  10. 0:28Mike Sade Hamilton Corner.
  11. 0:33Good evening, everyone.
  12. 0:35Welcome to the Hamilton Corner live broadcasting from the Culture Proof 2025 conference.
  13. 0:43I'm your host Abraham Hamilton the third joined by the corner contingent.
  14. 0:46I forgot to say this yesterday, but manning the controls back at home base is none other
  15. 0:52than my man a hundred grand Mr. Bobby.
  16. 0:56and right alongside me here on my left physically but not geopolitically or socio-politically.
  17. 1:09The real Jay Mac ladies and gentlemen often imitated but never duplicated and we are ready
  18. 1:14to rock and roll with today's edition of the program.
  19. 1:17As I mentioned we are broadcasting live from the Cultureproof Conference 2025 at Faith Baptist
  20. 1:24Church in Bartlett, Tennessee.
  21. 1:26Man, I literally just came out of two keynote presentations.
  22. 1:31The first was Dr. Lena.
  23. 1:32I want to pronounce this properly.
  24. 1:34Abu Jhamra, who is originally from Lebanon, and the presentation concerned, rejoicing
  25. 1:43in suffering, not merely enduring suffering, but rejoicing in suffering.
  26. 1:49How do we cultivate a maturity in the faith to where we not only endure suffering, but
  27. 1:56we rejoice in the face of it as the scripture outlines, as is available to the believer.
  28. 2:01And then we have our brother, Israel Wayne, who just provided a profound presentation.
  29. 2:13We're having a fantastic time.
  30. 2:14conference will conclude tomorrow I will be delivering a keynote address
  31. 2:18tomorrow I was a part of two panel discussions so far I'll be a part of
  32. 2:24another panel tomorrow and I and I'll have a keynote presentation folks I'm
  33. 2:28just telling you if you have the opportunity you need to come to the
  34. 2:33Cultureproof Conference I don't know if I can say this out loud but I'll say it
  35. 2:36anyway for all y'all just a few of my friends here in the corner from what I
  36. 2:40want for understand Lord willing the conference next year will be at the arc
  37. 2:44in Kentucky with our brother Ken Ham.
  38. 2:47So I'm just telling you, you do not want to miss it.
  39. 2:51It's just an amazing, an amazing time.
  40. 2:53If you weren't able to come this year,
  41. 2:54just go ahead and mark your calendars.
  42. 2:56July 16th through the 18th, I believe, 2026.
  43. 3:00And I should also add, because I know some of you
  44. 3:02have been praying for me that my schedule trip to Israel
  45. 3:06should be obvious, but it's been canceled in light of,
  46. 3:08you know, small thing like war going on there.
  47. 3:12So I will not be in Israel next week.
  48. 3:15I've been contacted by the Israeli government
  49. 3:17and they are endeavoring to reschedule that visit.
  50. 3:22Nevertheless, at this very moment,
  51. 3:24many of you, if not most of you,
  52. 3:26are making your transition from your part-time jobs
  53. 3:28at this very moment to your full-time jobs,
  54. 3:33part-time jobs are where we generate an income,
  55. 3:36our full-time jobs are where we cultivate an outcome.
  56. 3:39And as you are making that transition right now,
  57. 3:42want to encourage you to do so with intentionality, understanding the
  58. 3:45primacy that God places on family, recognizing the central role that family
  59. 3:52plays in God's economy and how the believer is called to outcome cultivation.
  60. 3:59Every believer, every believer is called to execute our King's commission.
  61. 4:06That commission execution is our outcome cultivation.
  62. 4:10It is our privilege.
  63. 4:13It is our opportunity.
  64. 4:15It is mandated to us by the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
  65. 4:19And we have the express honor and privilege of joining him
  66. 4:22and fulfilling his mandate, his call for his people.
  67. 4:27We will do as we usually do on this program,
  68. 4:31begin with the word of God.
  69. 4:33We always want to make sure our hearts and minds are aligned
  70. 4:38According to scripture as we navigate the issues of the day
  71. 4:42We're gonna begin the program today in the book of Colossians Colossians chapter 2
  72. 4:47versus 9 and 10 Colossians chapter 2
  73. 4:51Versus 9 and 10 simply put this is what the word of God says for in him all
  74. 4:59the fullness of deity dwells in bodily form and
  75. 5:04in him you have been made complete and
  76. 5:06And he is the head over all rule and authority.
  77. 5:13I want to say it very plainly.
  78. 5:15The Greek word all in this text means all.
  79. 5:21The theologian Abraham Kuiper has articulated, and this is a paraphrase of that articulation,
  80. 5:28but there is not a molecule in the universe that is not subject to his jurisdiction.
  81. 5:38There is not an atom over which God does not exercise his jurisdiction.
  82. 5:46Here when it says for in him all the fullness of deity dwells, clearly the context indicates
  83. 5:50that it's referring to Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah.
  84. 5:54And it concludes in verse 10 that I just read, and he is the head over all rule and
  85. 6:04authority.
  86. 6:06So in this moment of tumultuous events, percolating on the world stage, war between Israel and
  87. 6:14Iran, war between Russia and Ukraine, uncertainty with China and Taiwan, uncertainty with
  88. 6:23tear of conversations, I want to simply remind you that none of this is beyond the jurisdiction
  89. 6:30and the scope of the sovereignty of Messiah.
  90. 6:36All of it is subjected to his authority, from the macro level issues all the way down to
  91. 6:46the parent that is praying for that prodigal child, the one who is wrestling with a challenge
  92. 6:54in marriage, the circumstances that seem to be provoking with an eroding capacity, none
  93. 7:05of it is beyond the scope of Jesus' authority.
  94. 7:09And because that is true, it must impact and guide how we navigate.
  95. 7:16So this is a moment where I simply want to remind everyone listening that Messiah's sovereignty
  96. 7:25has not, you know, you put certain items of clothing in the washing machine and you put
  97. 7:29in the dryer and they shrink, you know.
  98. 7:32I just want to remind you that the events that are percolating in the world today have
  99. 7:37not caused Jesus' potency to shrink. Like the extra large shirt didn't become a
  100. 7:43shmetium in the dryer all of a sudden. Didn't become a shmetium in the dryer.
  101. 7:46God is in control at the macro level and his jurisdiction permeates all the way
  102. 7:52down to how we live our lives on a daily basis. God is still in control. So when I
  103. 8:00encourage you earlier this week to pray for the President, I didn't do so because
  104. 8:04Oh, isn't that cute?
  105. 8:06No, I did so because the same God who's in control is the one who calls us to be anxious for nothing,
  106. 8:11but in everything by prayer and supplication, let our requests be made known and the peace
  107. 8:18that surpasses all understanding will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
  108. 8:22The same one calls us to rejoice at all times.
  109. 8:28I was reminded in Dr. Lina's presentation, you know, Acts chapter 5.
  110. 8:34Peter and John before the Sanhedrin.
  111. 8:37They were threatened.
  112. 8:39Then later in this passage, they were flogged, beaten.
  113. 8:45And you look at the text, I mean, this is striking
  114. 8:49to consider, but Acts 5 verse 41.
  115. 8:51So they went on their way from the presence of the council,
  116. 8:55rejoicing that they had been considered worthy
  117. 9:01to suffer for his name.
  118. 9:05How often do we think about that?
  119. 9:07that they went away from the presence of the council,
  120. 9:12rejoicing that they had been considered worthy to suffer.
  121. 9:16We don't often think about that,
  122. 9:17but when we reflect on the jurisdiction,
  123. 9:21the expansive jurisdiction,
  124. 9:23the scope of massaged jurisdiction,
  125. 9:26it leaves us with no other option, no other alternative.
  126. 9:30But we're consistently put in the position
  127. 9:32to where we must re-examine.
  128. 9:36Are we going to live according to God's word,
  129. 9:40or are we gonna live according to man's word?
  130. 9:43Are we gonna live according to God's word,
  131. 9:44or are we gonna live according to man's word,
  132. 9:47even if man's word is our own?
  133. 9:50How do we respond when circumstances don't pay out
  134. 9:53the way that we want them to?
  135. 9:55Do we charge it to God?
  136. 9:56Do we charge God with folly?
  137. 9:58Do we allow it to become an occasion for unbelief
  138. 10:02to set in for bitterness toward God,
  139. 10:05to set in or, or can we mature to live according to what the
  140. 10:11Apostle James had counted all joy when you suffered trials of
  141. 10:17various sorts, because we understand that the trying of our
  142. 10:21faith produces patience. One of the things that was stated
  143. 10:27earlier, and in the presentation, this is back to Dr.
  144. 10:31Leanish presentation, that suffering is promulgated to
  145. 10:35produce endurance. Endurance. One of the main vehicles that moves the believer from being
  146. 10:42kind of a bantamweight believer to growing a bit of maturity and stability is enduring
  147. 10:48and overcoming difficulty. And I want to be clear, I don't say that with a casual,
  148. 10:53and during difficulty. Nah, man, I'm a human being too. I have faced and am facing things
  149. 10:59just like everybody else. But one of the great benefits to being a believer is that we don't
  150. 11:04to navigate difficulty as if we don't know God exists.
  151. 11:08And as if we don't know, he is our God personally.
  152. 11:13That's one of the things that causes us to get our weight up
  153. 11:16spiritually, that the weight up we navigate difficulty.
  154. 11:20How do we face challenges and adversity?
  155. 11:25We must be reminded, and man, and I'm looking at it,
  156. 11:27and Brother Iger was reminding us today
  157. 11:28about the expansive reality of God's authority.
  158. 11:31All authority is his.
  159. 11:33There is not a circumstance that presents a effective counter narrative to that fact.
  160. 11:40That is a biblical transcendent fact that all authority belongs to Jesus.
  161. 11:47So because that is a fact, how then shall we live?
  162. 11:51How then shall we live?
  163. 11:53How does Jesus' authority affect us as we assess macro-level things?
  164. 11:59How does Jesus' authority affect us when we consider how we operate within our homes?
  165. 12:04Does Jesus' authority extend to our homes?
  166. 12:07Does it extend to the way we manner,
  167. 12:09to our manner of living?
  168. 12:11Does it extend to what you guys heard me describe
  169. 12:13before the speech and speech phenomenon?
  170. 12:15Oftentimes we can speak consistent
  171. 12:17with the recognition of Jesus' authority,
  172. 12:19but how does that affect how we walk?
  173. 12:21How does it affect how we live?
  174. 12:23If he is who we have declared him to be,
  175. 12:26then our lives should bear out that reality.
  176. 12:30And I've often said, you guys know it,
  177. 12:32worship is not merely an activity.
  178. 12:34We worship, we have the blessing of skillful musicians and things of that nature.
  179. 12:40Worship and song is an aspect of worship, but it's not the sum total of them.
  180. 12:43And the pinnacle of a worship filled disposition, a worshipful follower of Jesus Christ, the pinnacle of worship is obedience.
  181. 12:53If he is who we have declared himself to be, if he is who we have declared him to be, then our lives should reflect that.
  182. 13:00oftentimes life's circumstances arise to allow us to recognize where in our own hearts we stray
  183. 13:07from that recognition and that profession that all authority belongs to Jesus. And so when that
  184. 13:13revelation occurs, often there's a revelation to us, oh Lord, I didn't realize I had that area
  185. 13:19of darkness in my own heart. The covenantal response should be when I say covenant to
  186. 13:23I mean, those of us who are in covenant with Christ Jesus should be.
  187. 13:29Lord, help me.
  188. 13:31Lord, change me.
  189. 13:33Father, I confess which we have highlighted by your grace.
  190. 13:37I confess that that is an area of sinfulness.
  191. 13:40And I welcome you, Jesus, to forge me ever the more into Christ's likeness.
  192. 13:48That's the response.
  193. 13:50That's the covenantal response.
  194. 13:52And as that transpires, what God often does, man, He refines
  195. 13:56our capacity to be effective in his harvest field because our lives don't contradict our professions,
  196. 14:03but that we have lifestyles that confirm what we profess to believe, including the necessity of
  197. 14:10us being a people who bear fruit in keeping with repentance. Colossians 2, 9 and 10, for in him all
  198. 14:17the fullness of deity dwells in bodily form and in him you have been made complete and he is the head
  199. 14:24over all rule and authority. The word all in Greek there means all. There's nothing outside
  200. 14:33of Messiah's jurisdiction. We would be prudent, prudent to aspire to live as if that is true
  201. 14:42because simply put it is true and it is our privilege to align ourselves with the truth.
  202. 14:49Worship is a lifestyle, lifestyle, obedience is the pinnacle. We'll be right back when we
  203. 14:54come back from this break.
  204. 14:55Y'all stay with us.
  205. 14:56The month of June has been hijacked by the anti-Christian culture to show their pride in
  206. 15:03something God calls an abomination.
  207. 15:05When you support AFR, you help us continue to stand for godly values and provide the resources
  208. 15:11for you to stay in the know about the enemy's tactics.

  210. 15:20the 1990s to help strengthen your convictions.

  212. 15:26AFR.net slash offers.
  213. 15:33My child.
  214. 15:38Welcome back to the Hamilton corner. Abraham Hamilton III here. And I am delighted to have
  215. 15:43with me a man who was a hero in the face of to me a champion in the faith. And I'm saying to me and
  216. 15:50many others, a brother who has dedicated himself since the nineties traversing our country,
  217. 15:56encouraging families, encouraging the body of Christ to give their all to serve the Lord,
  218. 16:01starting first in their homes. He is a conference speaker. He is an author. I've
  219. 16:06said numerous times. His books have been a blessing to my family personally. We've
  220. 16:11used his catechism in training our children. His book, Education Does God
  221. 16:17Have an Opinion, has been a formative for our family. And I'm so grateful for none
  222. 16:23other than Brother Israel Wayne. He and his wonderful wife Brooke are living
  223. 16:27Southwest Michigan and they are pouring in and discipling their 11 children from their
  224. 16:34homes.
  225. 16:35You don't know how I always memorize.
  226. 16:36It's amazing.
  227. 16:37I'm impressed.
  228. 16:38What I do, man, I really think very, very highly of you.
  229. 16:40I counted a pleasure to know you and most importantly, I'm grateful for your commitment
  230. 16:45to our Lord and your commitment to building His bride.
  231. 16:48If you love Jesus, you must love His bride.
  232. 16:51When I meet people who love the Lord as you do, it's just heartening for me.
  233. 16:54Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner.
  234. 16:56Well, thank you, brother.
  235. 16:57It's a blessing to be back on your show.
  236. 16:59Oh, man, I'm telling you the pleasure is ours.
  237. 17:00So I wanted to have you on to begin this conversation
  238. 17:04with just simply articulating the significance,
  239. 17:08the importance, and I was just talking,
  240. 17:09you heard me talking about Jesus' authority.
  241. 17:12Jesus' authority must drive down to the lowest levels
  242. 17:17of our lives just as it applies to kind of the macro level
  243. 17:20transcendent ideas and how we conduct ourselves in our homes.
  244. 17:24So I wanted to just start the conversation by talking about the significance of parents responding to God's mandate for us to lead in
  245. 17:32disciplining our children and our homes.
  246. 17:34Amen. I think sometimes when we look at the problems in the world, it's very easy for us to feel like we check ourselves out
  247. 17:42of being part of the solution because the problems seem too big, they're macro. What are we going to do about the United Nations?
  248. 17:50going to do about war in the Middle East and all these kinds of things, right? And so we feel
  249. 17:56very helpless and powerless to actually be part of fixing the problem. And yet one of the most
  250. 18:04powerful things that we can do that is actually shaping future generations happens within our
  251. 18:10own home. And the influence that we can have with our own children, through our marriages,
  252. 18:17through the discipleship that we bring about in our homes, it literally transforms nations.
  253. 18:24And we don't sometimes think about how powerful that formation is.
  254. 18:31And so when we think about our responsibility, like there's the sovereignty of God,
  255. 18:37but then there's also our duty and our responsibility as a servants in the Kingdom, under the King.
  256. 18:44The things that we get to do on a daily basis are really actionable, but they also matter so significantly.
  257. 18:54I can't think of anything that is more important on this planet than being faithful in shepherding your own family.
  258. 19:05And sometimes I come home as a husband and my wife just like every other family
  259. 19:12Sometimes this had a hard day and we have children and we have had children who do things children do
  260. 19:18Yes, and whether that's just making messes or being disobedient or whatever the issue is and sometimes my poor wife will feel overwhelmed
  261. 19:27And she'll feel like she was a failure
  262. 19:30failure that day. And I will say to my wife, let me ask you a few
  263. 19:35things. I did our children today know that we love them. And she'll
  264. 19:45say, well, I think so. And I'll say, did you tell them? Did you
  265. 19:50tell the children that you love them? And she'll think and she'll
  266. 19:53say, yes, yes, I did. And I'll say, do you think they believed
  267. 19:57you?
  268. 19:58Which is right? So we got asked, and she'll think she'll say,
  269. 20:01You know, yeah, I think, I hope they did.
  270. 20:03I think they did.
  271. 20:04And I'll say, you know, did we teach them about Jesus today?
  272. 20:09She'll say, yeah, we did.
  273. 20:10And I'll say, you know what?
  274. 20:12We didn't have a trip to the emergency room.
  275. 20:14You know, the house is still standing.
  276. 20:18The dishes that are piled up, guess what?
  277. 20:19We can wash those.
  278. 20:21And the mess in the living room, we can clean that up.
  279. 20:24But you know, today we did the most important things
  280. 20:29that we could possibly do.
  281. 20:31We told our children about Jesus and we made sure that they knew we loved them.
  282. 20:37And if we got nothing else done today, I call that a win.
  283. 20:41You know, I think that is that today, because you can't do everything.
  284. 20:45You have to prioritize. We did the most important things.
  285. 20:48Today was a resounding success.
  286. 20:51And I think that's something that we as men have to have that macro big picture to realize.
  287. 20:56realize this is what the kingdom of God looks like practically applied on a daily
  288. 21:01basis and I always say to men that you know our families are kind of the
  289. 21:06thermometer spiritually and we come in sometimes and we check the temperature
  290. 21:10we're like oh not good right but as dads and husbands we're the thermostat we
  291. 21:17control the temperature of the home and we don't like the temperature the thing
  292. 21:21to do is not curse the thermometer. The thing to do is to change the temperature by changing
  293. 21:28us. And so we get to drive the emotional and spiritual temperature, relational temperature
  294. 21:34of our home. And so, you know, for us as men, this is a great duty. And these things are actionable.
  295. 21:42And they matter beyond what we can ever imagine. The impact and the ripple effect of that goes
  296. 21:49generation's deep. Now thank you for being so gracious to coming on now because I know
  297. 21:53you literally just came from the platform providing a keynote presentation and you booked
  298. 21:58it right over here to go on the program with me and I'm so grateful for you. Grateful to
  299. 22:03you for doing that. I wanted to follow up with something because you made a statement that
  300. 22:09conveying to your children that you love them. Do they believe you? Have you told them about
  301. 22:15Jesus today as the most important thing so often many people even professing Christians
  302. 22:21Internally the wrestle whether or not that truly is the most important thing
  303. 22:26What would you say to the person who would say to you what Israel? How can you say that is the most important thing?
  304. 22:31What about this? What about that? What about these other?
  305. 22:34Things are they not?
  306. 22:37Worth incorporating your assessment assessment as whether or not the day has been successful
  307. 22:41Well, think about what Jesus said in John 17, 3, this is eternal life, that they may know
  308. 22:47you the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he has sent.
  309. 22:53Man, that's the big thing.
  310. 22:55Do our children know God?
  311. 22:56Do they know Jesus?
  312. 22:58And then when Jesus asked what the greatest commandments were, he said, love the Lord your
  313. 23:02God with all your heart, your soul, your mind, your strength, love your neighbor as yourself.
  314. 23:07So our goal with our children is to teach them that's the whole thing.
  315. 23:12And everything else that we do in life is a means to an end.
  316. 23:17So education is not an end.
  317. 23:20It's a means.
  318. 23:21High school diploma.
  319. 23:23That's not an end.
  320. 23:24That's a means.
  321. 23:26College.
  322. 23:27College degree.
  323. 23:29A job.
  324. 23:30A paycheck.
  325. 23:32Even the things that we buy with the paycheck.
  326. 23:34A car.
  327. 23:35A house.
  328. 23:37Those things are all means.
  329. 23:39What is the end?
  330. 23:41The end is loving God with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, loving our neighbor as
  331. 23:45ourselves.
  332. 23:46So God has put us on this planet to know Him, to love Him, to adore Him, to worship Him, to
  333. 23:52serve Him.
  334. 23:53But He doesn't need anything, right?
  335. 23:54So how do we serve God?
  336. 23:56It's by loving and serving the people that He's put in our path.
  337. 24:00So I constantly try to keep that in front of my children.
  338. 24:02But our goal that we're trying to equip you for is to know you're not here for yourself.
  339. 24:08You're not getting an education for you to know, love and serve yourself.
  340. 24:12You're getting an education and we're preparing you for ultimately loving and serving other
  341. 24:17people to the glory of God.
  342. 24:19And so I constantly try to keep that in front of our family.
  343. 24:23In fact, I made a family mission statement that I framed and I put in the living room of
  344. 24:27our house in the central place.
  345. 24:28I've done the same thing.
  346. 24:29This is who we are. This is why we're here and we want to remind ourselves all day every day
  347. 24:34And then ask ourselves are the things that we're engaging in in the family
  348. 24:38Are they keeping us on mission and are they bringing us closer to that?
  349. 24:42Ultimate goal or are they taking us further off?
  350. 24:46Does does this video game?
  351. 24:48Equip me to know God better and does it equip me to love and serve other people better?
  352. 24:52Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Well does this Netflix show help me to know God better and equip me to love and serve other people better?
  353. 25:01If it's taking us off mission
  354. 25:03Man, we need to evaluate that. Yeah, I mean ask ourselves
  355. 25:07Should we be doing stuff that's just completely distracting us and getting us off mission?
  356. 25:12Or are the things that we're doing on mission preparing us for that task and you know my children will all have different callings
  357. 25:20You know and let's say once a doctor, right? They're gonna need to know how to love and serve people
  358. 25:24I'm gonna need some skills. Yeah, you need to know some anatomy some biology
  359. 25:28Yeah, but for what purpose the love and serve themselves know to love and serve other people and a glorified God by being the best surgeon
  360. 25:35They can be mm-hmm. Don't fear an attorney or your accountant or you know you change people's oil
  361. 25:42Whatever it is that you do you do it for the love of God the glory of God and love and service of other people
  362. 25:48And so you're gonna need some skills. Yeah, you know, so we want to make sure kids have skills like we're putting practical
  363. 25:54Teaching into their life to teach them how to do the things God's gonna have them do in their life
  364. 25:59But again, we got to keep them loaded in front of them. That's right. Why but why are you doing this?
  365. 26:03Why are you changing oil? Why are you doing people's taxes, right?
  366. 26:06This is about the love of God's service of other people
  367. 26:09Man and as you're articulating this I think one of the major things that is a hindrance
  368. 26:13to the body of Christ, it has been really kind of competing
  369. 26:17loyalties.
  370. 26:18When you talk about what is the end, sometimes we
  371. 26:20conflate means with the end.
  372. 26:22Or we allow the world to dictate to us what our end should be.
  373. 26:27And as a result, you kind of reverse engineering it, we end
  374. 26:30up investing ourselves in things that would be detractors
  375. 26:33away from the ultimate objective, a mindful of the parable of
  376. 26:36the soils.
  377. 26:37And Jesus talked about the seed sown among the thorns, you know,
  378. 26:40and the cares of this life and the deceitfulness of riches
  379. 26:43making the seat unimpactful.
  380. 26:46How then do we contend to maintain clarity
  381. 26:49as to what should be the end?
  382. 26:51Because Jesus said we're in the world,
  383. 26:53what are I supposed to be of it?
  384. 26:54Yeah.
  385. 26:55Well, I think that's where we have to continually align ourselves
  386. 26:58to the truth of God's word and to know our end,
  387. 27:02start with the end in mind.
  388. 27:04And so again, I think so many times
  389. 27:06when we think about education, we tell our children,
  390. 27:10like you need a good education so you can get a good job,
  391. 27:13so you can be comfortable, so you can have the things you need, so you can buy the things that you need to basically be comfortable and affluent.
  392. 27:21Well, what is that? That's the American dream.
  393. 27:24So I often say that as Christians, we're often confessional Christians and we're functional humanists.
  394. 27:29We still have the same goals, the same desires, the same drives, the same ambitions as the world.
  395. 27:34We love the things of the world, we desire the things of the world, it's all about us.
  396. 27:40We're the king of self in our own life and our you know, and yet we're not supposed to be about that
  397. 27:45We're supposed to be about the kingdom of God and you mentioned us husbands and fathers being a thermostat
  398. 27:51thermostats in our home and if we recognize that temperature is off
  399. 27:54It's practically actionable for us to change that temperature
  400. 27:58What would you recommend to those maybe listening and I say whoo?
  401. 28:02Here's where you got steel to boots on I'm supposed to be thermostat in my home
  402. 28:07I may recognize if things are off, but I didn't realize I had such a
  403. 28:11Central contribution to that temperature. What are some of the practically actionable things that we can do as fathers and husbands to change that temperature?
  404. 28:20Well, we can be mindful of what we say
  405. 28:22But we also need to be mindful of the way we communicate in nonverbal ways because most most of communication is nonverbal
  406. 28:28And so guys sometimes go to work
  407. 28:30They have a hard day and they can't take out their frustrations on their boss
  408. 28:34loss, that's not wise. And they can't take the frustrations out on their customers,
  409. 28:39because that's not wise. So what do they do? They internalize that. They bring home that
  410. 28:43stress and then they offload it on people who can't defend themselves. Usually it's
  411. 28:49directed at their wife. So then basically you take this whole weight that you have on
  412. 28:53your shoulders of stress and anxiety and you know, anger, you offload it to her. When
  413. 28:58now she's got it. So what does she do with it? Well, she usually offloads it to the children.
  414. 29:03And then the older ones all floated on the younger ones, and this is why I jokingly say
  415. 29:06every family needs to have a cat, so that the little kid, the youngest one has somebody to
  416. 29:11all float too.
  417. 29:12You know?
  418. 29:13I'm just joking.
  419. 29:14I do.
  420. 29:15But you know, so what we can do is we can be mindful of our tone, we can be mindful of
  421. 29:21our attitude.
  422. 29:22Andrew Murray is one of my favorite authors, great godly theologian from 150 years ago.
  423. 29:28And he used to say this, let the light in your eyes and the smile on your face testify to
  424. 29:36your children that you fear the Lord.
  425. 29:39And he had eight children and all eight of his children were either pastors or married
  426. 29:44pastors and missionaries.
  427. 29:45All eight of his kids were faithful as adults in serving the Lord in ministry.
  428. 29:49That's a guy I want to listen to.
  429. 29:51And he talks about how you teach them, teach, teach, teach, teach, but he says, the smile
  430. 29:56on your face and the light in your eyes? Do we as dads communicate that to our family?
  431. 30:04Or do they get a lot of anger and frustration and annoyance from us? So I think it's not just
  432. 30:11what we say. Are we Christ-like in the way we relate to them? Again, these are practical,
  433. 30:17actionable things that we can control and that we should. Now I know you, I want to take a brief
  434. 30:23segue you write on these topics, you speak on these topics, where can people get the resources
  435. 30:28that you and your wife book publish to aid them in putting these things into practice?
  436. 30:33Our ministry website is familyrenewal.org, familyrenewal.org. And there's a button there,
  437. 30:40it says store, you can go over there and buy our books and look at our resources. We also
  438. 30:44have great articles and lots of things. We also have a video podcast on YouTube called
  439. 30:49Family Renewal. So we would love for people to connect with us. I'm on social media, Israel
  440. 30:53Wayne and then also family renewal love to connect with anybody there so great way to stay connected. It's one of the good sides of social media
  441. 30:59Yeah, we can stay connected encourage each other. Yeah and get good good resources
  442. 31:04Man the Andrew Murray quote that you shared is one
  443. 31:09He's from 150 years ago, but that's as current as right now
  444. 31:12Because that's one of the major transitions, you know, I end up it became a thing on the show
  445. 31:17So talking about leaving your income generating capacity as your part time job, but cultivating
  446. 31:23an outcome in your homes is our full time jobs.
  447. 31:25And that statement about the light of your eyes and the smile on your face to reflect
  448. 31:31your fear of the Lord.
  449. 31:33That is something that we as fathers can begin to put into practice right now.
  450. 31:39One of the things that are often encouraged dads practically to allow their commute home
  451. 31:43to be a time of prayer, you know, to where the Lord recalibrates our minds and our hearts
  452. 31:48so that we make that shift, okay?
  453. 31:50This is what I was doing there.
  454. 31:52Now it's time to be at home.
  455. 31:53I don't want to just really be physically present, but I want to be functionally present
  456. 31:57in that light of the eyes and the smile on our faces could bring us a long way into being
  457. 32:03effective to setting the proper temperature in our home as the thermostats.
  458. 32:07More with Israel Wayne when we get back from this break.
  459. 32:15The month of June has been hijacked by the anti-Christian culture to show their pride in
  460. 32:19something God calls an abomination.
  461. 32:22When you support AFR, you help us continue to stand for godly values and provide the resources
  462. 32:28for you to stay in the know about the enemy's tactics.
  463. 32:31To say thank you for your gift this month, we'll give you the booklet Inside the LGBTQ
  464. 32:36push of the 1990s to help strengthen your convictions.

  467. 32:45A Hamilton Corner podcast and one-minute commentaries
  468. 32:53are available at aFR.net.
  469. 32:55Back to the Hamilton Corner.
  470. 32:56Back to the American Family Radio.
  471. 32:59Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton.
  472. 33:02The third here, my guest is the director of Family Renewal.
  473. 33:05You can find all of the resources to God
  474. 33:08as blessed is brother and his wife to produce by going to familyrenewal.org.
  475. 33:14Familyrenewal.org.
  476. 33:15We were having a conversation before we went to the break and I wanted to continue that conversation.
  477. 33:19Brother Israel just finished a keynote presentation here at the Culture Proof Conference 2025
  478. 33:25and he began by discussing Jesus' authority, the same reality we talked about from the scriptures
  479. 33:31in Colossians chapter 2, verses 9 and 10.
  480. 33:34I wanted to invite you to bring the corner audience
  481. 33:38into your presentation concerning Jesus'
  482. 33:41expansive and comprehensive authority.
  483. 33:44Absolutely.
  484. 33:45And before I jump into that,
  485. 33:46I just wanna say for those who have never yet experienced
  486. 33:49the Culture Proof Conference, it is amazing.
  487. 33:52There's an amazing lineup of speakers.
  488. 33:54I love that I actually get to sit and listen
  489. 33:56to some of the best speakers in the country
  490. 33:58at this conference.
  491. 33:59And so to be able to be part of it,
  492. 34:01to be able to just be one of the speakers is a great honor.
  493. 34:05So what I wanted to talk about this year is rather than focusing on how bad the world is,
  494. 34:12because I think a lot of us are aware of that, and we do need to talk about that.
  495. 34:15That's important because, man, there's just a lot of terrible stuff going on out there.
  496. 34:20But sometimes we can be overwhelmed with fear and just feel so much stress and anxiety
  497. 34:25over things that seem like they're outside of our control,
  498. 34:28and yet somehow we feel responsible,
  499. 34:31like we're supposed to do something or whatever.
  500. 34:33And rather than focusing on that,
  501. 34:35I just wanted to talk about the supremacy
  502. 34:39of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  503. 34:40And so my message was called Almighty Overall.
  504. 34:43And I was talking about how Jesus told us in Matthew 28
  505. 34:48that all authority and heaven and on earth
  506. 34:52has been given to me, he says.
  507. 34:55Not some authority, not a little bit of authority.
  508. 34:57All authority has been given to me, and therefore you go.
  509. 35:01And so when we go through our daily lives, we do so,
  510. 35:05we should do so with the cognition, the realization
  511. 35:09that is not all about us.
  512. 35:12He's in control, he's king, he is the Lord of Lords,
  513. 35:15he's the authority over all authorities,
  514. 35:18and all the way through the prophecies
  515. 35:20in the Old Testament, Daniel chapter seven,
  516. 35:23talk about the Son of Man and how all dominion
  517. 35:25had been given to him and how he would rule over all the nations and this promise all the
  518. 35:32way through the Old Testament and the fulfillment of it by conquering death and sin and the grave
  519. 35:37and everything being put under his feet and being given to him is the wordy that we can
  520. 35:44go through this life not with the thought that everything is chaotic, not with the thought
  521. 35:50that it's all out of control and we're just on this dust ball spinning in space and who
  522. 35:54who knows what's gonna happen.
  523. 35:56But realizing that the history is controlled
  524. 36:02by the Lord Jesus, our future is secure in Him,
  525. 36:06that He's Lord over the past, He's Lord over the future,
  526. 36:10He's Lord of our present.
  527. 36:12He tells us we're not supposed to worry,
  528. 36:14we're not supposed to be anxious
  529. 36:16because He knows our needs.
  530. 36:18He will take care of us.
  531. 36:19And so what I find is that, again, I say this a lot,
  532. 36:24that we're confessional Christians
  533. 36:26and we're functional humanists.
  534. 36:28We say with our mouth we believe certain things,
  535. 36:30but then the way that we actually functionally live,
  536. 36:33we live as though these things aren't true,
  537. 36:37that Jesus isn't in control
  538. 36:39and that the world is spinning out of control
  539. 36:41and it's all hopeless and the economy is such a mess.
  540. 36:44And the Lord Jesus Christ has authority over all things.
  541. 36:49And so I think what we have to do is step back
  542. 36:52ask ourselves the question of when God allows difficulty into our life, why does he do that?
  543. 36:59And what's his purpose?
  544. 37:01And so we realize that God's number one goal all the time and everything he ever does is
  545. 37:06number one to bring glory to himself.
  546. 37:09So if God's doing something, it is always to bring glory to himself no matter what.
  547. 37:15But then secondly for us, his goal is to conform us into the image of Christ, to make us more
  548. 37:21like Jesus. And so sometimes we curse the very things that God has allowed into our lives
  549. 37:29for the purpose of making us more like Jesus. We resent it, we're bitter about it, we're angry
  550. 37:36about it. We yell at God about it. It's like, but this is the very things that God has allowed
  551. 37:43into our life to help strip us of ourselves, our own self-reliance, our own sense of self-imposed
  552. 37:52or our own capacity and to show us how needy we are
  553. 37:58and how much we just really need Jesus.
  554. 38:01And those things are blessings in our life.
  555. 38:03They are, that can be financial difficulty,
  556. 38:06it can be health crisis,
  557. 38:08it can be external opposition,
  558. 38:11it could be somebody slandering us,
  559. 38:13it could be any number of things.
  560. 38:15God is allowing that in our life
  561. 38:18to help us to become more like Jesus.
  562. 38:21Wouldn't it change our perspective as opposed to shaking our fist at God and getting angry and saying go out
  563. 38:26This thing that happened in my life. Well, we know why he allowed it. He told us in his word
  564. 38:31That he's doing it to help conform us in the image of Christ
  565. 38:34Shouldn't think it's strange when these things come upon us, right? And so
  566. 38:39What should we do in the middle of those things? We should worship
  567. 38:44We should praise God. We should exalt the glorious King
  568. 38:49Because He is good. And we should preach to ourselves and tell ourselves not how we feel,
  569. 38:56but tell ourselves what is true. I said to the audience here, sometimes you got to get up in the
  570. 39:02morning, you got to preach to the person in the mirror, and you got to tell that person what is true.
  571. 39:07And it changes how we live, rather than thinking that God is this cosmic Santa Claus in the sky,
  572. 39:15who's supposed to give us everything that we want and make sure nothing bad ever happens to us.
  573. 39:20We actually lived by our theology, we would say,
  574. 39:22God has allowed this difficulty in my life. He's doing so to bring in glory and to
  575. 39:27break me of myself so that I become more dependent on Jesus and therefore become more Christ-like.
  576. 39:34And so we thank God that we say, thank you Jesus. Thank you for allowing this in my life. I pray
  577. 39:37that you'll do the work in me to break me of myself, my own self-will, my own self-reliance.
  578. 39:42Just show me how much I need you and make me more like Jesus.
  579. 39:46And you know what we get through a lot of those things faster.
  580. 39:49Yeah. A lot faster.
  581. 39:50Yeah. And a lot different in terms of internal disposition.
  582. 39:54Yes for sure. Because the instruction to rejoice always.
  583. 39:58Yes. Doesn't mean that all things will be jovial.
  584. 40:01That is right. That doesn't mean that all things will be jovial.
  585. 40:05But the capacity to rejoice always requires us to take respite in God's
  586. 40:11His God's providence, His expansive and comprehensive jurisdiction,
  587. 40:16but also His love specifically for us.
  588. 40:19So that we can obey the admonition through the Apostle James to count it all joy.
  589. 40:26That's right.
  590. 40:27You know, to one of my favorite hymns,
  591. 40:29Great is Thy Faithfulness, written by the Prophet Jeremiah in the book of lamentations.
  592. 40:34Yes.
  593. 40:35As Nebuchadnezzar is waylaying Judah, you know, he is articulating what we offer.
  594. 40:40as he's watching the fulfillment of prophecy happen that wasn't
  595. 40:45comfortable for him.
  596. 40:46And it's one of those things, but we've had such a twisting of gospel
  597. 40:50presentation in our country to where many people try to curate for
  598. 40:54themselves suffering less lives, which result in a deprivation of our
  599. 40:59capacity to have this aspect of maturity, which is why we end up
  600. 41:04with professing believer done being a mile wide and an inch deep.
  601. 41:07I think believer dumb being a mile wide and an inch deep for sure to wear anything that kind of brushes up against us
  602. 41:13It causes us to be oh, I don't know what's true. I don't know what what what is and it's one of those things it's
  603. 41:22It's kind of like a child
  604. 41:25refusing to
  605. 41:27consume vegetables
  606. 41:29Because M&M's are so much preference so much so much more preferable. Yeah
  607. 41:34But the parent is trying to say, listen, I know what's best for you.
  608. 41:37You may not like imminence.
  609. 41:39I'm sorry, I may not like the vegetables, but you need them.
  610. 41:42Yes, absolutely.
  611. 41:45And it really is our theology that's supposed to drive the way we live.
  612. 41:48Like our orthodoxy informs our orthodoxy.
  613. 41:53And so when we start with a wrong premise based on theology, which is the knowledge of
  614. 42:00God, the understanding of God.
  615. 42:03When we start with that wrong understanding of who God is and what his role is and his
  616. 42:08purpose is, we're going to make a lot of bad conclusions and make a lot of bad decisions
  617. 42:13in our life and behave badly.
  618. 42:15So one of the fundamental premises that most Christians have, even if it's subconsciously,
  619. 42:20is that God is here to make sure that nothing bad happens to me.
  620. 42:24And that my life goes well and he blesses me and prospers me and he keeps all the bad
  621. 42:30stuff away.
  622. 42:31And so then what happens when they break their leg?
  623. 42:34What happens when their car is hit by another car in total?
  624. 42:37Then they shake their fist to God and say, God, why did you do this to me?
  625. 42:41They would only say that if they had a bad theology.
  626. 42:44They had a good theology.
  627. 42:46They really understood God and they understood his relationship with us.
  628. 42:50That thought process wouldn't go through their mind.
  629. 42:53God, why me?
  630. 42:54Well, I'll tell you why.
  631. 42:56Because we live in a sinful fallen world and God wants to remind us that we live in a
  632. 43:01a sinful fallen world and we're sinful fallen people and we need Jesus.
  633. 43:05This is not our home and bad things happen and so what is the solution to the macro sin
  634. 43:13problem and the micro sin problem?
  635. 43:15Jesus.
  636. 43:16Amen.
  637. 43:17So what do we do when difficulty hits our life?
  638. 43:19We run to Jesus.
  639. 43:22What do we do when we don't have finances?
  640. 43:25We don't run to Jesus and say, God why don't you give me more money?
  641. 43:28No, we run and say, God, what are you trying to teach me?
  642. 43:31What do you try to do in my life?
  643. 43:33I just share this.
  644. 43:34I've learned this in my life.
  645. 43:36I've learned this in my life.
  646. 43:37That in times where bad things have happened,
  647. 43:40that I couldn't explain, I didn't understand.
  648. 43:42I've done like everybody else and I go to God and say,
  649. 43:44God, why?
  650. 43:45Why did you let this happen?
  651. 43:47Here's what I've learned.
  652. 43:48You will never get an answer to that question
  653. 43:51unless there's something very specific
  654. 43:54that God wants you to change, that you can change.
  655. 43:58So when you say, God, why does it happen to me?
  656. 44:00Well, there are times where God will give you the answer like Joshua when he's on his face after they got defeated at AI
  657. 44:06And he's going well, what is happening goes up dude sending a camp
  658. 44:10Yeah, what are you doing on your face like they're sending the camp get up deal with the sin
  659. 44:13It was something that he could deal with and then he should deal with and so he got an answer
  660. 44:18But most of the time when difficulty has come into your life. It's not because you did something bad
  661. 44:24Most of the time it's because we live in a fallen world and God is trying to remind us
  662. 44:28this is not our ultimate home and we're very vulnerable and we're very needy and we need Jesus.
  663. 44:34And so here's what we should pray instead of, God why are you doing this to me? Why did you let
  664. 44:39this happen? Because again if there's sin or there's some thing that we're supposed to change then yeah
  665. 44:45God will he'll make that real clear. It'll be abundant. We'll know the Holy Spirit will put it on our
  666. 44:50heart but in most cases this is a better prayer. God what do you want me to learn through this?
  667. 44:55What are you trying to do in me?
  668. 44:58Who do I need to become that I'm not right now?
  669. 45:02And is this a process that you're allowing in my life for me to get there?
  670. 45:07And what do you want me to do next?
  671. 45:10What's my next step?
  672. 45:12So here I am, I'm in a bad situation.
  673. 45:14Maybe you're trying to redirect me.
  674. 45:16Maybe you're trying to move me from where I am into a different thing.
  675. 45:21What do you want me to do next?
  676. 45:22to do next, then how am I supposed to learn to love other people through this?
  677. 45:27How do you want me to learn to love you more through this?
  678. 45:31Start praying those kinds of prayers.
  679. 45:33Those kinds of prayers you get some answers to.
  680. 45:35The why me?
  681. 45:36Well, you know, why not you?
  682. 45:39What were something special?
  683. 45:40Like God's not so allowed to let me have anything bad happen.
  684. 45:43Just everybody else in the world can experience suffering and difficulty.
  685. 45:46Just not me.
  686. 45:47Like, I don't know.
  687. 45:48It's got a bad theology.
  688. 45:49But that's what I've learned is that God wants us to grow.
  689. 45:54He wants us to mature.
  690. 45:55And so submit to that.
  691. 45:57Say, God, well, how do you want me to grow?
  692. 45:59Amen.
  693. 46:00What do you want me to change?
  694. 46:02What things in my life you want me to change right now?
  695. 46:04Those kinds of prayers get better answers.
  696. 46:06Mm, you know, listening to you,
  697. 46:09the reality just comes to the forefront
  698. 46:12that we may not state this verbally,
  699. 46:16but the life proclamation often is that
  700. 46:19We don't want to be reminded that we need Jesus.
  701. 46:21We don't know.
  702. 46:22We kind of like the idea of taking the cultural ethos,
  703. 46:29say we are enough, we can do it, I am all that I need.
  704. 46:34I look in the mirror, I see all that I need in the mirror
  705. 46:37and it's like, first of all, that's just a flat lie,
  706. 46:40but it's even a more insidious lie for believers
  707. 46:44to functionally embrace the religion of humanism.
  708. 46:49Yeah, because it is disconcerting to be reminded.
  709. 46:53Oh, wait, no, I do need Jesus.
  710. 46:56Well, I would like to trust Jesus
  711. 46:58with a million dollars a month, checking account.
  712. 47:00You know, I mean, I can still trust Jesus,
  713. 47:03but at the same point, something bad comes up in my life.
  714. 47:05I can pay for it.
  715. 47:06Yeah.
  716. 47:07You know, I want to trust Jesus,
  717. 47:09but kind of with this guarantee that,
  718. 47:11hey, if anything goes bad in my health,
  719. 47:13when you just fix it, right?
  720. 47:16And so the thing that happens is when we get
  721. 47:19that situation where it's out of our control. It's not within our capacity to fix it. We freak
  722. 47:25out because we want to be our own little God.
  723. 47:28Is your wang ladies and gentlemen, I'm telling you, you know, in a lot of ways much of which
  724. 47:37transpire on our own nation is God's invitation for his bride to grow up and more specifically
  725. 47:43to grow into being formed and shaped into Christ-likeness.
  726. 47:49But for real, not just saying it and singing cool songs and feeling good about ourselves
  727. 47:53because you have a perfect church attendance record, but being made Christ-like in much of
  728. 47:58that transpires in having the refining life capacity in which God is inviting us to renew
  729. 48:06our dependence upon him.
