.
11:19When it comes to my children, for example, God requires of me not to raise my children to the
11:29Abe standard. God calls me to raise my children to the maximum of what he put in them.
11:34So I have a dude in a responsibility to serve just as my JV coach was for me, coach Charles,
11:39shout out to coach Charles, to do what my coach did for me.
11:44I have a duty to see, oh, my little ones think that's all they have, but I see that there is more in them.
11:50And I have a duty to draw that out in them to the place where they begin to recognize,
11:58whoo, there's more in me than I thought that I had.
12:01And when you understand the reality of the parable of the talents,
12:04to the one five talents was given, that multiplied to ten,
12:07commendation from the master, the one with two talents, multiply the four,
12:11for commendation from the master.
12:14Notice that the commendation didn't say,
12:16where you with the four talents now,
12:18I'm gonna evaluate you on the 10 talent man standard.
12:21No.
12:23When we stand before the beam of seat of Christ,
12:25the judgment seat of Christ,
12:25he's not gonna evaluate us on a sliding comparative scale.
12:29He's not gonna grade us on a curve.
12:32He's gonna evaluate us knowing what he put in us,
12:36the capacity that he put in us.
12:41And evaluate whether or not we have operated
12:45Hardly as unto the Lord, knowing as the end of Colossians chapter 3 verse 24 says,
12:50it is the Lord Christ whom we serve. When you consider whether or not you are offering your all,
12:55here's an additional consideration. Is your offering an offering that is merely humanistic
13:02or is it an offering of worship? How do I show up for work? Is it merely about punctuality and
13:10in the function of the clock, punching a clock,
13:12or is it an offering of worship?
13:15How do I resolve conflict at work or at home?
13:19Is it merely us engaging in humanistic activity
13:21or is it an offering of worship?
13:26Our occupational pursuits, our vocational pursuits,
13:30is it time to step out in faith to launch that business?
13:35Whatever we do, brothers and sisters,
13:38the aroma of incense should be evident
13:41Because what we do is worship, which is why the things
13:46that we are engaged in, they are spiritual
13:49because we are engaged in them.
13:52So the question again, are you offering your all?
13:59Are you functioning according to a maximization
14:03of the capacity that God has given you?
14:05Or as a spirit of God navigates this assessment,
14:09you're able to stand and say,
14:10Mm, I see here Lord, but there's more in the tank.
14:17My encouragement to you as I encourage myself is to be poured out like a drink offering in
14:23service to the Lord's purpose so that when you stand before the judgment seat of Christ,
14:29you can honestly say, Lord, I gave you all that I am.
14:33Because as you've heard me say numerous times on this show, when you are captured by the
14:38resurrected King of glory, you move away from merely giving offerings to becoming the offering
14:46to where you live the declaration,
14:48all that I am is yours.
14:52May our King be glorified as we live as living offerings.
15:01A discipleship minute with Joseph Parker.
15:04Every disciple of Jesus Christ
15:06would be wise to strive to become a kingdom warrior.
15:10A kingdom warrior is a disciple of Christ
15:12who skillfully puts the word of God,
15:14which is the sword of the Spirit to work every day.
15:18People everywhere are facing intense spiritual warfare.
15:22We face it at home, at school, at work, everywhere.
15:27What if people say that they don't want to be involved
15:30in spiritual warfare?
15:31None of us have a choice in the matter.
15:34Like civilians who happen to live in a war-torn land,
15:37war has come to us like it or not.
15:40Since we have no choice but to face spiritual warfare
15:43in our lives, then let's face it head on.
15:47We can live like civilians and just become victims
15:49of the killing, abuse, problems, and difficulties of war.
15:54Or we can choose to become well equipped soldiers and warriors.

16:13the third here, and I am honored to have in studio with me
16:17a man who is a man of God, a Christ follower,
16:21a husband, a father, my best friend from college, by the way,
16:26said that before. And we've been rocking for 27 years now.
16:30Because you're old. Good night. Executive director of
16:35harnessing youth potential and energy, a ministry to the youth
16:39in Morero, Louisiana, I said my hometown area, some call it the
16:45best bank. I don't know about that. I'm talking about none of the
16:51the my brother seated to my right. Mr. David McGee, Junior David,
16:54thank you for joining me here on the program.
16:56Thanks for having me, brother.
16:58It is truly, truly, truly my pleasure. And I because I know you,
17:02I know you were listening as we were walking through the scripture a little
17:05while ago. Yes, sir. And one of the things that that we,
17:10when we first met that we resonated with each other on was one being from
17:15Louisiana in the New Orleans area, but two being both 17 years old,
17:21and committed to following the Lord being from our hometowns.
17:24And so as you, as we walk through the description,
17:27the first segment, I'm pretty sure certain things
17:31just were stirred in your heart.
17:33And I just want to give you an opportunity to share some of that
17:35as we start the conversation we're going to have on the day show.
17:38Amen. Thanks for having me.
17:40I'm glad that I can be here and share this space with you and with your audience.
17:46But you talked about a description on Matthew 25,
17:49where you mentioned he gave in the story of the talents where he gave to each of them
17:54according to their ability. And, you know, with my organization, Hype, it's one of the
18:01things that we talk about. It's kind of like the linchpin of who we are and what we do.
18:04And what it is is when it says according to their ability, we have a poster in our building,
18:09and it says accountability. And one of the things that we communicate to every person,
18:13because we speak to young people and people from all different walks of life, different socioeconomic
18:18backgrounds, people with money, people without money. And I tell them no one is born with
18:23the empty account. Everyone is born with an ability in their account. You may not have any
18:29money, but God has placed something in you that draws the resources that you need to accomplish
18:34the purpose that God has given you on this earth. You say it in your intro, we're born
18:39for this moment. The skills, the talents, the gifts, the things that God has put us, put
18:44in us are for that moment. And so our goal is to try to figure out what is the gift and
18:51ability that God has placed in each young person, discover that ability, develop it, and how
18:57do we use that ability to share and serve, to bring the kingdom of heaven from heaven
19:03to earth. So, yeah, nobody's born bankrupt. We all have an ability and that ability has
19:08the ability to draw the resources necessary to impact the world in that dark moment.
19:14Now, if you are watching the show, there are images on the screen from hype, the ministry,

19:26One of the things that's mentioned on the about us page concerning hype on your website, hypenola.org,

19:34or a G as you said that you're dedicated to equipping young people with support, skills
19:38and confidence they need to lead lives of purpose.
19:43Now I've just read from that on your about page.
19:46How would you describe what it is that you do at hype?
19:49Sure.
19:50So three main goals of hype is education, experience and exposure.
19:56One, educating them, teaching them something they may not know.
19:59Miles Maroese to say it all the time, our goal is to permanently damage your ignorance.
20:03when they walk out those doors, we want them to know more
20:06than they knew before they walked in
20:07and experience we want to allow them to see,
20:10touch and do things that they've never done before
20:14and exposure, introducing them the people, careers,
20:17hobby, interest and a way of life
20:19that they may not have ever been exposed to before.
20:22And so when they walk in those doors,
20:25sometimes for the first time, they've never seen somebody
20:27who has a mom, a dad, a family intact
20:31who lives a certain way, loves the Lord.
20:34And so that's our goal is to expose them.
20:36Hopefully when they walk out of that door, they're the same.
20:38We can't guarantee that they've been changed,
20:40but they've at least been exposed in the know
20:41that there is a better way, and there's a different way
20:43that exists.
20:45Now I covered on the show yesterday,
20:47a story out of Kettering, Ohio,
20:51and it follows a similar story from a portion of Pennsylvania
20:56of Pennsylvania, where you had Chick-fil-A local Chick-fil-A store owners who adopted a policy
21:03that simply disallows or the minimum discourages minors from being in the store without being
21:09accompanied by an adult.
21:13And just through a kind of a walk down memory lane, many people and our audience here saying
21:18these are things that they had not experienced in their lifetimes growing up.
21:21But we're seeing things like this happening more and more and more.
21:25Trump just led a federal basically takeover of policing in Washington, Washington, D.C.
21:31And many of the people in D.C. were saying some of frankly the criminality that was being
21:38perpetuated there where it was happening by minors largely.
21:42When you hear things like that and understanding the work and the ministry that God has called
21:47you to, what is your immediate reaction when you hear some of those things?
21:52So it's gut wrenching because, you know, these are spaces where they've, in any other space
22:01in Czech filet, they've invited young people to be able to come and hang out and be apart
22:06and not cause any disruptions.
22:08And so it makes me think about, and Ava said this before, it's often that you hear me reference
22:12my father.
22:13So this is something that you used to tell us, son, when you leave out of here, you're
22:18not just representing yourself, you're representing me,
22:22the McGee Last Name.
22:24And so when we see these young people
22:26causing disturbances in these places of business
22:32is extremely discouraging.
22:33I think it's almost a direct reflection of the family
22:38and sometimes even the community they're in.
22:40And if they are or are not involved in the church,
22:44because the family and the mom and the dad
22:47and the other parties that are involved
22:51have the responsibility of harnessing
22:54and focusing that child and their gift and their ability.
22:57And we often talk about height being the, if there's power,
23:02but if it is not harnessed or controlled, it's deadly.
23:05And so when you don't have the right parameters,
23:08barriers and guidance, then it can do a lot of damage.
23:11We witnessed that in New Orleans.
23:13Water is the thing that makes New Orleans
23:15important to the rest of the world.
23:17We are a major port in the nation.
23:20But when that water is beyond the boundary,
23:22it gets beyond the levy system
23:23that's made to protect and keep it safe.
23:26It damages, it can damage the whole city.
23:28And so I think that's kind of what we're seeing now
23:30with these young people when they're out of control.
23:31And that means some of the barriers that are in the safeguards
23:34that are supposed to be set in place aren't in place.
23:36And water finds a way, if there's a hole, it'll find it.
23:40So often I'm asked this question
23:43And what I do for a living kind of indicates my answer to it.
23:49But I get asked a question sometimes from people
23:51who are frustrated, sometimes people who have been disappointed,
23:53sometimes by people who are frankly afraid on many fronts.
23:57Are we too far gone as a society to respond
24:02to the crises that abound currently?
24:06Like when you see these things,
24:07you recognize some of the society
24:12societal deconstruction that has taken place frankly at the family level.
24:16I often say we'll never be able to out politic deficiencies that abound in the home.
24:21Right. My question is, from your vantage point, are we too far gone as a society or
24:30is there a basis to have hope to respond to the chaos we often see in various sectors of our society?
24:38So, you know, raised in church, I always think about answers in scripture.
24:42That's what leads us. And there's a description that says, hope, defer, makes the heart sick,
24:46but we don't function as believers as if there are people without hope.
24:51We serve and I'm going to say this intentionally, a resurrected savior.
24:55I remember getting to a point in my life where I was discouraged about some of the things that I
24:59was seeing and experiencing and wondering if anything can be done. And I asked God, in my own
25:04personal life, how far down are you going to let me go before you kick in and you do the supernatural
25:10thing that you do use your supernatural power. And before I could even get an answer,
25:15I heard the Holy Spirit say, well, God is able to raise the dead. And if we can, and I heard someone
25:21say this, the precursor to being a believer in Christ is believing in the death burial and the
25:28resurrection. So if that's the precursor, then believing that someone can be dead and resurrected,
25:35then anything else after that should be easy. So when I look at a situation, the Bible says,
25:40We walk by faith and not by sight.
25:42So I cannot go by what I see, I have to go by what I know in the scripture.
25:46In the scripture, I know I serve a God that is all powerful and that he's able to redeem
25:50the lost.
25:51That is what we are here for.
25:52That's what the body of Christ is for.
25:54I can't look at their situation and deem them lost.
25:57He came to seek and to save that which was lost.
26:01Now with your work with hype, I know you do work with the, and you have done work with
26:06that you have in our justice system, you do work with the public school system in the
26:11New Orleans area. Would you just share with our audience here a little bit of how you interact with
26:16those basic, those different population segments and doing what you do through hype? Sure. So,
26:24I used to work at juvenile court in my local juvenile court and drug court in particular.
26:29And so a lot of times by the time those young people would get involved in the drug court system,
26:35they're at the end of the spectrum. They're on their way possibly to going to detention.
26:40They've been on probation and diversion. And so this is sometimes the last this effort for them.
26:46And so I started hype because I saw there was a lot of young people who are getting involved in the
26:51system, but we needed to do some things on the back end or even on the front end. I'm sorry
26:56to try to prevent them from getting into this space and to save some of those who are on the
27:00the fringes. And so what we started to do and the way we reached them and it's in our wording,
27:06the word potential is the root word is potent. It means powerful. And so we want to move those
27:12young people from being possibly powerful to powerful. And the way we do that is start to
27:16find out what it is that God has placed in them, what would he created to do, what are
27:20the interests, what are the hobbies you used the word vocation earlier, that word vocation
27:23comes from literally the word call. What is the calling that's happening in your heart that
27:29God is placed there and so we start to surround them with the people, the places and the resources
27:33necessary to develop some of those callings.
27:36And we try to reach them where they are.
27:37We were talking other night and that's something else.
27:39Some of his back to basics is teaching them the one just be respectful.
27:42Yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, no ma'am.
27:44We make the assumption that they know these things and they haven't been taught those things.
27:48To be honest with you, you grew up in New Orleans.
27:50Some of the young people that we work with are groomed to survive in a very rough environment.
27:57And so the things that we perceive to be manily
28:01are perceived to be weak in an environment that they're in.
28:04And we have to show them that they can navigate both spaces
28:07by being respectful and believe that the way
28:11that God has intended for young people to function
28:13and families to function is the correct way.
28:16And it is a way that is gonna prosper,
28:17not just the family but the community.
28:19So we have to reach them there as opposed to sometimes
28:22speaking beyond them thinking they should know
28:24these things already.

29:15So would you mind sharing a little bit some of the journey
29:19that some of the children who have come through hype,
29:22the journey they've gone through,
29:23kind of where some of them might have started
29:25and where as a result of what God has done in their lives
29:28through the ministry, how they've been able to be served well
29:32through the work that you're doing through hype.
29:34Sure, two examples come to mind readily.
29:36And one of them is we had a young man,
29:40his grandmother had passed and he was living
29:41with his grandmother for whatever reason.
29:44He didn't live with his biological parents
29:46and his immediate family.
29:47And when she passed, he ended up living with the grandmother's boyfriend, who was not obligated
29:54to take care of him, but he wanted to.
29:58And he wouldn't...
29:59Let's just pause for a second on this, right?
30:01You say the grandmother's boyfriend.
30:04Boyfriend.
30:05I did say that.
30:06The grandmother's boyfriend.
30:07We firmly entered the era where...
30:10Now I know some of you listening say, wait, what?
30:13to where the whole concept of grandparents
30:15and boyfriends and girlfriends are a foreign phenomenon,
30:20but in some segments of our society,
30:23grandmother and boyfriend are just as everyday as breathing.
30:30Am I right about it?
30:31100% correct.
30:32Okay, if you want to, we can just plan a flag pull,
30:34I'll say something real quick.
30:36I've had conversations with young people.
30:37And when I say the age range that we work with
30:39is somewhere between middle school and high school,
30:41That's so that 13 to 18 will take him as young as 10.
30:45So I say that.
30:46So I'm talking to the young people day and I ask them questions
30:49like how many young people in here want to be married?
30:53None of them are boys.
30:55None of them raise their hand.
30:57When I say how many young people want to have children,
30:59all of them raise their hand.
31:01And so and I asked how many of them have been in the church
31:04lately, almost none of them have been in church lately.
31:07We've come to a space where the things that we thought
31:10were common, are no longer common.
31:13And so that's why I say we have to revisit
31:14some of the basic things of family
31:18and how to treat people you love and care about
31:21and how to answer them in a mannerly way.
31:23Just those things alone, I'll be a miracle worker.
31:25If I could teach young people how to be respectful,
31:27how to be helpful around the house and how to be clean.
31:29And that sounds simple, but it's not so simple
31:33to a person who doesn't have anybody to teach them those things.
31:35Man yesterday I was talking on the show
31:37and I started in first Chronicles 12,
31:40where the sons of Issacar are working with the tribe
31:42of Zebulun, where they understood the signs at the time
31:44and knew what was needed to be done.
31:46But then it says, and Zebulun had 50,000 troops
31:49who were gathered with singleness of purpose
31:51to support David.
31:53And I was saying that we are experiencing
31:55seismic societal shifts that are happening
31:59in a short amount of time and wondering if people
32:02are recognizing how cataclysmic many of these,
32:08not cataclysmic necessarily, but how significant, how start these shifts are.
32:13And if we're not recognizing the types of shifts that are happening,
32:16we're not going to be able to discern properly how we are to respond.
32:20And so you're referring to one of the things and, and, and again,
32:25grandparents and boyfriends and girlfriend, what, what kind of thing is it?
32:28But this in some portions of our society, this is normal.
32:32When we come back from the break, cause you could probably hear the disrespectful music as well as I can hear it.
32:36I want to have a conversation about that, recognizing the changes.
32:40While we know this is the standard that God's Word has articulated.
32:44How do we hold fast at that standard while being effective ambassadors of Christ within
32:49the context that we are in current?

34:15Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton the third here.
34:18My guest is David McGee, Jr. Executive Director of Harness and Use Potential Energy, also known
34:25as Hype, based in Morero, Louisiana on the West Bank, right outside of New Orleans, Louisiana,
34:30my hometown day before we went to the break,
34:34you were sharing a story that I invited you to share
34:37based on some of the really successes
34:41that God has brought forth through the ministry
34:43that you're engaged in there.
34:45And you were talking about a young man
34:47whose grandmother had a boyfriend.
34:48I want you to invite you to finish that story.
34:51Sure, so his grandmother passed
34:53and his grandmother was the one who was helping to raise him.
34:56And when she passed,
34:58He stayed with the grandmother's boyfriend,
35:01who was not related to him,
35:03but he decided to try to help him out.
35:05And so the young man went into...
35:06The boyfriend decided to help the...
35:07Yes. Yes.
35:08And he decided to, but he started to go into,
35:11like I say, the depression.
35:12He literally would go in his room.
35:13He would not come out.
35:14And this was, and he stopped going to school.
35:17This was for about two years.
35:19He did not go to school.
35:19He missed two years of school,
35:21and he was somewhere around a freshman at the time.
35:23Freshmen are a sophomore in high school.
35:26And so in a desperation and a desperate effort,
35:31he got in contact with someone who gave him our number
35:33and he came out and brought him to a hype session.
35:37And long story short, we kind of pushed him a little,
35:40held him accountable to the ability that was in him.
35:43He called him his grandfather,
35:45but it was his grandma's boyfriend.
35:48So his grandfather, as he called him,
35:50took him and we gave him some advice
35:53to start pushing him and holding him accountable
35:55some of these areas and not allow him to go into depression.
35:57And we started walking through that with him.
35:59He did not like what we did, but it helped him out.
36:04And he eventually made up the two years in school.
36:07We sent him to an alternative school.
36:09At the time I was on the board of the school,
36:11and he became one of the fastest students
36:16to accumulate credits in the school
36:19because he can work at his own pace.
36:21And within a year and a half, he was graduating.
36:24and he graduated in his class and came out of his shell
36:28and became a pretty good young man
36:32and became very, very grateful for that experience.
36:35And so that's one of many opportunities
36:39that we've had to work with young people,
36:40but one of the things that you hit at,
36:42and we work with the young people,
36:44but a lot of the heavy lifting has to be done
36:46with the parents and the guardians
36:48because we only see them for so long.
36:49So we have to equip the family to be able to sustain
36:53the trajectory without us being involved as much.
36:57Mm, would you share if you can a bit of how you've been able
37:01to do that to date when you describe,
37:05you have the kind of immediate intervention,
37:07almost like a triage with the youth,
37:10but also in developing the family into that process
37:16so that they can sustain outside of the formative
37:21and informal hype sessions that you guys have,
37:23would you share a little bit of an experience in that regard?
37:26Sure, so listen,
37:28Biblically, you hinted at this earlier in your commentary
37:30and speaking of scripture,
37:33the family is the cornerstone of the community.
37:35It is the beginning of creation
37:36how God set up the way we are supposed to answer
37:38even interact with Him.
37:40And so what we recognize early on is when we work
37:42with young people, we only have them for so long.
37:45But if we can get the family setting set up
37:48the way God intended it to be,
37:50we can have a greater impact.
37:51So we started to not just work with the young people,
37:53but we started to have parent meetings.
37:55And we started to, in particular before COVID,
37:57we wanted to have them at least four times in a year.
38:00And outside of those parent meetings,
38:02where we would equip them with the tools, the skills,
38:05the knowledge that they need to be able to function
38:09on their own, we started to have individual meetings
38:12with them and their families together outside
38:15of just the meetings that we had with their young person.
38:17And if that meant going to their home, talking to them about
38:22some of the approach that they had.
38:24And like I said before, there are a lot of things that
38:27when you grow up in a two-parent household,
38:29in a household as godly and has a good foundation,
38:31there are a lot of assumptions that are made.
38:32And when you walk into some of these homes,
38:34these families don't have the tools.
38:36We say something simple, like behavior
38:38that is rewarded is often repeated.
38:40And so we have young people who will get arrested
38:41and go to what we call a rivard,
38:43it's like juvenile detention.
38:44And when they walk out,
38:46their parents, mom in particular would buy them
38:48the newest lady, the Nike's.
38:51And the child goes, oh, I can get in trouble and still.
38:53And so when we start to show parents,
38:55you're rewarding him for bad behavior.
38:57And that sounds like oversimplification,
38:59but it is an illustration of some of the things
39:03that parents didn't even realize
39:04that they were doing by perpetuating the same behavior.
39:07So we try to have instances where we shine a light
39:10on some of those things and they have those aha moments.
39:12And ultimately, giving them the blueprint
39:15for what God intended the family to look like.
39:18In many instances, you have lots of people
39:20who are willing to stand on or say it this way,
39:24from the sidelines to complain about what is happening.
39:29But in my experience, very rarely are complainers,
39:33people actually will respond to the issue
39:35that they're complaining about.
39:37And I'm not offering this as a condemnation necessarily,
39:40as opposed to simply being an observation.
39:43but what you are prescribing is recognizing
39:48the need and responding to it.
39:51Would you just take a moment, just to speak to,
39:54because my man Will Addison often says that,
39:56man, if we prayed as much as we complained,
39:59or the church would be so powerful,
40:01would you just take a moment and speak a bit about the need?
40:04And Jesus said it this way, the harvest is plentiful,
40:06but the laborers are few.
40:08The need for people to not merely assess things
40:11in a problematic, but being willing
40:13see how God would call them to respond to what it is you're seeing.
40:17Because if you're seeing it, it's not solely for the purpose of complaining,
40:21which you speak to that for a moment.
40:22Amen.
40:24We talk about purpose a lot at hype and one of the things we talk about.
40:26It's not always, and when people are trying to find out what it is that they're,
40:30they believe that they're called to do a problem that they're meant to solve,
40:33sometimes it's not what makes you feel good or the thing that you get excited about.
40:38Sometimes hate is one of the most powerful emotions we have.
40:41And for me, I hate to see a young person and a family living below the standard that God
40:47is calling for and not compelled me to do something about it.
40:51I did not want to be one of those people who are standing on the porch, if you will, pointing
40:55the finger at this generation and saying, oh, look how they wear their pants and look what
40:59they're doing.
41:00I was compelled to do something.
41:01Now we're all called to do something in different ways and it may be getting on the front lines
41:08and getting your hands dirty and doing the work on the front lines.
41:11But you could very well be a person who sponsors.
41:13You have the money.
41:14You don't have the time, but you have the money to be able to help.
41:16Or you can be a person who refers, but I definitely think if God allows you to see it, then he's
41:21allowed you to see it for a reason so that you can do something about it.
41:27As Christians, we are called to light up the darkness.
41:30And if we see darkness, then we are obligated to walk into that space and shine a light in
41:37that dark world. And so that's what I think any person who says that they are
41:42believer in Jesus Christ that we are supposed to, we are first responders.
41:46We don't run from the darkness. We light up the darkness. And so when we see, I
41:50remember Bill Wilson came to Oral Roberts one time and he said, he saw a young man
41:55sitting outside in the freezing cold three days in a row. And he said, first day he
42:00saw it was a problem. The second day he was a little concerned, the third day he
42:03He didn't need to pray about it.
42:05He said the need was the call.
42:07When you see that, I don't need to, God has already commissioned us to do some of those
42:11things.
42:12So do what you're commissioned and the rest, God will lead us and guide us on.
42:16But yeah, we can't sit by and I heard someone say this and I'm not against missions.
42:19Actually, I'm four.
42:20I want to go on missions.
42:21But he said, or somebody told us, and or you, some people are walking over their bodies
42:27to go try to help people when they're people right in front of you who can use the work,
42:32the gift and the talent and resources that God has given.
42:35Well said, one of the things that I say often is we need to live locally.
42:39Amen.
42:40There is in this information age, it's very easy to be informed into things that are transpiring
42:47internationally.
42:48We can know about the gross domestic product in Germany, but sometimes that international
42:55information and even national information can kind of lull us into a sense of wanting to
43:00to just be informed, but the scriptures,
43:02at a certain point, say, some are ever learning,
43:04but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
43:05You know, consistently be consuming information,
43:07information, information, but never applying that information
43:10in a particular God-honoring manner.
43:12And in the course of being informed,
43:14and on this show I shared news and information,
43:16things of that nature, and I do wanna be informed as well,
43:19but we should not allow information percolating at international
43:23and at national levels to manipulate us
43:25into a comfortable negligence locally.
43:29You know, there have been things that have been happening
43:31on the national stage and then people have taken
43:33that information, then they go home and look at their neighbors
43:36with a John DeSci.
43:37It was like, well, no, the neighbor didn't do what you read
43:40on whatever website you read that on,
43:42that's not what your neighbor did, that was on their website.
43:44So what I'm saying is in this audience,
43:48I'm hoping to encourage and even to exhort and admonish
43:53our audience to live locally.
43:55Yesterday I was talking about, do you even know
43:57where your neighbors are?
43:58you know if they're believers, you know, and I know a lot of you do know that, you know,
44:03but are there any in our audience who may not even know if their neighbors are believers?
44:06Have we shown ourselves to be hospitable, you know, to our neighbors?
44:12I reflected on, and this is from Dr. Dale Tacos engagement project and he interviewed Rosario
44:19Butterfield, you know, and Rosario Butterfield previously was a woman who was a lesbian who
44:23who was an activist and was kind of like the poster child
44:27for lesbian activism as a college professor,
44:30was very articulate, very intelligent,
44:32who would write, you know,
44:33if you profoundly about her deals.
44:35And then over time she got saved and Dell Tack asked her,
44:39how did you come to faith in Christ?
44:40And she said hundreds, she said specifically,
44:43the 900 meals and she named a couple,
44:45they were a husband and wife who invited her
44:47into her home, into their home.
44:48Simply they have dinner.
44:50And through the course of having dinner,
44:52They developed a relationship, a Rosario Butterfield found these people to be trustworthy and over
44:58time in that relationship, she came to faith in Christ and she is now one of the most profound
45:04advocates for biblical sexuality and her own testimony coming out of lesbianism and she's
45:09now a wife and mother and things of that nature.
45:11But it was that relationship locally that set the foundation for her to come to faith in
45:14Christ.
45:15And I'm saying that as we're navigating things in our own lives, we have an obligation to
45:25live locally.
45:27If you have someone who would come to you, Dave, and say, man, I'm seeing some of the
45:29same things in my community, my environment that you're talking about, what might you
45:34suggest to them in order to respond, as you mentioned, to what they're seeing in their
45:39local neck of the woods?
45:40Sure.
45:41So, one, I would look to see if there's any organization that's there that's doing the work
45:45to answer those needs already.
45:48And if they are and that you want to be a part of that,
45:50then I would find a way to connect with them.
45:52If there isn't, then it's an opportunity.
45:54It's an opportunity to fill that gap.
45:57And then volunteer, get into the spaces
46:00where you see the need.
46:01And when you get into those spaces,
46:03you'll see where there are gaps.
46:04And that may be the thing that God is calling you
46:07to stand in that gap.
46:08I'll say this too, let your life be the light.
46:11know, don't, it's not about what we say. Let someone else call you the Christian and
46:16see Christ in the way that you live and the way that you treat them, not just by what
46:19you say. You talked about the transgender and homosexuality and I remember hearing somebody
46:23say, man, look what the devil did to that person. And in another person, say, behind that, if
46:29that's what the devil can do to them, then what can God do for them? Sometimes we get
46:33stuck on what we see in the negative and it looks so bad, but we serve an all powerful
46:38God. Let us never forget how powerful God we serve our resurrected, all powerful
46:43Savior. So no matter what it looks like, how much of a testimony would it be for
46:48the world to see them with all the devils attempt to try to stop them, but yet they
46:51can't stop the demoniac from getting to the feet of Jesus and him performing a
46:55miracle that everybody's seeing him and saying it was nothing but God that did
46:58that and leads people to Christ. And that's what he wants to do through us. That's
47:01what he wants to do. We try to do that through hype and allow him to do it. So
47:04So find those spaces, be the light if nothing else.
47:08Find places that are being the light and if there aren't any, you be the light.

48:15As we're seeing these things, one of the things I point out and this can be easily forgotten
48:19for Roman chapter one bears it out. First Corinthians chapter three bears it out when the scripture
48:23talks about there being perilous times in the last days. Right along with some of what
48:27What might be described as the Hollywood sins, you know, men, I mean, lovers of themselves,
48:32lovers of pleasure, heartless, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, all those things.
48:36One of the things the scriptures identified is that children would be disobedient to parents.
48:42Adolescent disobedience is not merely a product of modernity.
48:46It's evidence of spiritual deficiency that is a byproduct, frankly, of spiritual attack.
48:54My simple encouragement is for us to never accommodate, to become comfortable with something
48:59that God doesn't permit us to become comfortable with.
49:06For people to be surprised when they find obedient children, it is evidence of the seismic
49:12shifts that I am talking about.
49:14But God is not surprised about them.
49:16He so prepared himself for it that he saved you and me to be his ambassadors in this time
49:22when we are seeing all of this.
49:25We have been ordained for this moment, brothers and sisters.
49:30We must not miss our moment.
49:32By God's grace, let us continue till our King calls us home or until it returns.
