  9. 0:30Let's not miss our moment.
  10. 0:32and now the Hamilton Corner.
  11. 0:37Good evening, everyone.
  12. 0:39Welcome to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton.
  13. 0:41The third is my name, joined.
  14. 0:44I'm the host of the program, joined by the Corner Contingent,
  15. 0:48tried to cross from me, my man 100 grand.
  16. 0:51Excuse me.
  17. 0:53Mr. Bobby.
  18. 0:54R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-R-O-SA,
  19. 0:56and the screening, reproduced extraordinary, often imitated,
  20. 1:00never duplicated as to real.
  21. 1:02Jay Mac, ladies and gentlemen, that is one Jeff McIntosh.
  22. 1:06And we have the elegant and the graceful Kennedy Green
  23. 1:11as well in the screening room.
  24. 1:12And we are ready to rock and roll with today's edition
  25. 1:16of the program at this very moment.
  26. 1:18Many of you, if not most of you, are making your transition
  27. 1:22from your part-time jobs where you generate an income
  28. 1:25to your full-time jobs where you cultivate an outcome.
  29. 1:28And as you do so, I want to remind you to do so
  30. 1:31with intentionality, understanding the primacy that God places on family and welcoming his
  31. 1:40primacy to guide, to govern and to guard your engagement in your families. This is, this
  32. 1:47encouragement is pertinent today as you'll see as we go through today's program. As always,
  33. 1:56going to start in God's holy word, but we're going to delve into a topic that many professionals,
  34. 2:05mental health professionals are describing as a silent epidemic.
  35. 2:10And it is the phenomenon that is described as voluntary familial estrangement or estrangement,
  36. 2:18depending on who you're talking to, they may use more or less descriptors before they
  37. 2:22get to determine estrangement.
  38. 2:25But as we go through, you'll see this is something that is cutting directly against what God has
  39. 2:33ordained for families to be.
  40. 2:36So when I say God's word should guide and govern and guard our engagement, that includes the
  41. 2:48early formative years.
  42. 2:50If you are in a life stage as I am with young children in my home, my wife and I, all the
  43. 2:55way through to ladder stages when the scripture says and the Lord commands us to honor your
  44. 3:01father and mother, that is not something that says honor your father and mother while you're
  45. 3:06an adolescent or while you're a teenager.
  46. 3:10But this is a command that is a continuing command and contrary to the world, now let me
  47. 3:15say something before I can continue on that, it doesn't express the state how you are to
  48. 3:19do so but the honoring is a heart disposition, is a condition of the heart that will ultimately
  49. 3:24impact conduct and engagement and there is a concerted effort that frankly I believe it
  50. 3:38is demonic and it's Genesis that is tearing at families and tearing relationships apart
  51. 3:47and we're going to get into it a bit during today's program.
  52. 3:53So if you are listening to this program, certainly this is one you're going to want to share.
  53. 3:58But I encourage you to listen up because we want to examine the facts, a bit of the data,
  54. 4:03but most importantly, what does God's Word say and how should we engage thereafter?
  55. 4:09So as you are making your transition to your full-time jobs, let's be intentional about
  56. 4:15it.
  57. 4:16It's a deception to think that nothing is going on and oh, well, it's not that big of a deal
  58. 4:23and we just drift forward and allow ourselves to inhale and exhale the next
  59. 4:28year, you know, 10, 20 years have passed by.
  60. 4:31And we don't recognize what may or may not have transpired.
  61. 4:39This is also a day and we may get into this a bit more.
  62. 4:42I'm sure most of you know by now that Senator Lindsey Graham passed away over
  63. 4:46the weekend and the governor of South Carolina has now named his sister,
  64. 4:52which Lindsey Graham as a young man in his early 20s,
  65. 4:56adopted as a result of their parents having passed away
  66. 5:03earlier in their lives.
  67. 5:08So that is, it's never an easy thing
  68. 5:16when you have that kind of,
  69. 5:17when you have, when there's loss that takes place,
  70. 5:19and how that impacts others.
  71. 5:22And I'm not planning to get into this now,
  72. 5:27But it's grieving and sad to me to see just how much our capacity for humanity seems to
  73. 5:40have been degraded in our society to where people's sickness permeates even through times
  74. 5:47of mourning.
  75. 5:48And it's just, pardon me, maybe I'm old school, I'm not told you've always been told
  76. 5:53I haven't old soul, but I'm from the block where my parents taught me, even if we don't
  77. 5:59person, you see a funeral possession going on and you pull over on the side of the road
  78. 6:03and you
  79. 6:05are out of the fact that this is a fellow bearer of God's image
  80. 6:09who has made the
  81. 6:11inescapable transition, the inescapable transition.
  82. 6:18It's appointed unto man once to die and then the judgment.
  83. 6:22That's a sobering thing in my estimation.
  84. 6:27Because there's no there's no do-overs, no back-seas.
  85. 6:30That's it.
  86. 6:33So the word of God we go, Proverbs, chapter one is where we want to begin the program.
  87. 6:36Proverbs, chapter one, verses eight through 16 is where I want to begin.
  88. 6:40Proverbs, chapter one, just jump right into it for the sake of time.
  89. 6:49The book of Proverbs is wisdom literature.
  90. 6:50In chapter one verse eight reads like this, here, my son, your father's instruction.
  91. 6:58And for sake not your mother's teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and
  92. 7:03dependence for your neck. My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. If they say, come
  93. 7:11with us, let us lie and wait for blood, let us ambush the innocent without reason. Like
  94. 7:19she'll let us swallow them alive and whole, like those who go down to the pit. We shall
  95. 7:25find all precious goods, we shall fill our houses with plunder. Throw in your lot among
  96. 7:30us. We will have one purse. My son do not walk in the way with them. Hold back your foot from
  97. 7:38their past for their feet run to evil and they make haste to shed blood." The verses that we just
  98. 7:49read from chapter one of the book of Proverbs in vision, the council provided to a son by a father
  99. 7:56and a mother. My son here, give heed, listen, receive, take seriously, ingest, focus your heart
  100. 8:07and mind to your father's instruction. My son, do not forsake your mother's teaching.
  101. 8:15It presents a picture of a father and mother jointly engaged and cultivating the heart and mind
  102. 8:23of a young man, of a son, who will be reared in an environment of wisdom.
  103. 8:30One of the major features of this environment of wisdom and what is
  104. 8:36communicated is in these verses 12 all the way to verse 16.
  105. 8:42It's in order for the son to have the benefit of being cultivated in an
  106. 8:48environment of wisdom. One of the first characteristics that the son will
  107. 8:51develop is a refusal to follow the crowd, is a refusal to be men pleasers. And when you look at
  108. 9:00those two qualities, guys, they are intrinsic to being disciples of Jesus Christ. There is no way
  109. 9:08we can be disciples of our Lord, and while at the exact same time, we are crowd followers. I've said
  110. 9:16time and time again on the program, the call to be a Christ follower, a call to be a disciple,
  111. 9:21is a call to live the narrow road. We don't visit the narrow road. That's where we live.
  112. 9:27That's where we live. We recognize the wisdom of our Lord's instruction when it says broad is the
  113. 9:32road to damnation. Narrow is the way for the redeemed, for the peculiar. You cannot be a narrow
  114. 9:41road warrior and be a man pleaser and be a man pleaser. Cannot do it. Cannot do it. Contrary to
  115. 9:59popular practice in our society. I've said this as well on the show.
  116. 10:02By God's divine providence and sovereign grace, He's made me my children's father.
  117. 10:07I will be my children's father for the rest of my life, Lord willing, and the rest of their lives.
  118. 10:13Our relationship dynamics will change, no doubt about it.
  119. 10:18But when my children hit, there's nothing magical about my children turning the age of 18.
  120. 10:23Then now all of a sudden, my care and concern for them has adjusted.
  121. 10:27No, no, that hasn't changed at all.
  122. 10:29Though they may be of the legal age of majority in our country, I'm still my children's father.
  123. 10:36And my children will always be my children.
  124. 10:39Even as they grow and mature.
  125. 10:42And even when Lord willing, and this is something my wife and I are looking forward to when we
  126. 10:45hit the grandparents stage, I ain't been there but I heard a show is good.
  127. 10:51Heard about it.
  128. 10:54But our society works over time just to cut right to the chase to eviscerate familial bonds,
  129. 11:01generally speaking.
  130. 11:03I've explained before how one of the major thesis from Karl Marx's communist manifesto,
  131. 11:09he and Frederick Ingalls, was to create this notion of children of the state.
  132. 11:13The way to do that is that you sever the parent child relationship at the earliest stage
  133. 11:17as possible.
  134. 11:21Then we're going to dig into it a little bit and I'm not trying to shade anybody, condemn
  135. 11:26anybody.
  136. 11:27I know there are variables that affect everybody's lives and families differently.
  137. 11:31I alluded to this once.
  138. 11:34I'm not going to go into any detail here.
  139. 11:35I'm in a life stage in addition to having young children that I'm caring for my parents
  140. 11:39as well, my parents.
  141. 11:42My parents, and not to be surprised, the word of God has something specific to say about
  142. 11:50that.
  143. 11:53But there's a phenomenon that's ascended to it largely in our society.
  144. 11:58We have adult children who will kind of stick their parents in a home somewhere and really
  145. 12:04live as if they don't remember them or they're not aware of them, but I don't have any concern
  146. 12:10for them.
  147. 12:11And like I said, I understand their life circumstances, their realities,
  148. 12:15they're all kind of variables that contribute to that, but I will simply add this encouragement.
  149. 12:19Have we considered what the word of God says how responsibilities may be?
  150. 12:28And there are continual efforts, and I've already mentioned it, I'm going to dig into it
  151. 12:33when we start this next segment, but there's a phenomenon now of familial astrangement
  152. 12:38to where you have adult children who are severing relationship and contact with their parents.
  153. 12:47I said it's a silent epidemic because there are lots of factors that contribute, but there's lots of shame and pain related to it.
  154. 12:58And you have people that don't know what to do.
  155. 13:00Oftentimes the instances occur with no warning.
  156. 13:05You know, all of a sudden I was talking to my daughter the other day, and now there's no contact.
  157. 13:11there's no contact.
  158. 13:14And then to add insult to injury, if you will,
  159. 13:17there is kind of an online phenomenon
  160. 13:23to where the quote unquote, going no contact
  161. 13:27is affirmed as an expression of personal growth.
  162. 13:31Yes, yes, if you have the wherewithal,
  163. 13:34if you implement a no contact with your toxic parents,
  164. 13:39then that is a sign that you are growing,
  165. 13:41you see, because you are committed
  166. 13:43to protecting your peace and your mental health.
  167. 13:45And I'm just like, once again, I understand
  168. 13:50that some circumstances where there's history
  169. 13:52of maybe physical abuse or, you know,
  170. 13:56chemical dependencies and things of that nature,
  171. 13:59you know, I grew up, I know what it's like to see,
  172. 14:04you know, drug addicts walking up and down the street
  173. 14:06at high rates of speed at the time
  174. 14:09where people should be asleep, you know?
  175. 14:13So I know there's some reality there,
  176. 14:15but what you're going to find is that this,
  177. 14:17when I'm going to share with you that as this is a relatively new phenomenon,
  178. 14:22the studies show that there was a pretty significant spike in this area,
  179. 14:29starting at about 2016.
  180. 14:31Hmm. 2015, 2016.
  181. 14:34I wonder what happened in 2015, 2016.
  182. 14:36Anybody want to fancy a guess?
  183. 14:45We're going to get into it.
  184. 14:47But what you see already, I hope you see,
  185. 14:50is that this notion of voluntary family estrangement
  186. 14:53looks a whole lot different than,
  187. 14:56here, my son, your father's instruction,
  188. 14:58and for a sake knock, your mother's teaching.
  189. 15:01Let's get into it.
  190. 15:09A discipleship minute with Joseph Parker.
  191. 15:11The Word of God is the sword of the Spirit,
  192. 15:13according to Ephesians 6 17.
  193. 15:16Every disciple of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,
  194. 15:18needs to be a diligent student of the Word of God.
  195. 15:21We would be wise to continually learn more about the spiritual weapons
  196. 15:25found in the Word of God, we must continually learn more about how to do battle with every
  197. 15:29spiritual weapon.
  198. 15:30Because spiritual conflict is not something we deal with from only time to time.
  199. 15:34We encounter spiritual warfare every day and everywhere we go.
  200. 15:38When we put these spiritual weapons to work, we're building up the kingdom of God.
  201. 15:44Also, as we use these weapons, we're doing battle against the kingdom of darkness.
  202. 15:50Some people may think, I don't like the idea of having to deal with spiritual warfare.
  203. 15:53Well, like it or not, we face it every day of our lives.
  204. 15:56Let's be faithful to be kingdom warriors who know how to take some of the weapons we have
  205. 16:01in the Word of God and use them to walk in victory daily.
  206. 16:12Shiving lightning to the darkness, this is the Hamilton Corner, an American family radio.
  207. 16:19Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton the third here.
  208. 16:23I've already alluded to what I'm going to be talking about.
  209. 16:27I guess I should mention we're looking forward to this upcoming week.
  210. 16:33We'll be doing several programs from the arc where we'll be participating in the
  211. 16:39Culture Proof 2026 Conference.
  212. 16:41Looking forward to that.
  213. 16:43We'll be there later this week.
  214. 16:45It's going to be an amazing time there.
  215. 16:47Hope you guys tune in.
  216. 16:49We have several programs lined up.
  217. 16:52And look, I'm not going to give it away.
  218. 16:55I just think you probably want to tune in.
  219. 16:58But I've already kind of set up the conversation I want to have today because this is something
  220. 17:03that I've been reading on. I've had conversations with people anecdotally. And I've found that this
  221. 17:12was not happening in a vacuum, but this is something that is happening all around the country,
  222. 17:19yet there are not as many public conversations about it. And my hope is through is that as a
  223. 17:27result of bringing this issue into the light and we are able to examine it in light of the
  224. 17:33truth of God's word that it will provide some comfort and some consolation for those who are
  225. 17:41struggling in these areas because as the phenomenon is occurring and as has been described,
  226. 17:49a military familial, voluntary familial astrangement.
  227. 17:53Frankly, it's given cause for the enemy
  228. 17:56to wreak havoc in families, man.
  229. 18:00Families are being torn apart by this.
  230. 18:03And the data, it's something that has not been chronicled
  231. 18:08as ubiquitously as I believe it will be as the years continue.
  232. 18:15But in the bit of data that's available currently,
  233. 18:19most of it points to now this is I'm saying most not all most of it points to a precipitous uptick in this
  234. 18:26self-described voluntary estrangement
  235. 18:29Well, not self-described this described voluntary estrangement at about 2016 and you'll recall in 2016
  236. 18:37That was when president Trump
  237. 18:40much to the shock of those in New York that he
  238. 18:46He sent she who shall never be president packing.
  239. 18:51Many have said, including, let me be clear, he's the most qualified candidate to run for
  240. 18:57the presidency.
  241. 18:58But the American people said, not so fast, my friend.
  242. 19:02Well, that tends to be the date where there's been a precipitous uptick in familial estrangement.
  243. 19:09And like I said, there are circumstances where there's abuse, physical abuse, sometimes sexual
  244. 19:14abuse.
  245. 19:15all kinds of variables that have impacted it, but what's happening
  246. 19:192016 going forward is something that's relatively new in our national history
  247. 19:23to where people are citing political disagreements and
  248. 19:28religious disagreements as a basis for this and increasing numbers.
  249. 19:34So let me give you a little bit of the data across the spectrum.
  250. 19:39There's data in this publication called Psychology Today.
  251. 19:45There's data from London, Europe, it's happening pretty much in the West that shows about 27%
  252. 19:57of adults, younger adults have completely severed contact with relationship and severed contact
  253. 20:10from their parents.
  254. 20:12In some instances, this contact is not perpetual and many of them, they are perpetual.
  255. 20:19Others are likely, more likely than mothers to suffer this
  256. 20:25estrangement.
  257. 20:26And when there are circumstances when mothers are estranged from
  258. 20:30their children, often there is a re-establishment of relationship.
  259. 20:35One of the professionals who have done a bit of study in this
  260. 20:41area is Dr. Joshua Coleman.
  261. 20:43And he's a psychologist and he was written a book addressing
  262. 20:47this phenomenon in a book titled When Parents Hurt.
  263. 20:52He's also written a book titled Rules of Engagement.
  264. 20:55I want to give you a sense of what I'm talking about
  265. 20:57when I describe voluntary familial estrangement.
  266. 21:00Here, this brief clip from Dr. Joshua Coleman,
  267. 21:04it's clip number seven, clip seven, go.
  268. 21:07Well, from my perspective, I think
  269. 21:10it's a kind of silent epidemic.
  270. 21:12In there was a study recently done
  271. 21:14that show that one out of four fathers is estranged
  272. 21:17from an adult child, they're 22%,
  273. 21:20even more likely to be estranged from a daughter.
  274. 21:24That same studies found 6% of mothers are estranged from a child,
  275. 21:28but other studies have put it closer to 10 to 15%,
  276. 21:31which is where I would put it.
  277. 21:33So a lot of parents are being estranged today.
  278. 21:36And they're also being estranged for reasons
  279. 21:38that weren't really in existence in the past.
  280. 21:42So certainly weren't common political differences, particularly in the United States.
  281. 21:49Whereas the glue that kept families together through millennia on a by mother and a father
  282. 21:54respect that elders, families forever, that's been largely replaced by much more identitarian
  283. 22:02perspective.
  284. 22:03If a relationship doesn't feel good to me, then not only can I cut that person off, I should
  285. 22:07cut that person off, protection of mental health has become a big priority. So there's
  286. 22:13a lot of adult children who are cutting off parents, certainly for reasons of abuse and
  287. 22:18neglect. But also for reasons that are much more psychological, much more subtle, much
  288. 22:23more political. And that really is causing a lot of disruption in the families.
  289. 22:33Did you hear what he said? You know, the things that used to hold our families together,
  290. 22:40Things like honor your father and mother, respect your elders.
  291. 22:54You guys are listening to the show, honor your father and mother.
  292. 22:56That's not really a cultural creed.
  293. 22:58That's straight out of the Bible.
  294. 23:03I've been talking about the prevalence of biblical illiteracy in our society.
  295. 23:07You'll see through this that biblical illiteracy has real relational consequences that you have
  296. 23:21an old notion, honor your father and mother, but that's not a notion that is today. The
  297. 23:27overwhelming majority of instances of familial estrangement are the result of the adult child
  298. 23:35severing relationship and contact with the parent. It doesn't happen in the reverse by
  299. 23:42and large. And again, I'm sure you kind of have an idea already what I'm talking about.
  300. 23:48those who may not have seen things like that. Here's a short clip because what's happening
  301. 23:53with this silent epidemic. I'm saying it silent because people are not expressing publicly
  302. 23:59the pain that they're enduring from this, especially the parents who are suffering pain
  303. 24:05from this. And it's caused many parents to be unwilling to speak the truth because they
  304. 24:11are afraid of speaking the truth to their own adult children because they're afraid of
  305. 24:15the consequences relationally with their adult children,
  306. 24:18some instances.
  307. 24:19But because of the attachment, and the data also
  308. 24:23shows that family estrangement, it's not unusual for it
  309. 24:30to begin as a result of the adult child seeking psychotherapy.
  310. 24:39As you have some instances where counselors are encouraging,
  311. 24:43encouraging the adult children to sever the relationship with their parents.
  312. 24:53This is wild and in many instances you have online support groups that are developing that
  313. 24:59have scores of members that there are support groups for adult children who have cut off
  314. 25:06relationship and contact from their parents.
  315. 25:12And it's being lauded as almost like a badge of honor that it's an expression of personal
  316. 25:19growth.
  317. 25:21If you have the courage to cut off these toxic family members.
  318. 25:25Here's an example of what I'm talking about in terms of some of the things that are being
  319. 25:29stated.
  320. 25:32Listen to and watch clip number five, clip five, go.
  321. 25:36I want to just jump on here really quickly for anyone who's dealing with toxic parents,
  322. 25:41narcissistic parents is an estranged adult child.
  323. 25:45I want to talk about how difficult it is to make that decision to go no contact and to
  324. 25:49stay no contact.
  325. 25:51For many of us who have had those very toxic, very narcissistic parents in our lives, you
  326. 25:55typically go through a very long period of time of deciding when and where is it time
  327. 26:00to go no contact.
  328. 26:01To be clear, the first time I went no contact with my mom, this was maybe 15 years ago,
  329. 26:05so it was before it was a fad.
  330. 26:07So this whole topic of conversation that children are just doing this to their parents
  331. 26:11because it's a fad is very obnoxious to me.
  332. 26:14Usually these decisions are made because there has been attempt after attempt after attempt
  333. 26:19to please please please parents be just healthy people in my life and then their constant refusal
  334. 26:25to do so.
  335. 26:26Even when you make that decision it's not a static decision.
  336. 26:29It doesn't stay that way forever.
  337. 26:32Sometimes you might decide to go low contact, sometimes you might decide to reestablish contact.
  338. 26:38These types of conversations didn't used to happen in our country.
  339. 26:43One of the benchmarks of developing into healthy adults was being able to resolve disagreements
  340. 26:51in a healthy manner.
  341. 26:54Some of you remember when I first got a glimpse of this, I guess I would say prior to the 2024
  342. 27:03election, when I was getting notices from people saying, yes, I'm severing a relationship
  343. 27:07with my family because they vote differently from me.
  344. 27:10And I said on this show, I said, what?
  345. 27:13When did that become a thing to do?
  346. 27:17I mean, maybe I'm narrow minded,
  347. 27:20but I know all kinds of families that you have people
  348. 27:23that voted differently, but that didn't change.
  349. 27:25Well, they were still family.
  350. 27:27It was absurd to me.
  351. 27:30I'll show you another one.
  352. 27:32Here's a man saying he cut off his family.
  353. 27:36And I don't know his background.
  354. 27:37He didn't go into a lot,
  355. 27:38some of the factual details as to what led
  356. 27:40to his decision, but he was wearing it as a badge of honor
  357. 27:42that he refused to even go to his dead father's funeral.
  358. 27:46Like it's a matter of protest.
  359. 27:47Like, what are we doing here?
  360. 27:50Like, okay, you're a protest, you're gonna protest
  361. 27:52and let me just let you hear the clips.
  362. 27:56Clip number six, clip six, go.
  363. 27:59And I'm gonna trauma dump here a little bit,
  364. 28:01so buckle up.
  365. 28:02I didn't talk to my father the last 10 years of his life
  366. 28:04and when he died, I didn't go to his funeral.
  367. 28:06And I had many family members reach out to me privately
  368. 28:09and talk about how disappointing it was,
  369. 28:11about how much I am the one that was harming the family
  370. 28:13by not showing up, by me not showing up to a service
  371. 28:16to listen to a bunch of people talking about
  372. 28:18how great this person was when we well all knew he wasn't.
  373. 28:26That's an example of what I'm talking about.
  374. 28:34I mean, he didn't talk to his father for the last 10 years
  375. 28:39of his life and then didn't go to his funeral.
  376. 28:41Like these are things that are happening guys.
  377. 28:46And I'm gonna get to it.
  378. 28:47And now I wanna tell you now,
  379. 28:49So we're going to open the phone lines in this segment and I'm not asking anybody to
  380. 28:54you know, to air the details, whatever's going on in their lives.
  381. 28:58But I really want to get an idea from our audience here how prevalent it may be that our folks
  382. 29:07have been touched by this.
  383. 29:09So what I want to do is invite you to call and the number is 888-589.
  384. 29:15We'll start this next segment.
  385. 29:16give the number now 888-589-8840.
  386. 29:23And I want to invite you to share this something
  387. 29:25that you've experienced either directly or someone
  388. 29:28within close proximity to you, that there's
  389. 29:31been an estrangement of relationship
  390. 29:33to where there's a cessation of contact and relationship
  391. 29:36with parents because of political disagreements,
  392. 29:40because of cultural issues.
  393. 29:45There was one thing that developed.
  394. 29:47And, you know, when you have just to be real, the White House
  395. 29:50lying and saying that Schmovit is the pandemic of the unvaccinated
  396. 29:54when the data says the exact opposite.
  397. 29:57And you have families who literally have separated over that dating all
  398. 30:00the way back to 2020, 2019.
  399. 30:03And because of different opinions concerning Schmovit and the injections
  400. 30:09to vaccine to not vaccine and all of these things to where they've
  401. 30:14They've eliminated, interminated relationship with one another.
  402. 30:18And the reason why I'm bringing this up and I want to know from our audience,
  403. 30:26if this is something that you're confronting or have been confronted with,
  404. 30:30is because with everything the Word of God tells us Romans 12,
  405. 30:36that we are not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed
  406. 30:40by the renewing of our minds, that we are to examine the thing that transpires,
  407. 30:45that transpire under the white, hot scrutiny of God's holy word.
  408. 30:49One of the things that immediately came to my mind as I was studying this,
  409. 30:54as James 1-7 talks about
  410. 30:58pure religion, what is pure religion, pure and undefiled religion,
  411. 31:02take care for widows and orphans. And I've mentioned this on the show before.
  412. 31:06Sometimes people take that scripture and run with it, but you don't realize that the Lord has
  413. 31:10provided us additional clarity and qualification even on
  414. 31:14That notion, and to see what I'm talking about there,
  415. 31:19first Timothy five gives us wisdom
  416. 31:22because the ecclesiastical responsibility for the church
  417. 31:27to care for widows and orphans is not a general duty
  418. 31:31for all widows.
  419. 31:33The Lord gives us additional clarity
  420. 31:35through the Apostle Paul to explain what are
  421. 31:38and who are widows indeed or who are those
  422. 31:41who are truly widows.
  423. 31:42And I'll just start it now.
  424. 31:43Now I'll just read the text, first Timothy chapter five,
  425. 31:47verses three through seven, I'm sorry, verses three through 10,
  426. 31:49I'll read it and we got a break coming up
  427. 31:52and then we'll get into it a little bit more
  428. 31:54and then we'll open the phone lines.
  429. 31:55But the word of God says this,
  430. 31:57honor widows who are truly widows or widows indeed.
  431. 32:00But if a widow has children or grandchildren,
  432. 32:04let them first learn to show godliness to their own household
  433. 32:09and to make some return to their parents
  434. 32:12for this is pleasing in the sight of God.
  435. 32:15She who is truly a widow left all alone
  436. 32:18has set her hope on God and continues
  437. 32:20and supplications and prayers night and day.
  438. 32:23But she who is self-indulgent is dead even while she lives.
  439. 32:27Command these things as well
  440. 32:28so that they may be without reproach.
  441. 32:31But if anyone does not provide for his relatives
  442. 32:34and especially for members of his household,
  443. 32:36he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
  444. 32:41you'll see right away from the text that the scripture
  445. 32:48presumes and anticipates the first line of care for a mom as
  446. 32:54she ages, especially in a condition where her husband may have
  447. 32:57passed away is her own children and grandchildren.
  448. 32:59There's an assumption and expectation of preserved and
  449. 33:02maintained relationship generationally.

  451. 33:11We have not been made the greatest nation of history of
  452. 33:14mankind, by denigrating God, we have become the greatest nation on earth because we are
  453. 33:21a nation that acknowledged Almighty God to be the source of our values, our rights, our
  454. 33:29liberties, and that therefore we are accountable to Him.

  465. 34:11This is David Wheaton, host of The Christian World View.
  466. 34:14Our nation is now 250 years old.
  467. 34:17Founded largely on Christian principles,
  468. 34:19America developed and course corrected
  469. 34:21into one of the greatest empires in history.
  470. 34:24But The Christian World View that pervaded our land
  471. 34:27has now been replaced by a man-centered ethic
  472. 34:30where, quote, every man does what is right in his own eyes.
  473. 34:33Unquote.
  474. 34:34Psalm 2 gives the solution going forward.
  475. 34:37Worship the Lord with reverence and rejoice with trembling.
  476. 34:41Do homage to the Son that he not become angry
  477. 34:45and you perish in the way, for his wrath may soon be kindled.
  478. 34:50How blessed are all who take refuge in him.
  479. 34:54Here are most recent program at thechristianworldview.org
  480. 34:57and then join us this weekend for another topic
  481. 34:59that will sharpen your worldview.

  484. 35:12The Hamilton Quarter Podcast and One-Bitted Common Terrence
  485. 35:16are available at AFR.net.
  486. 35:18Back to the Hamilton Quarter on American Family Radio.
  487. 35:23Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton
  488. 35:26the third here.
  489. 35:28I read this text because in the body of Christ,
  490. 35:33this text should be as readily accessible to us
  491. 35:36as the James 127 reference to pure religion and under file
  492. 35:39just caring for widows and orphans.
  493. 35:41We should immediately be able to connect that to the reality
  494. 35:47that the biblical responsibility for the church
  495. 35:50is to care for widows and orphans who do not have children
  496. 35:53and grandchildren as immediately available to them.
  497. 35:58Now I know that it's contrary to a lot of our practice
  498. 36:01and understanding and unfortunately I believe it's
  499. 36:05because of the prevalence of biblical illiteracy,
  500. 36:07but a part of our discipleship should include the cultivation of younger disciples as we're
  501. 36:14growing through the various stages of maturing in Christ, that there is a biblical expectation
  502. 36:20and anticipation of us to care for our parents as they're aging.
  503. 36:30Some of you as you're listening to me, you'll recall that the whole notion of aging parents
  504. 36:37remaining in their homes until the Lord calls them home was something that's far more common
  505. 36:41about a generation ago.
  506. 36:44But because our families have been attacked so consistently and some attacks are so subtle
  507. 36:49that we don't even recognize them as attacks, and this is one of them I would argue this
  508. 36:52is a strange thing that's happening.
  509. 36:55But the scripture has an anticipation as I read just a few moments ago, but if a widow
  510. 37:01has children or grandchildren, let them, the children and grandchildren, first learn to
  511. 37:07show godliness, not merely be godly, but to show godliness to their own household.
  512. 37:12What that presumes is a preservation and a maintenance of relationship generationally.
  513. 37:22But as you can see, if the phenomenon of voluntary estrangement continues, well, this
  514. 37:30will completely continue.
  515. 37:32This concept from the scripture will deteriorate into non-existence.
  516. 37:36And this is an example also, which you've heard me say, that if you examine the expansion
  517. 37:40of the Leviathan state, it's corresponded with retrenchments in the family, where we've
  518. 37:44back the way in family life, it's resulted in an ever expanding behemoth in government.
  519. 37:54Social safety net, anyone?
  520. 37:57God's designed for the social safety net was supposed to come through the family.
  521. 38:01Not through the government.
  522. 38:04You see what I'm saying?
  523. 38:06So the Lord's heart is articulated as the book of Malachi is closing that the hearts of the
  524. 38:12fathers will be turned to the children.
  525. 38:14The hearts of the children are turned to the fathers.
  526. 38:18our society and the spirit of the ages working in every way to eviscerate that.
  527. 38:23In much of it is cultivated started as the earliest ages possible, sever the pan-child
  528. 38:28relationship, usher the children into being comfortable with being children of the state,
  529. 38:32have little babies being made comfortable being away from mom and dad as early as possible.
  530. 38:41We train our children to be comfortable to be away from family for the majority of their
  531. 38:45waking hours.
  532. 38:48Is any surprise then when a generation has been
  533. 38:50discipled into that framework that it continues on
  534. 38:53into the latter life stages?
  535. 38:55Do y'all see what I'm saying?
  536. 38:56Or am I making something up?
  537. 39:04And many of you as you're listening to me,
  538. 39:07you may very well fall into that group of people
  539. 39:09who man, yeah, this is happening,
  540. 39:11but you don't know what to do about it.
  541. 39:13You feel the pain and the shame sometimes
  542. 39:16if you're the parent, you're thinking,
  543. 39:18what did I do wrong?
  544. 39:19How did I go wrong to cause this kind of thing to happen?
  545. 39:22and you just use you suffer in silence.
  546. 39:28And sometimes the adult child who is unfortunate
  547. 39:32is to come to much of the Maslow self-acculation talk
  548. 39:43will seek to establish quote unquote family everywhere else.
  549. 39:50And act as if, well, this is just as good,
  550. 39:53when deep, deep down, you know deep, deep down
  551. 39:56that this is not right.
  552. 39:59Again, I'm not talking about the variable circumstances
  553. 40:02where there are genuine instances of abuse and things
  554. 40:07in that nature, but I'm talking in a more general sense
  555. 40:09where people are bringing a Gensu knife
  556. 40:13to their families over cultural disagreements,
  557. 40:15political disagreements, stuff that's in the news,
  558. 40:17we have two different opinions on.
  559. 40:18And so instead of engaging in debate,
  560. 40:20even if the conclusion is, well, you have that perspective,
  561. 40:24I have a different perspective, but we love one another.
  562. 40:33So we're gonna open the phone lines 888-589,
  563. 40:378A40 is the number to call and I want to invite you to,
  564. 40:40and I want to see really,
  565. 40:41is this something that you're experiencing
  566. 40:43and this people in this audience,
  567. 40:44whether or not you're experiencing it
  568. 40:46or somebody close to you is experiencing it.
  569. 40:48And if you're willing to share,
  570. 40:49I'm not trying to get in your business
  571. 40:50to get you to expose your business at all.
  572. 40:52But if you're willing to share what's the thing
  573. 40:53that was the genesis of the estrangement phenomenon
  574. 40:59that you're experiencing or those closer you experiencing,
  575. 41:01I want to welcome you to share that with us.
  576. 41:02To the phone lines we go, we'll start in Mississippi
  577. 41:05where Joseph is on the line.
  578. 41:06Joseph, thank you for calling the Hamilton corner.
  579. 41:07Welcome to the program.
  580. 41:09Hey, I'm taking my call and I just want to say thanks
  581. 41:12for AFR for doing what you guys are doing
  582. 41:15and for claiming.
  583. 41:18I just want to do a short summary of what's been going on
  584. 41:21in my situation.
  585. 41:22So my own data divorce,
  586. 41:24both alcohol problems and drug problems.
  587. 41:28And I've recently started a family with a two year old
  588. 41:30little girl and it's just hard to communicate with someone
  589. 41:35that that's going through like that because for me in my house we will serve the Lord.
  590. 41:41And so just the communication right there is hard. Of course I never, yeah, and I still
  591. 41:47love my parents. Don't get me wrong. I mean, they give me life. But at the end of the day,
  592. 41:54you know, it's hard to draw that line for the new family that I've started.
  593. 41:59On this, Joseph, thank you so much for your call and your comments. I understand exactly
  594. 42:03where you're coming from.
  595. 42:05And in your situation, there are chemical dependency issues that impact the way you would interact
  596. 42:14with your family.
  597. 42:15But I don't hear from you saying with some of these chest pounding, the strangers are saying,
  598. 42:24you're saying it with a bit of lament, you're saying it with a bit of grief.
  599. 42:29You're not saying it like with a chest pounding, you know, drum, marching band, drum major, high
  600. 42:37stepping across the 50 yard line, you're saying it with a lament and a concern and a grief.
  601. 42:42And that's a very real phenomenon.
  602. 42:44You know, you're endeavoring to raise your family and to cultivate Christ following in your home
  603. 42:49and the features of the alcoholism are things that present challenges there.
  604. 42:55Man, I understand that.
  605. 42:57I understand that and these are the types of things that we should lift up to the Lord in prayer.
  606. 43:01And that will be a bit different than these people who are removing themselves from or
  607. 43:08severing relationship with their parents because of political disagreements.
  608. 43:12That will be a bit different.
  609. 43:13But thank you for your call and your comment.
  610. 43:15We'll stay in Mississippi and go next to Joy who is on the line.
  611. 43:18Joy, thank you for calling the Hamilton Corner.
  612. 43:20Welcome to the program.
  613. 43:21Thank you.
  614. 43:22I just love your program and AFR for all that they do for us.
  615. 43:27rockin' awesome.
  616. 43:29To get to it quick, I have a cousin
  617. 43:31who raised a boy and a girl, a boy being the older
  618. 43:37when the kids were in about,
  619. 43:39and she homeschooled them, by the way.
  620. 43:41When a kid's got to graduating high school
  621. 43:46just before that, her husband decided
  622. 43:49that he really was a homestead people.
  623. 43:51And so he divorced her and went off with his lover.
  624. 43:56But then insisted on, let's still be a family.
  625. 43:59And so she is really, I don't know how she does it,
  626. 44:04make sure that they all have family meals together
  627. 44:07and be a nice big, and she is remarried.
  628. 44:10And we're just one big happy family.
  629. 44:12That being said, about probably about 2016,
  630. 44:16both of those kids said,
  631. 44:18no mom, we're not having anything to do with you anymore.
  632. 44:21And it was over political stuff.
  633. 44:23Although they had been, you know, family meals and everything.
  634. 44:29To the extent I talked to her recently and her son has two children.
  635. 44:33He's married, the daughter isn't married yet.
  636. 44:36And she, the Christmas present, she sent to the children.
  637. 44:40He said, don't bother sending anything, we just throw them away.
  638. 44:43So she has no relationship anymore with her grandchildren over this.
  639. 44:49And it's exactly what you're talking about.
  640. 44:51breaks my heart. My kids, I mean, these kids are now in there early to mid 30s. And they're
  641. 44:58not, my kids are just behind them and they're late, you know, mid to late 20s. So that's just
  642. 45:08frightening. Wow. And she is so heartbroken. She is just so very heartbroken. Joy, thank
  643. 45:16you for sharing that. That's exactly what I'm talking about. This type of heartbreak is
  644. 45:19happening but it's not being discussed publicly very often. For the sake of trying to get to
  645. 45:25all the people we'll call and we'll try to keep moving a bit. We'll go next to Kansas
  646. 45:29to where Ruth is on the line. Ruth, thank you for calling the Hamilton Corner. Welcome
  647. 45:32to the program. Well, thank you so much for your program. I really do enjoy it and I learned so much
  648. 45:38from it. I think it's terrible that they would separate themselves from their family that way.
  649. 45:44It used to be families lived together. There'd be the grandparents and the parents and the children
  650. 45:49all right there in the same house together for years. And I know my great, great, my great aunt
  651. 45:55and my great uncle, they had a problem because one was a Democrat, one was a Republican. And the
  652. 46:01only problem they really had was on voting day. She refused to ride with him to the voting booth.
  653. 46:10And that's the only problem they had. So I just think it's terrible. They would totally separate
  654. 46:17themselves from their families or parents who may need them.
  655. 46:20Well said Ruth and it's funny you said that but they still live together.
  656. 46:25They didn't ride together on the voting day but they lived together.
  657. 46:30Back to the phone lines we go next to Ohio where Ms. D is on the line.
  658. 46:34Mrs. D is on the line.
  659. 46:36Is it Mrs. D?
  660. 46:37Mrs. D. Mrs. D.
  661. 46:39Mrs. D. Thank you for calling the program.
  662. 46:41Go right ahead.
  663. 46:42I can't believe I'm talking to Abraham Hamilton.
  664. 46:46I look so forward to your program every evening at six o'clock.
  665. 46:50I'm in Ohio in the Eastern Eastern time zone.
  666. 46:56Oh, thank you so much for that.
  667. 46:57I want this.
  668. 46:59This is a very much needed program.
  669. 47:02And the Lord put on my heart at the end of May.
  670. 47:06I know of eight families, one being my own.
  671. 47:10In this case, it's a daughter in law, not in my natural child, my son's wife,
  672. 47:15who have a child that's estranged from them.
  673. 47:19Most of these people are Christian people that I've known through the years in different churches.
  674. 47:25And I was inspired, perhaps the Lord inspired me to write a letter to each of these and ask them to agree with me in prayer
  675. 47:35to break this stronghold of Satan.
  676. 47:39It's heated the enemy, not the children.
  677. 47:43And for Second Corinthians 10, 4 says,
  678. 47:46the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world,
  679. 47:50but on the contrary, we have divine power
  680. 47:53to demolish the strongholds.
  681. 47:55So we're all agreeing together for our families
  682. 47:58that there will be a breaking down and a return to fellowship.
  683. 48:05Well said, Mrs. D. And it's so important
  684. 48:08that we don't endeavor to try to navigate this solely in the flesh, but that we utilize it,
  685. 48:13the violently powerful weapons that God has made available to us.
  686. 48:16Well said, we'll go next to Arkansas where Aaron is on the line.
  687. 48:19Aaron, thank you for calling the Hamilton Corner.
  688. 48:21Go right ahead.
  689. 48:23Thank you, Abraham.
  690. 48:29I'm calling my wife and I have four sons and our two oldest have done no contact.
  691. 48:35Mm.
  692. 48:36I take responsibility and say that in their use and all the light of my ways and the
  693. 48:53attention repair for many years and thought that everything seemed to be great.
  694. 48:58And then, quite honestly, around the time of the last victory, things really turned.
  695. 49:10And it has been poised up, but it is cultural and political alignment.
  696. 49:17It's really hard to grab and you're right.
  697. 49:22It's not spoken of because there is a lot of shame
  698. 49:25and just unknown.
  699. 49:30Some of it seems to be a financial expectation
  700. 49:36that goes along with that.
  701. 49:37Like some sort of retribution.
  702. 49:41But it's a very difficult silence today.
  703. 49:45Aaron, thank you for calling.
  704. 49:46We got a lot of what you said.
  705. 49:47The call was going in and out.
  706. 49:49Man, we have so many people holding up
  707. 49:51wish we could get to everybody.
  708. 49:52but one thing I hope that we all see
  709. 49:54that this is something that is happening.
  710. 49:57And I want to remind everybody that the God
  711. 50:00that we serve is a restorer.
  712. 50:02So the first thing I want to encourage every single one
  713. 50:04of you who have called and those who are holding
  714. 50:07and those who would say I could have called,
  715. 50:09but I didn't call is to refuse to give up
  716. 50:13on your families in prayer,
  717. 50:15but to bring it to the Lord as a matter of prayer,
  718. 50:18as a matter of first and foremost urgency.
  719. 50:21And the Lord will give wisdom and revelation as to how we ought to respond, because just
  720. 50:26as there are many of these calls, I've heard many examples of where the Lord has restored
  721. 50:32relationships.
  722. 50:33But we need to expose the enemy's work in his effort to sever family in this manner.
  723. 50:40The views and opinions expressed in this broadcast may not necessarily reflect those of the American
  724. 50:45Family Association or American Family Radio.
