  11. 0:31Good evening, everyone.
  12. 0:34Welcome to the Hamilton Corner.

  27. 1:30We are ready to rock and roll with today's edition of the program at this very moment.
  28. 1:36Many of you, if not most of you, are making your transition from your part-time jobs where
  29. 1:40you generate an income to your full-time jobs where you cultivate an outcome.
  30. 1:45And as you do so, I want to remind you to do it with intentionality, recognizing first and
  31. 1:50foremost that the first human institution that God created was the family with marriage at
  32. 1:56the center before you ever get to modern iterations of civil government, New Testament church,
  33. 2:01orders of prophets, orders of priests, you have the family with marriage at the center.
  34. 2:06The first command that got gave to mankind was delivered to mankind within the familial
  35. 2:11context.
  36. 2:13None of that is coincidental.
  37. 2:15All of it, all of it is, or should I say all of those portions are features of God's
  38. 2:22mind and his divine ordinance for mankind.
  39. 2:25And it is a sober reminder as today, and some of you have tuned in during the news segment,
  40. 2:33that visionary family advocate, Christ follower, Dr. James Dobson passed away today. He was a
  41. 2:43pioneer for communicating God's view for the family, recognizing that the fundamental building
  42. 2:50block for any society or civilization, it is the family. That if we do not get family
  43. 2:56right. It doesn't matter what else we do. He pioneered the ministry focus on the family.
  44. 3:03Subsequent to that, he had the Dr. James Dobson, the Dobson Family Institute. He is
  45. 3:09a radio broadcast hall of famer. What some people may not recognize that he was such a
  46. 3:17visionary that he was instrumental in founding not only his own ministry, but many other
  47. 3:21ministries. For example, the Family Research Council. That was a product of Dr. Dobson's
  48. 3:27vision that God gave to him. Some people may not recognize, but as he advocated for God's
  49. 3:33view for the family within the public square, his vision also led him to be a part of founding
  50. 3:37alliance defending freedom. Because as we contend for the family and have policy shaped to support
  51. 3:44family, he had the foresight by God's divine providence and not alone. He wasn't exclusive,
  52. 3:51but he was one of the major voices that contributed to the formation of Alliance of Indian Freedom.
  53. 3:55So did Dr. So did Don Wahlman.
  54. 3:58Don Wahlman was a part of that as well,
  55. 3:59having that type of foresight.
  56. 4:04The family of God in our nation has witnessed
  57. 4:07a true, true visionary and trailblazer
  58. 4:13who's now, his faith has become sight.
  59. 4:16And he's one who I have been a beneficiary of
  60. 4:19from a distance, but also listening to his broadcasts
  61. 4:24as I'm driving around New Orleans.
  62. 4:25know he's talking about raising boys and these other things and and so he is
  63. 4:33survived by his wife of 64 years. Shirley they have two children, Danie and Ryan,
  64. 4:38but Dr. Dobson has now passed on and I'm sure that when he if he were to hear me
  65. 4:44say that our full-time jobs start in our homes and outcome cultivation is the
  66. 4:50full-time job I've ever believed her. I wouldn't certainly not want to speak
  67. 4:54for him, but I'm confident in saying he probably would have a
  68. 4:56hardy amen to that assertion.
  69. 5:02All right, if you're new to the program, I want to let you know,
  70. 5:04we begin every show here with the word of God.
  71. 5:07Simply put, it is theological malpractice to attempt to navigate
  72. 5:12the issues of the day with your Bible collecting dust.
  73. 5:16We don't want the Bible on the sidelines of life.
  74. 5:19God's word is the foundation and anchor that enables us and empowers us
  75. 5:24to do life. So we welcome the scripture to be front and center as we
  76. 5:29endeavor to navigate the issues of the day. Today we're going to begin in Matthew chapter 25,
  77. 5:34a very familiar passage of scripture. It is Matthew's recounting of the parable of the
  78. 5:40talents. And I just want to point something out from there and really challenge our audience here
  79. 5:48with God's word and really welcome the Lord to do the challenge. He's the one who
  80. 5:53who doesn't Matthew 25 verse 14, Matthew chapter 25 verse 14.
  81. 5:58And this is what God's word says for it will be.
  82. 6:01This is a parable, okay, for it will be like a man going on a journey who called his servants
  83. 6:08and entrusted to them his property to one, he gave five talents to another, to to another one,
  84. 6:17to each according to his ability, then he went away.
  85. 6:22Now, many people have heard sermons concerning the parable of the talents.
  86. 6:27We know what happened with the one who was given five talents, multiplied them to 10, the
  87. 6:32one who was given two talents, multiplied them to four, the one who had one buried it in the
  88. 6:36ground was called a wicked servant.
  89. 6:38But what I want you to focus on in this text is right at the latter part of verse 15 that
  90. 6:46In the parable, the Master gave to each servant
  91. 6:52talents according to his ability.
  92. 6:57The simple notion that I want to convey to you today
  93. 7:02is God knows your ability.
  94. 7:07God knows my ability.
  95. 7:12I want to invite you to pair this passage of scripture
  96. 7:14with Colossians chapter three,
  97. 7:16verses 24, sorry, 23 and 24.
  98. 7:22In Colossians chapter three, verse 23,
  99. 7:23it says, whatever you do, do your work
  100. 7:25hardly as for the Lord, rather than from men knowing
  101. 7:29that from the Lord, you will receive the reward
  102. 7:31of the inheritance.
  103. 7:33It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.
  104. 7:38When you pair those notions that we as Christ followers,
  105. 7:41you heard me say before that if you are an employer
  106. 7:44and he has that privilege to hire a Christ follower
  107. 7:47as an employee, that should be a day of rejoicing for that employer because you have a person
  108. 7:51whose labor is not based on any humanistic standard, but their labor is as unto the Lord.
  109. 7:58If you have a would-be employee who's looking to be hired and they find that there's an employer
  110. 8:02who is a Christian, they should rejoice having the opportunity to recognize that my employer
  111. 8:07is not going to be.
  112. 8:09Now notice I say, shoot.
  113. 8:11My employer is not going to be like any other worldly employer because my employer does their
  114. 8:17work as unto the Lord and not unto men who requires us to serve him heartily.
  115. 8:26Another way to say that, to live the lifestyle of worship, do our discharge of vocation,
  116. 8:32normalizing excellence.
  117. 8:35For the believer, excellence should be standard because we do all that we do as unto the Lord,
  118. 8:41You've heard me say worship is not an activity limited, any particular activity.
  119. 8:45Worship is a lifestyle and the pinnacle of that lifestyle is obedience.
  120. 8:49The question I want to present to you to invite you to consider
  121. 8:53and welcome the Spirit of God to enable you to navigate your own assessment
  122. 8:57is are you pouring out
  123. 9:02all that you have?
  124. 9:07Are you truly giving it your all?
  125. 9:12Or if your honest assessment would be,
  126. 9:18I'm probably functioned at 75%,
  127. 9:19but I'm not operated at 100%.
  128. 9:22Now, I'm not saying anybody needs to gas themselves out.
  129. 9:25The scripture tells us plainly,
  130. 9:26so on 127, the Lord gives his beloved sleep.
  131. 9:29This whole notion of burning the candle on both ends
  132. 9:31is an unbiblical concept.
  133. 9:32God gives his children rest.
  134. 9:33He is one who established the day of rest.
  135. 9:36That man is not made for the Sabbath,
  136. 9:38the Sabbath is made for man.
  137. 9:40So I am not asserting anything along those lines,
  138. 9:43But I am asking you and inviting you to have an honest inquiry
  139. 9:48as to whether or not you are giving it all that you have.
  140. 9:54And I wanna add this concept into it.
  141. 9:56One of the great blessings in my life that I had,
  142. 9:59I had a basketball coach,
  143. 10:00he was actually my JB coach in high school
  144. 10:02and I ended up learning later
  145. 10:04that he actually was a former Navy SEAL.
  146. 10:08But he did something for me
  147. 10:10and helping me to realize
  148. 10:11that I had more in the tank than I thought I had in the tank.
  149. 10:15Now the only way I could learn that there was more in the tank than I thought I had in
  150. 10:20the tank is that my coach drew out from me everything that I thought I had.
  151. 10:25And then at that moment, you know what happened?
  152. 10:27My coach said, Abraham, you think you pointed all out, but there is more in you.
  153. 10:33And I know there is more in you.
  154. 10:36And he began to coach that more that was in me, coaching it out of me to the point to
  155. 10:42aware, I didn't just go to what I thought I had. I always knew I learned through this process.
  156. 10:48Oh man, that's more in the tape. Now I'm communicating to you what happened with a natural relationship
  157. 10:56with a basketball coach. How much more when you read Matthew 25 when the Lord through this parable
  158. 11:03to saying he gave to each one of his servants according to his ability? See for the believer,
  159. 11:11excellence should become standardized, should become normalized.
  160. 11:19When it comes to my children, for example, God requires of me not to raise my children to the
  161. 11:29Abe standard. God calls me to raise my children to the maximum of what he put in them.
  162. 11:34So I have a dude in a responsibility to serve just as my JV coach was for me, coach Charles,
  163. 11:39shout out to coach Charles, to do what my coach did for me.
  164. 11:44I have a duty to see, oh, my little ones think that's all they have, but I see that there is more in them.
  165. 11:50And I have a duty to draw that out in them to the place where they begin to recognize,
  166. 11:58whoo, there's more in me than I thought that I had.
  167. 12:01And when you understand the reality of the parable of the talents,
  168. 12:04to the one five talents was given, that multiplied to ten,
  169. 12:07commendation from the master, the one with two talents, multiply the four,
  170. 12:11for commendation from the master.
  171. 12:14Notice that the commendation didn't say,
  172. 12:16where you with the four talents now,
  173. 12:18I'm gonna evaluate you on the 10 talent man standard.
  174. 12:21No.
  175. 12:23When we stand before the beam of seat of Christ,
  176. 12:25the judgment seat of Christ,
  177. 12:25he's not gonna evaluate us on a sliding comparative scale.
  178. 12:29He's not gonna grade us on a curve.
  179. 12:32He's gonna evaluate us knowing what he put in us,
  180. 12:36the capacity that he put in us.
  181. 12:41And evaluate whether or not we have operated
  182. 12:45Hardly as unto the Lord, knowing as the end of Colossians chapter 3 verse 24 says,
  183. 12:50it is the Lord Christ whom we serve. When you consider whether or not you are offering your all,
  184. 12:55here's an additional consideration. Is your offering an offering that is merely humanistic
  185. 13:02or is it an offering of worship? How do I show up for work? Is it merely about punctuality and
  186. 13:10in the function of the clock, punching a clock,
  187. 13:12or is it an offering of worship?
  188. 13:15How do I resolve conflict at work or at home?
  189. 13:19Is it merely us engaging in humanistic activity
  190. 13:21or is it an offering of worship?
  191. 13:26Our occupational pursuits, our vocational pursuits,
  192. 13:30is it time to step out in faith to launch that business?
  193. 13:35Whatever we do, brothers and sisters,
  194. 13:38the aroma of incense should be evident
  195. 13:41Because what we do is worship, which is why the things
  196. 13:46that we are engaged in, they are spiritual
  197. 13:49because we are engaged in them.
  198. 13:52So the question again, are you offering your all?
  199. 13:59Are you functioning according to a maximization
  200. 14:03of the capacity that God has given you?
  201. 14:05Or as a spirit of God navigates this assessment,
  202. 14:09you're able to stand and say,
  203. 14:10Mm, I see here Lord, but there's more in the tank.
  204. 14:17My encouragement to you as I encourage myself is to be poured out like a drink offering in
  205. 14:23service to the Lord's purpose so that when you stand before the judgment seat of Christ,
  206. 14:29you can honestly say, Lord, I gave you all that I am.
  207. 14:33Because as you've heard me say numerous times on this show, when you are captured by the
  208. 14:38resurrected King of glory, you move away from merely giving offerings to becoming the offering
  209. 14:46to where you live the declaration,
  210. 14:48all that I am is yours.
  211. 14:52May our King be glorified as we live as living offerings.
  212. 15:01A discipleship minute with Joseph Parker.
  213. 15:04Every disciple of Jesus Christ
  214. 15:06would be wise to strive to become a kingdom warrior.
  215. 15:10A kingdom warrior is a disciple of Christ
  216. 15:12who skillfully puts the word of God,
  217. 15:14which is the sword of the Spirit to work every day.
  218. 15:18People everywhere are facing intense spiritual warfare.
  219. 15:22We face it at home, at school, at work, everywhere.
  220. 15:27What if people say that they don't want to be involved
  221. 15:30in spiritual warfare?
  222. 15:31None of us have a choice in the matter.
  223. 15:34Like civilians who happen to live in a war-torn land,
  224. 15:37war has come to us like it or not.
  225. 15:40Since we have no choice but to face spiritual warfare
  226. 15:43in our lives, then let's face it head on.
  227. 15:47We can live like civilians and just become victims
  228. 15:49of the killing, abuse, problems, and difficulties of war.
  229. 15:54Or we can choose to become well equipped soldiers and warriors.
  230. 16:05Shiting lightning to the darkness,
  231. 16:07this is the Hamilton Corner, an American family radio.
  232. 16:11Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton,
  233. 16:13the third here, and I am honored to have in studio with me
  234. 16:17a man who is a man of God, a Christ follower,
  235. 16:21a husband, a father, my best friend from college, by the way,
  236. 16:26said that before. And we've been rocking for 27 years now.
  237. 16:30Because you're old. Good night. Executive director of
  238. 16:35harnessing youth potential and energy, a ministry to the youth
  239. 16:39in Morero, Louisiana, I said my hometown area, some call it the
  240. 16:45best bank. I don't know about that. I'm talking about none of the
  241. 16:51the my brother seated to my right. Mr. David McGee, Junior David,
  242. 16:54thank you for joining me here on the program.
  243. 16:56Thanks for having me, brother.
  244. 16:58It is truly, truly, truly my pleasure. And I because I know you,
  245. 17:02I know you were listening as we were walking through the scripture a little
  246. 17:05while ago. Yes, sir. And one of the things that that we,
  247. 17:10when we first met that we resonated with each other on was one being from
  248. 17:15Louisiana in the New Orleans area, but two being both 17 years old,
  249. 17:21and committed to following the Lord being from our hometowns.
  250. 17:24And so as you, as we walk through the description,
  251. 17:27the first segment, I'm pretty sure certain things
  252. 17:31just were stirred in your heart.
  253. 17:33And I just want to give you an opportunity to share some of that
  254. 17:35as we start the conversation we're going to have on the day show.
  255. 17:38Amen. Thanks for having me.
  256. 17:40I'm glad that I can be here and share this space with you and with your audience.
  257. 17:46But you talked about a description on Matthew 25,
  258. 17:49where you mentioned he gave in the story of the talents where he gave to each of them
  259. 17:54according to their ability. And, you know, with my organization, Hype, it's one of the
  260. 18:01things that we talk about. It's kind of like the linchpin of who we are and what we do.
  261. 18:04And what it is is when it says according to their ability, we have a poster in our building,
  262. 18:09and it says accountability. And one of the things that we communicate to every person,
  263. 18:13because we speak to young people and people from all different walks of life, different socioeconomic
  264. 18:18backgrounds, people with money, people without money. And I tell them no one is born with
  265. 18:23the empty account. Everyone is born with an ability in their account. You may not have any
  266. 18:29money, but God has placed something in you that draws the resources that you need to accomplish
  267. 18:34the purpose that God has given you on this earth. You say it in your intro, we're born
  268. 18:39for this moment. The skills, the talents, the gifts, the things that God has put us, put
  269. 18:44in us are for that moment. And so our goal is to try to figure out what is the gift and
  270. 18:51ability that God has placed in each young person, discover that ability, develop it, and how
  271. 18:57do we use that ability to share and serve, to bring the kingdom of heaven from heaven
  272. 19:03to earth. So, yeah, nobody's born bankrupt. We all have an ability and that ability has
  273. 19:08the ability to draw the resources necessary to impact the world in that dark moment.
  274. 19:14Now, if you are watching the show, there are images on the screen from hype, the ministry,
  275. 19:20the various events that they're involved in.
  276. 19:24You already alluded to it.
  277. 19:26One of the things that's mentioned on the about us page concerning hype on your website, hypenola.org,
  278. 19:33hypenola.org.
  279. 19:34or a G as you said that you're dedicated to equipping young people with support, skills
  280. 19:38and confidence they need to lead lives of purpose.
  281. 19:43Now I've just read from that on your about page.
  282. 19:46How would you describe what it is that you do at hype?
  283. 19:49Sure.
  284. 19:50So three main goals of hype is education, experience and exposure.
  285. 19:56One, educating them, teaching them something they may not know.
  286. 19:59Miles Maroese to say it all the time, our goal is to permanently damage your ignorance.
  287. 20:03when they walk out those doors, we want them to know more
  288. 20:06than they knew before they walked in
  289. 20:07and experience we want to allow them to see,
  290. 20:10touch and do things that they've never done before
  291. 20:14and exposure, introducing them the people, careers,
  292. 20:17hobby, interest and a way of life
  293. 20:19that they may not have ever been exposed to before.
  294. 20:22And so when they walk in those doors,
  295. 20:25sometimes for the first time, they've never seen somebody
  296. 20:27who has a mom, a dad, a family intact
  297. 20:31who lives a certain way, loves the Lord.
  298. 20:34And so that's our goal is to expose them.
  299. 20:36Hopefully when they walk out of that door, they're the same.
  300. 20:38We can't guarantee that they've been changed,
  301. 20:40but they've at least been exposed in the know
  302. 20:41that there is a better way, and there's a different way
  303. 20:43that exists.
  304. 20:45Now I covered on the show yesterday,
  305. 20:47a story out of Kettering, Ohio,
  306. 20:51and it follows a similar story from a portion of Pennsylvania
  307. 20:56of Pennsylvania, where you had Chick-fil-A local Chick-fil-A store owners who adopted a policy
  308. 21:03that simply disallows or the minimum discourages minors from being in the store without being
  309. 21:09accompanied by an adult.
  310. 21:13And just through a kind of a walk down memory lane, many people and our audience here saying
  311. 21:18these are things that they had not experienced in their lifetimes growing up.
  312. 21:21But we're seeing things like this happening more and more and more.
  313. 21:25Trump just led a federal basically takeover of policing in Washington, Washington, D.C.
  314. 21:31And many of the people in D.C. were saying some of frankly the criminality that was being
  315. 21:38perpetuated there where it was happening by minors largely.
  316. 21:42When you hear things like that and understanding the work and the ministry that God has called
  317. 21:47you to, what is your immediate reaction when you hear some of those things?
  318. 21:52So it's gut wrenching because, you know, these are spaces where they've, in any other space
  319. 22:01in Czech filet, they've invited young people to be able to come and hang out and be apart
  320. 22:06and not cause any disruptions.
  321. 22:08And so it makes me think about, and Ava said this before, it's often that you hear me reference
  322. 22:12my father.
  323. 22:13So this is something that you used to tell us, son, when you leave out of here, you're
  324. 22:18not just representing yourself, you're representing me,
  325. 22:22the McGee Last Name.
  326. 22:24And so when we see these young people
  327. 22:26causing disturbances in these places of business
  328. 22:32is extremely discouraging.
  329. 22:33I think it's almost a direct reflection of the family
  330. 22:38and sometimes even the community they're in.
  331. 22:40And if they are or are not involved in the church,
  332. 22:44because the family and the mom and the dad
  333. 22:47and the other parties that are involved
  334. 22:51have the responsibility of harnessing
  335. 22:54and focusing that child and their gift and their ability.
  336. 22:57And we often talk about height being the, if there's power,
  337. 23:02but if it is not harnessed or controlled, it's deadly.
  338. 23:05And so when you don't have the right parameters,
  339. 23:08barriers and guidance, then it can do a lot of damage.
  340. 23:11We witnessed that in New Orleans.
  341. 23:13Water is the thing that makes New Orleans
  342. 23:15important to the rest of the world.
  343. 23:17We are a major port in the nation.
  344. 23:20But when that water is beyond the boundary,
  345. 23:22it gets beyond the levy system
  346. 23:23that's made to protect and keep it safe.
  347. 23:26It damages, it can damage the whole city.
  348. 23:28And so I think that's kind of what we're seeing now
  349. 23:30with these young people when they're out of control.
  350. 23:31And that means some of the barriers that are in the safeguards
  351. 23:34that are supposed to be set in place aren't in place.
  352. 23:36And water finds a way, if there's a hole, it'll find it.
  353. 23:40So often I'm asked this question
  354. 23:43And what I do for a living kind of indicates my answer to it.
  355. 23:49But I get asked a question sometimes from people
  356. 23:51who are frustrated, sometimes people who have been disappointed,
  357. 23:53sometimes by people who are frankly afraid on many fronts.
  358. 23:57Are we too far gone as a society to respond
  359. 24:02to the crises that abound currently?
  360. 24:06Like when you see these things,
  361. 24:07you recognize some of the society
  362. 24:12societal deconstruction that has taken place frankly at the family level.
  363. 24:16I often say we'll never be able to out politic deficiencies that abound in the home.
  364. 24:21Right. My question is, from your vantage point, are we too far gone as a society or
  365. 24:30is there a basis to have hope to respond to the chaos we often see in various sectors of our society?
  366. 24:38So, you know, raised in church, I always think about answers in scripture.
  367. 24:42That's what leads us. And there's a description that says, hope, defer, makes the heart sick,
  368. 24:46but we don't function as believers as if there are people without hope.
  369. 24:51We serve and I'm going to say this intentionally, a resurrected savior.
  370. 24:55I remember getting to a point in my life where I was discouraged about some of the things that I
  371. 24:59was seeing and experiencing and wondering if anything can be done. And I asked God, in my own
  372. 25:04personal life, how far down are you going to let me go before you kick in and you do the supernatural
  373. 25:10thing that you do use your supernatural power. And before I could even get an answer,
  374. 25:15I heard the Holy Spirit say, well, God is able to raise the dead. And if we can, and I heard someone
  375. 25:21say this, the precursor to being a believer in Christ is believing in the death burial and the
  376. 25:28resurrection. So if that's the precursor, then believing that someone can be dead and resurrected,
  377. 25:35then anything else after that should be easy. So when I look at a situation, the Bible says,
  378. 25:40We walk by faith and not by sight.
  379. 25:42So I cannot go by what I see, I have to go by what I know in the scripture.
  380. 25:46In the scripture, I know I serve a God that is all powerful and that he's able to redeem
  381. 25:50the lost.
  382. 25:51That is what we are here for.
  383. 25:52That's what the body of Christ is for.
  384. 25:54I can't look at their situation and deem them lost.
  385. 25:57He came to seek and to save that which was lost.
  386. 26:01Now with your work with hype, I know you do work with the, and you have done work with
  387. 26:06that you have in our justice system, you do work with the public school system in the
  388. 26:11New Orleans area. Would you just share with our audience here a little bit of how you interact with
  389. 26:16those basic, those different population segments and doing what you do through hype? Sure. So,
  390. 26:24I used to work at juvenile court in my local juvenile court and drug court in particular.
  391. 26:29And so a lot of times by the time those young people would get involved in the drug court system,
  392. 26:35they're at the end of the spectrum. They're on their way possibly to going to detention.
  393. 26:40They've been on probation and diversion. And so this is sometimes the last this effort for them.
  394. 26:46And so I started hype because I saw there was a lot of young people who are getting involved in the
  395. 26:51system, but we needed to do some things on the back end or even on the front end. I'm sorry
  396. 26:56to try to prevent them from getting into this space and to save some of those who are on the
  397. 27:00the fringes. And so what we started to do and the way we reached them and it's in our wording,
  398. 27:06the word potential is the root word is potent. It means powerful. And so we want to move those
  399. 27:12young people from being possibly powerful to powerful. And the way we do that is start to
  400. 27:16find out what it is that God has placed in them, what would he created to do, what are
  401. 27:20the interests, what are the hobbies you used the word vocation earlier, that word vocation
  402. 27:23comes from literally the word call. What is the calling that's happening in your heart that
  403. 27:29God is placed there and so we start to surround them with the people, the places and the resources
  404. 27:33necessary to develop some of those callings.
  405. 27:36And we try to reach them where they are.
  406. 27:37We were talking other night and that's something else.
  407. 27:39Some of his back to basics is teaching them the one just be respectful.
  408. 27:42Yes sir, no sir, yes ma'am, no ma'am.
  409. 27:44We make the assumption that they know these things and they haven't been taught those things.
  410. 27:48To be honest with you, you grew up in New Orleans.
  411. 27:50Some of the young people that we work with are groomed to survive in a very rough environment.
  412. 27:57And so the things that we perceive to be manily
  413. 28:01are perceived to be weak in an environment that they're in.
  414. 28:04And we have to show them that they can navigate both spaces
  415. 28:07by being respectful and believe that the way
  416. 28:11that God has intended for young people to function
  417. 28:13and families to function is the correct way.
  418. 28:16And it is a way that is gonna prosper,
  419. 28:17not just the family but the community.
  420. 28:19So we have to reach them there as opposed to sometimes
  421. 28:22speaking beyond them thinking they should know
  422. 28:24these things already.
  423. 28:25How can people keep up with you in the work that you're doing through hype?
  424. 28:29How can they connect with you? Some people listening may want to support the work
  425. 28:33Financially, how can they do all of those things sure? So one of the easiest ways is to go on the website
  426. 28:39WWW dot hype no la dot org that's h y p e n o l a
  427. 28:44Org our phone number is five zero four six four one
  428. 28:48hype or
  429. 28:50or 641-4973, and we're on social media,
  430. 28:53Instagram and Facebook.
  431. 28:55But if you go on the website, there's a donate page.
  432. 28:57If you want to donate,
  433. 28:58if you want to become a mentor,
  434. 28:59you want to be a business partner,
  435. 29:00who wants to try to help us do some of the things that we do,
  436. 29:03you're welcome to do that there.
  437. 29:04We just updated our website.
  438. 29:06So when you go on that page,
  439. 29:07it'll link you to all of our social media,
  440. 29:09and you can stay up to date on the things that we're doing.
  441. 29:12Yep.
  442. 29:13Man.
  443. 29:15So would you mind sharing a little bit some of the journey
  444. 29:19that some of the children who have come through hype,
  445. 29:22the journey they've gone through,
  446. 29:23kind of where some of them might have started
  447. 29:25and where as a result of what God has done in their lives
  448. 29:28through the ministry, how they've been able to be served well
  449. 29:32through the work that you're doing through hype.
  450. 29:34Sure, two examples come to mind readily.
  451. 29:36And one of them is we had a young man,
  452. 29:40his grandmother had passed and he was living
  453. 29:41with his grandmother for whatever reason.
  454. 29:44He didn't live with his biological parents
  455. 29:46and his immediate family.
  456. 29:47And when she passed, he ended up living with the grandmother's boyfriend, who was not obligated
  457. 29:54to take care of him, but he wanted to.
  458. 29:58And he wouldn't...
  459. 29:59Let's just pause for a second on this, right?
  460. 30:01You say the grandmother's boyfriend.
  461. 30:04Boyfriend.
  462. 30:05I did say that.
  463. 30:06The grandmother's boyfriend.
  464. 30:07We firmly entered the era where...
  465. 30:10Now I know some of you listening say, wait, what?
  466. 30:13to where the whole concept of grandparents
  467. 30:15and boyfriends and girlfriends are a foreign phenomenon,
  468. 30:20but in some segments of our society,
  469. 30:23grandmother and boyfriend are just as everyday as breathing.
  470. 30:30Am I right about it?
  471. 30:31100% correct.
  472. 30:32Okay, if you want to, we can just plan a flag pull,
  473. 30:34I'll say something real quick.
  474. 30:36I've had conversations with young people.
  475. 30:37And when I say the age range that we work with
  476. 30:39is somewhere between middle school and high school,
  477. 30:41That's so that 13 to 18 will take him as young as 10.
  478. 30:45So I say that.
  479. 30:46So I'm talking to the young people day and I ask them questions
  480. 30:49like how many young people in here want to be married?
  481. 30:53None of them are boys.
  482. 30:55None of them raise their hand.
  483. 30:57When I say how many young people want to have children,
  484. 30:59all of them raise their hand.
  485. 31:01And so and I asked how many of them have been in the church
  486. 31:04lately, almost none of them have been in church lately.
  487. 31:07We've come to a space where the things that we thought
  488. 31:10were common, are no longer common.
  489. 31:13And so that's why I say we have to revisit
  490. 31:14some of the basic things of family
  491. 31:18and how to treat people you love and care about
  492. 31:21and how to answer them in a mannerly way.
  493. 31:23Just those things alone, I'll be a miracle worker.
  494. 31:25If I could teach young people how to be respectful,
  495. 31:27how to be helpful around the house and how to be clean.
  496. 31:29And that sounds simple, but it's not so simple
  497. 31:33to a person who doesn't have anybody to teach them those things.
  498. 31:35Man yesterday I was talking on the show
  499. 31:37and I started in first Chronicles 12,
  500. 31:40where the sons of Issacar are working with the tribe
  501. 31:42of Zebulun, where they understood the signs at the time
  502. 31:44and knew what was needed to be done.
  503. 31:46But then it says, and Zebulun had 50,000 troops
  504. 31:49who were gathered with singleness of purpose
  505. 31:51to support David.
  506. 31:53And I was saying that we are experiencing
  507. 31:55seismic societal shifts that are happening
  508. 31:59in a short amount of time and wondering if people
  509. 32:02are recognizing how cataclysmic many of these,
  510. 32:08not cataclysmic necessarily, but how significant, how start these shifts are.
  511. 32:13And if we're not recognizing the types of shifts that are happening,
  512. 32:16we're not going to be able to discern properly how we are to respond.
  513. 32:20And so you're referring to one of the things and, and, and again,
  514. 32:25grandparents and boyfriends and girlfriend, what, what kind of thing is it?
  515. 32:28But this in some portions of our society, this is normal.
  516. 32:32When we come back from the break, cause you could probably hear the disrespectful music as well as I can hear it.
  517. 32:36I want to have a conversation about that, recognizing the changes.
  518. 32:40While we know this is the standard that God's Word has articulated.
  519. 32:44How do we hold fast at that standard while being effective ambassadors of Christ within
  520. 32:49the context that we are in current?
  521. 32:52That's what we'll get to when we come back from the breaks.
  522. 32:53Stay tuned to the Hamilton Corner.

  541. 34:15Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton the third here.
  542. 34:18My guest is David McGee, Jr. Executive Director of Harness and Use Potential Energy, also known
  543. 34:25as Hype, based in Morero, Louisiana on the West Bank, right outside of New Orleans, Louisiana,
  544. 34:30my hometown day before we went to the break,
  545. 34:34you were sharing a story that I invited you to share
  546. 34:37based on some of the really successes
  547. 34:41that God has brought forth through the ministry
  548. 34:43that you're engaged in there.
  549. 34:45And you were talking about a young man
  550. 34:47whose grandmother had a boyfriend.
  551. 34:48I want you to invite you to finish that story.
  552. 34:51Sure, so his grandmother passed
  553. 34:53and his grandmother was the one who was helping to raise him.
  554. 34:56And when she passed,
  555. 34:58He stayed with the grandmother's boyfriend,
  556. 35:01who was not related to him,
  557. 35:03but he decided to try to help him out.
  558. 35:05And so the young man went into...
  559. 35:06The boyfriend decided to help the...
  560. 35:07Yes. Yes.
  561. 35:08And he decided to, but he started to go into,
  562. 35:11like I say, the depression.
  563. 35:12He literally would go in his room.
  564. 35:13He would not come out.
  565. 35:14And this was, and he stopped going to school.
  566. 35:17This was for about two years.
  567. 35:19He did not go to school.
  568. 35:19He missed two years of school,
  569. 35:21and he was somewhere around a freshman at the time.
  570. 35:23Freshmen are a sophomore in high school.
  571. 35:26And so in a desperation and a desperate effort,
  572. 35:31he got in contact with someone who gave him our number
  573. 35:33and he came out and brought him to a hype session.
  574. 35:37And long story short, we kind of pushed him a little,
  575. 35:40held him accountable to the ability that was in him.
  576. 35:43He called him his grandfather,
  577. 35:45but it was his grandma's boyfriend.
  578. 35:48So his grandfather, as he called him,
  579. 35:50took him and we gave him some advice
  580. 35:53to start pushing him and holding him accountable
  581. 35:55some of these areas and not allow him to go into depression.
  582. 35:57And we started walking through that with him.
  583. 35:59He did not like what we did, but it helped him out.
  584. 36:04And he eventually made up the two years in school.
  585. 36:07We sent him to an alternative school.
  586. 36:09At the time I was on the board of the school,
  587. 36:11and he became one of the fastest students
  588. 36:16to accumulate credits in the school
  589. 36:19because he can work at his own pace.
  590. 36:21And within a year and a half, he was graduating.
  591. 36:24and he graduated in his class and came out of his shell
  592. 36:28and became a pretty good young man
  593. 36:32and became very, very grateful for that experience.
  594. 36:35And so that's one of many opportunities
  595. 36:39that we've had to work with young people,
  596. 36:40but one of the things that you hit at,
  597. 36:42and we work with the young people,
  598. 36:44but a lot of the heavy lifting has to be done
  599. 36:46with the parents and the guardians
  600. 36:48because we only see them for so long.
  601. 36:49So we have to equip the family to be able to sustain
  602. 36:53the trajectory without us being involved as much.
  603. 36:57Mm, would you share if you can a bit of how you've been able
  604. 37:01to do that to date when you describe,
  605. 37:05you have the kind of immediate intervention,
  606. 37:07almost like a triage with the youth,
  607. 37:10but also in developing the family into that process
  608. 37:16so that they can sustain outside of the formative
  609. 37:21and informal hype sessions that you guys have,
  610. 37:23would you share a little bit of an experience in that regard?
  611. 37:26Sure, so listen,
  612. 37:28Biblically, you hinted at this earlier in your commentary
  613. 37:30and speaking of scripture,
  614. 37:33the family is the cornerstone of the community.
  615. 37:35It is the beginning of creation
  616. 37:36how God set up the way we are supposed to answer
  617. 37:38even interact with Him.
  618. 37:40And so what we recognize early on is when we work
  619. 37:42with young people, we only have them for so long.
  620. 37:45But if we can get the family setting set up
  621. 37:48the way God intended it to be,
  622. 37:50we can have a greater impact.
  623. 37:51So we started to not just work with the young people,
  624. 37:53but we started to have parent meetings.
  625. 37:55And we started to, in particular before COVID,
  626. 37:57we wanted to have them at least four times in a year.
  627. 38:00And outside of those parent meetings,
  628. 38:02where we would equip them with the tools, the skills,
  629. 38:05the knowledge that they need to be able to function
  630. 38:09on their own, we started to have individual meetings
  631. 38:12with them and their families together outside
  632. 38:15of just the meetings that we had with their young person.
  633. 38:17And if that meant going to their home, talking to them about
  634. 38:22some of the approach that they had.
  635. 38:24And like I said before, there are a lot of things that
  636. 38:27when you grow up in a two-parent household,
  637. 38:29in a household as godly and has a good foundation,
  638. 38:31there are a lot of assumptions that are made.
  639. 38:32And when you walk into some of these homes,
  640. 38:34these families don't have the tools.
  641. 38:36We say something simple, like behavior
  642. 38:38that is rewarded is often repeated.
  643. 38:40And so we have young people who will get arrested
  644. 38:41and go to what we call a rivard,
  645. 38:43it's like juvenile detention.
  646. 38:44And when they walk out,
  647. 38:46their parents, mom in particular would buy them
  648. 38:48the newest lady, the Nike's.
  649. 38:51And the child goes, oh, I can get in trouble and still.
  650. 38:53And so when we start to show parents,
  651. 38:55you're rewarding him for bad behavior.
  652. 38:57And that sounds like oversimplification,
  653. 38:59but it is an illustration of some of the things
  654. 39:03that parents didn't even realize
  655. 39:04that they were doing by perpetuating the same behavior.
  656. 39:07So we try to have instances where we shine a light
  657. 39:10on some of those things and they have those aha moments.
  658. 39:12And ultimately, giving them the blueprint
  659. 39:15for what God intended the family to look like.
  660. 39:18In many instances, you have lots of people
  661. 39:20who are willing to stand on or say it this way,
  662. 39:24from the sidelines to complain about what is happening.
  663. 39:29But in my experience, very rarely are complainers,
  664. 39:33people actually will respond to the issue
  665. 39:35that they're complaining about.
  666. 39:37And I'm not offering this as a condemnation necessarily,
  667. 39:40as opposed to simply being an observation.
  668. 39:43but what you are prescribing is recognizing
  669. 39:48the need and responding to it.
  670. 39:51Would you just take a moment, just to speak to,
  671. 39:54because my man Will Addison often says that,
  672. 39:56man, if we prayed as much as we complained,
  673. 39:59or the church would be so powerful,
  674. 40:01would you just take a moment and speak a bit about the need?
  675. 40:04And Jesus said it this way, the harvest is plentiful,
  676. 40:06but the laborers are few.
  677. 40:08The need for people to not merely assess things
  678. 40:11in a problematic, but being willing
  679. 40:13see how God would call them to respond to what it is you're seeing.
  680. 40:17Because if you're seeing it, it's not solely for the purpose of complaining,
  681. 40:21which you speak to that for a moment.
  682. 40:22Amen.
  683. 40:24We talk about purpose a lot at hype and one of the things we talk about.
  684. 40:26It's not always, and when people are trying to find out what it is that they're,
  685. 40:30they believe that they're called to do a problem that they're meant to solve,
  686. 40:33sometimes it's not what makes you feel good or the thing that you get excited about.
  687. 40:38Sometimes hate is one of the most powerful emotions we have.
  688. 40:41And for me, I hate to see a young person and a family living below the standard that God
  689. 40:47is calling for and not compelled me to do something about it.
  690. 40:51I did not want to be one of those people who are standing on the porch, if you will, pointing
  691. 40:55the finger at this generation and saying, oh, look how they wear their pants and look what
  692. 40:59they're doing.
  693. 41:00I was compelled to do something.
  694. 41:01Now we're all called to do something in different ways and it may be getting on the front lines
  695. 41:08and getting your hands dirty and doing the work on the front lines.
  696. 41:11But you could very well be a person who sponsors.
  697. 41:13You have the money.
  698. 41:14You don't have the time, but you have the money to be able to help.
  699. 41:16Or you can be a person who refers, but I definitely think if God allows you to see it, then he's
  700. 41:21allowed you to see it for a reason so that you can do something about it.
  701. 41:27As Christians, we are called to light up the darkness.
  702. 41:30And if we see darkness, then we are obligated to walk into that space and shine a light in
  703. 41:37that dark world. And so that's what I think any person who says that they are
  704. 41:42believer in Jesus Christ that we are supposed to, we are first responders.
  705. 41:46We don't run from the darkness. We light up the darkness. And so when we see, I
  706. 41:50remember Bill Wilson came to Oral Roberts one time and he said, he saw a young man
  707. 41:55sitting outside in the freezing cold three days in a row. And he said, first day he
  708. 42:00saw it was a problem. The second day he was a little concerned, the third day he
  709. 42:03He didn't need to pray about it.
  710. 42:05He said the need was the call.
  711. 42:07When you see that, I don't need to, God has already commissioned us to do some of those
  712. 42:11things.
  713. 42:12So do what you're commissioned and the rest, God will lead us and guide us on.
  714. 42:16But yeah, we can't sit by and I heard someone say this and I'm not against missions.
  715. 42:19Actually, I'm four.
  716. 42:20I want to go on missions.
  717. 42:21But he said, or somebody told us, and or you, some people are walking over their bodies
  718. 42:27to go try to help people when they're people right in front of you who can use the work,
  719. 42:32the gift and the talent and resources that God has given.
  720. 42:35Well said, one of the things that I say often is we need to live locally.
  721. 42:39Amen.
  722. 42:40There is in this information age, it's very easy to be informed into things that are transpiring
  723. 42:47internationally.
  724. 42:48We can know about the gross domestic product in Germany, but sometimes that international
  725. 42:55information and even national information can kind of lull us into a sense of wanting to
  726. 43:00to just be informed, but the scriptures,
  727. 43:02at a certain point, say, some are ever learning,
  728. 43:04but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.
  729. 43:05You know, consistently be consuming information,
  730. 43:07information, information, but never applying that information
  731. 43:10in a particular God-honoring manner.
  732. 43:12And in the course of being informed,
  733. 43:14and on this show I shared news and information,
  734. 43:16things of that nature, and I do wanna be informed as well,
  735. 43:19but we should not allow information percolating at international
  736. 43:23and at national levels to manipulate us
  737. 43:25into a comfortable negligence locally.
  738. 43:29You know, there have been things that have been happening
  739. 43:31on the national stage and then people have taken
  740. 43:33that information, then they go home and look at their neighbors
  741. 43:36with a John DeSci.
  742. 43:37It was like, well, no, the neighbor didn't do what you read
  743. 43:40on whatever website you read that on,
  744. 43:42that's not what your neighbor did, that was on their website.
  745. 43:44So what I'm saying is in this audience,
  746. 43:48I'm hoping to encourage and even to exhort and admonish
  747. 43:53our audience to live locally.
  748. 43:55Yesterday I was talking about, do you even know
  749. 43:57where your neighbors are?
  750. 43:58you know if they're believers, you know, and I know a lot of you do know that, you know,
  751. 44:03but are there any in our audience who may not even know if their neighbors are believers?
  752. 44:06Have we shown ourselves to be hospitable, you know, to our neighbors?
  753. 44:12I reflected on, and this is from Dr. Dale Tacos engagement project and he interviewed Rosario
  754. 44:19Butterfield, you know, and Rosario Butterfield previously was a woman who was a lesbian who
  755. 44:23who was an activist and was kind of like the poster child
  756. 44:27for lesbian activism as a college professor,
  757. 44:30was very articulate, very intelligent,
  758. 44:32who would write, you know,
  759. 44:33if you profoundly about her deals.
  760. 44:35And then over time she got saved and Dell Tack asked her,
  761. 44:39how did you come to faith in Christ?
  762. 44:40And she said hundreds, she said specifically,
  763. 44:43the 900 meals and she named a couple,
  764. 44:45they were a husband and wife who invited her
  765. 44:47into her home, into their home.
  766. 44:48Simply they have dinner.
  767. 44:50And through the course of having dinner,
  768. 44:52They developed a relationship, a Rosario Butterfield found these people to be trustworthy and over
  769. 44:58time in that relationship, she came to faith in Christ and she is now one of the most profound
  770. 45:04advocates for biblical sexuality and her own testimony coming out of lesbianism and she's
  771. 45:09now a wife and mother and things of that nature.
  772. 45:11But it was that relationship locally that set the foundation for her to come to faith in
  773. 45:14Christ.
  774. 45:15And I'm saying that as we're navigating things in our own lives, we have an obligation to
  775. 45:25live locally.
  776. 45:27If you have someone who would come to you, Dave, and say, man, I'm seeing some of the
  777. 45:29same things in my community, my environment that you're talking about, what might you
  778. 45:34suggest to them in order to respond, as you mentioned, to what they're seeing in their
  779. 45:39local neck of the woods?
  780. 45:40Sure.
  781. 45:41So, one, I would look to see if there's any organization that's there that's doing the work
  782. 45:45to answer those needs already.
  783. 45:48And if they are and that you want to be a part of that,
  784. 45:50then I would find a way to connect with them.
  785. 45:52If there isn't, then it's an opportunity.
  786. 45:54It's an opportunity to fill that gap.
  787. 45:57And then volunteer, get into the spaces
  788. 46:00where you see the need.
  789. 46:01And when you get into those spaces,
  790. 46:03you'll see where there are gaps.
  791. 46:04And that may be the thing that God is calling you
  792. 46:07to stand in that gap.
  793. 46:08I'll say this too, let your life be the light.
  794. 46:11know, don't, it's not about what we say. Let someone else call you the Christian and
  795. 46:16see Christ in the way that you live and the way that you treat them, not just by what
  796. 46:19you say. You talked about the transgender and homosexuality and I remember hearing somebody
  797. 46:23say, man, look what the devil did to that person. And in another person, say, behind that, if
  798. 46:29that's what the devil can do to them, then what can God do for them? Sometimes we get
  799. 46:33stuck on what we see in the negative and it looks so bad, but we serve an all powerful
  800. 46:38God. Let us never forget how powerful God we serve our resurrected, all powerful
  801. 46:43Savior. So no matter what it looks like, how much of a testimony would it be for
  802. 46:48the world to see them with all the devils attempt to try to stop them, but yet they
  803. 46:51can't stop the demoniac from getting to the feet of Jesus and him performing a
  804. 46:55miracle that everybody's seeing him and saying it was nothing but God that did
  805. 46:58that and leads people to Christ. And that's what he wants to do through us. That's
  806. 47:01what he wants to do. We try to do that through hype and allow him to do it. So
  807. 47:04So find those spaces, be the light if nothing else.
  808. 47:08Find places that are being the light and if there aren't any, you be the light.
  809. 47:11I want to invite you again just to share how people can connect with you.
  810. 47:15I'm seeing messages coming in.
  811. 47:16What's the website again for hype?
  812. 47:19Would you just share that again for those who may not have heard it the first time and
  813. 47:22for those who may have heard it was like, would you say it one more time just so we can have
  814. 47:25it?
  815. 47:26Would you share how people can connect with you and hype?
  816. 47:28Yes.
  817. 47:30The website is www.hipenola.org.
  818. 47:33That's H-Y-P-E-N-O-L-A.org.
  819. 47:37Nola stands for New Orleans for those people who don't know.
  820. 47:40The phone number is 504-64-14973.
  821. 47:44And you can connect with us on there.
  822. 47:46My email address is dmagieathipenola.org.
  823. 47:50Reach out to us.
  824. 47:51Let's connect.
  825. 47:52Let's see how we can do more work together.
  826. 47:54And we are on the West Bank, right outside of New Orleans.
  827. 47:56It is the best bank.
  828. 47:58objection. Excuse wouldn't expect you to offer such an unfounded perspective. Call me off
  829. 48:06guard with that one but we'll let it ride. I was just kidding. Man it is vitally important.
  830. 48:15As we're seeing these things, one of the things I point out and this can be easily forgotten
  831. 48:19for Roman chapter one bears it out. First Corinthians chapter three bears it out when the scripture
  832. 48:23talks about there being perilous times in the last days. Right along with some of what
  833. 48:27What might be described as the Hollywood sins, you know, men, I mean, lovers of themselves,
  834. 48:32lovers of pleasure, heartless, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, all those things.
  835. 48:36One of the things the scriptures identified is that children would be disobedient to parents.
  836. 48:42Adolescent disobedience is not merely a product of modernity.
  837. 48:46It's evidence of spiritual deficiency that is a byproduct, frankly, of spiritual attack.
  838. 48:54My simple encouragement is for us to never accommodate, to become comfortable with something
  839. 48:59that God doesn't permit us to become comfortable with.
  840. 49:06For people to be surprised when they find obedient children, it is evidence of the seismic
  841. 49:12shifts that I am talking about.
  842. 49:14But God is not surprised about them.
  843. 49:16He so prepared himself for it that he saved you and me to be his ambassadors in this time
  844. 49:22when we are seeing all of this.
  845. 49:25We have been ordained for this moment, brothers and sisters.
  846. 49:30We must not miss our moment.
  847. 49:32By God's grace, let us continue till our King calls us home or until it returns.
  848. 49:37Y'all up.
