0:44Now, I'm going to say this.
0:45I don't, you know, most of you have been listening
0:48and watching the show for a while.
0:49And so you know, I don't say this often.
0:53I don't think I've ever said it.
0:54And if I did, it hasn't been more than once or twice.
0:59Maybe three times.
1:00Maybe I'm not sure.
1:02But I want to encourage you to listen to this program.
1:06And if you are a parent or a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle, anybody who interacts with children,
1:19I want to encourage you to tune in to this program and to prepare yourself now after you have listened
1:25to share it with as many people as you can.
1:30Because what we're going to get into during today's show is going to be startling for some of you.
1:39It's going to be shocking for some of you is going to be
1:45confirmatory because some of you have been involved in situations
1:50where you've experienced things like this but you weren't necessarily aware of how prevalent
1:55this phenomenon is, and so is going to be heavy.
2:07But it's important for people to know this information.
2:10But before we get too far into that,
2:12at this very moment, many of you, if not most of you,
2:14are making your transition from your part-time jobs,
2:16where you generate an income,
2:18to your full-time jobs where you cultivate an outcome.
2:20And I want to challenge you and encourage you
2:23to do so with intentionality.
2:27Every day that passes, every minute as the clock takes down,
2:33and you know, it's so funny.
2:35Some people today don't even know how to read
2:36standard clocks because of the combination
2:41of the prevalence of digital timekeeping
2:44and the kind of dumbing down of our society.
2:50But we must work while it is done.
2:52We must take advantage of the time that God has given us
2:56to be about our father's business.
2:58Because what goes on in your house is far more important than what goes on in the White House.
3:03Far more important because you and I are directly accountable to God and responsible for what is immediately within our power.
3:14If you have been investing yourself in your homes, please do not get weary and well doing.
3:25I say this often and simply because it's true.
3:28the grace of God is sufficient and covers all manner of sin, but sin has varied
3:34consequences in time. One of the real sobering considerations that we must
3:42embrace is that we don't get to repeat our children's formative years. I've said
3:51before many of you know I have two teenagers in my home now. We have six
3:57children, Marie and I have six children, six and holding for now it looks like.
4:03But we're open to more having more we are
4:06It would be a great blessing from God. I'd be excited if we had another baby
4:11But I don't get to go back, you know my oldest my oldest boy is 14 now. I don't get to go back now and do
4:18Ages six through eight. I don't get to do that over again. I just don't want you to be in a position where you
4:25Sit and reflect and say man. I wish I would have I wish I would have now. I now I see where I missed it
4:32My hope in encouraging you daily is that we minimize the quantity of people that will have the,
4:39I wish I would have disposition.
4:41You know, and for those you're no longer in the stage, the life stage where you have young
4:47children in your home, man, take advantage of where you are now.
4:53One of the most enduring considerations we must have is that God is sovereign over when
4:58and where you obtain the revelation that you have.
5:01So my exhortations here are not for you to embrace any level of unbiblical, sinful condemnation,
5:08but to recognize, man, this is where I am now.
5:12So if you're in a place where you're like, man, I wasn't able to do it with my children,
5:15but I want to make sure my grandchildren haven't.
5:17Man, be about that life.
5:20Be about that life.
5:22Pray for your grands.
5:24Love on your grands.
5:25Love on your children.
5:26Pray for your children.
5:32Because the family is central to God's plan and we will never be able to remedy the deficiencies
5:41that abound in the whole.
5:43Politics is not going to do it.
5:45Politics is important.
5:46It has its role, but it's not going to replace what's supposed to happen in the family.
5:52Congressional legislation is not going to do it.
5:54It's important it has its role, but it's not going to replace the deficiencies that abound

6:02The church is not going to do it.
6:03This is what people need to understand.
6:05The scripture teaches that the primary one's responsible for the evangelization and the
6:10disciple, the discipling of the children or the parents.
6:15The church is not institutionally capable of doing what family is supposed to accomplish.
6:22It can help it's a support, but it's not a replacement.
6:28Let's be about our Father's businessman.
6:30To the Word of God we go, 1 Timothy, chapter 4.
6:341 Timothy, chapter 4.
6:36embrace what I'm saying, one of the things that needs to happen in our society, and
6:43that needs to happen among the believer, is that we must have a radical biblical
6:48recalibration across the board to say it differently that radical biblical
6:54recalibration is Romans 1212. Refuse it to be conformed to the world, but being
6:58transformed by the renewing of our minds. The primary vehicle of that
7:02transformation is the word of God illuminated to our hearts and minds by
7:06the spirit of God. We have to stop going along to get along, man, allowing the world to set
7:14the standard for us as to what we expect and as to what we embrace as normal. Because for
7:21the believer, peculiarity is supposed to be normal. The world is going to world, but
7:30the followers of the way, the followers of the way of Messiah should be peculiar. First
7:37Timothy chapter four, we have a source, or should say, an articulation of the type of
7:42radical recalibration as necessary. Paul and writing in Timothy who out by way of
7:49reminder in the book of Acts 14, 15, 16 where Paul first meets Timothy after
7:58Timothy's grandmother and his mother had invested in him as much as they could.
8:02God had an apostle Paul to come in and continue to pour in into disciple
8:09Timothy who ultimately becomes an elder in the Lord's church at Ephesus. But Paul
8:15says this to Timothy in verse 12, first Timothy chapter 4 verse 12, he says this,
8:22let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, in conduct, love, faith,
8:36and purity show yourself an example of those who believe. I'm going to read that again.

8:59For so long, we as human kind, and particularly in modern American society, and I would include
9:08in that professing believers, we have left room in our expectation for youthfulness to
9:15to be synonymous with full heartiness,
9:18to be synonymous with an ignorance and a foolishness,
9:25and a palpable evident lack of wisdom.
9:30But I would simply say, is that what the scripture says?
9:32Is should be normative?
9:34Now, I know what we experience,
9:38but the reality is we experience lots of things
9:40in the world that shouldn't be normative for the believer.
9:42In the world, hormunging is normative.
9:46Lusfulness is normative, greed is normative,
9:49covetousness is normative.
9:51That shouldn't be normative for the household of faith.
9:57In the world, youthfulness being synonymous
10:00in many areas, in many ways, with full-hardiness
10:03and a lack of wisdom and given to folly,
10:08those things are normative in the world,
10:09but should that be our expectation?
10:12In the household of faith, I would simply say no.
10:15Here you have the Apostle Paul saying to Timothy that Timothy should not make room for
10:22him within himself for people around him to look down upon him because of his youthfulness.
10:30Let no one look down upon you.
10:32Well, some translations will say, let no one despise your youthfulness, but rather,
10:39which means in contrast, in contrast to your youthfulness being conflated with a worldly
10:46expectation. Rather, you, youthful Christ follower, you should show yourself an example
10:56of what it looks like to be in Christ. Now, let's just pause and chew on that for a moment.
11:03How often do we consider that youthfulness for Christ followers should be conflated,
11:10it should be synonymous with, and this is an example of authentic Christ following. Is
11:16that our expectation, that our young ones will be examples of what authentic Christ following,
11:22what it looks like, or have we been conformed to the world's expectation?
11:31You know, it shouldn't be lost on us that whenever you've had major movements throughout
11:37history, they're always driven by younger people.
11:40Isn't that amazing?
11:45And often it is younger people who have a potency and a zeal, but with a lack of corporal wisdom
11:52that are often manipulated to use the potency and zeal
11:54that is really God-given, but use it for wicked purposes.
11:58Well, what if we, as the body of Christ,
12:01embrace what God says should be normative for younger people,
12:05but we are also invested in equipping our younger people
12:10with wisdom, to where we set the expectation
12:13within ourselves first, and we set the expectation
12:15within them that you, in your youthful state,
12:18you should live in such a way where you are an example
12:21of what authentic Christ following should look like.
12:24And then Paul didn't leave it to that general consideration.
12:27He said that you should be an example
12:29to those around you of what a believer looks like
12:31in areas like speech.
12:34Your speech should be indicative
12:35of what authentic Christ following should look like.
12:38I had a conversation with some young people just this week
12:41because you know there's a trend that's been going on
12:42for a little while of this kind of brain rot expression,
12:45six seven, six seven.
12:48You know, when there's a young believer,
12:49I just simply asked him,
12:50Why are you repeating that?
12:53Where did that come from?
12:55He said, you know, it's just fun and it's just cool.
12:57I said, well, would it be cool if I said one, two?
13:01Would it be cool if I said 13, 14?
13:03He said, no, that's cringey.
13:04I said, oh, it's cringey.
13:06What makes it cringey?
13:08And then I asked this question,
13:09who sets the standard for what is cool and what is cringey?
13:15See you, young brother,
13:17and if someone was a young man, I said,
13:18God has given you the capacity and the personality
13:21and the influence with your peers
13:23where you are a leader.
13:25You shouldn't be limited to following trends.
13:28God has put you in a position where you lead in such a way,
13:30and the way you lead will actually become
13:32trend setting within your peer group.
13:35And I brought him to this scripture.
13:37I said, you should be an example of those who believe
13:40starting with how you use your words.
13:43You could use your words for foolhardy, useless banter,
13:51but what you ultimately end up doing is you reduce
13:53the potency of your witness.
13:55so that when you speak, people have an expectation that its fulllessness is going to come out
14:00as opposed to something substantive.
14:02But if you reserve your words for substantive engagement, you know, carry it, walk softly,
14:06but carry a big stick, then when you open your mouth, you'll be regarded with a bit more
14:10gravity.
14:12In your youthfulness, verse 12 goes on, that you can be an example of those who are authentic
14:18Christ followers in your conduct, when you conduct yourself, your behavior, in your love,
14:25in your faith, in your purity.
14:29Guys, we must have a radical biblical recalibration
14:33because the biblical expectation is that Christ followers
14:38who are youthful, they are to be examples
14:42to what authentic Christ following looks like
14:44in speech and conduct and love and faith and in purity.
14:49Purity is not merely abstaining.
14:52Purity drives toward the heart condition
14:55as we conduct ourselves with Holy Spirit and do self-control.

15:10The biggest thing the government was controlling and making sure of is that God's name was not
15:15known in our country.

15:44Guys, I am delighted to have on the program someone with me.

16:09I want to introduce my guest.
16:13Guest who is the founder and president of Paradigm Shift, which Paradigm Shift training and consulting,
16:21which equips healthcare workers with skills-based training to be able to identify human trafficking
16:26and exploitation.
16:27She has a wide range of experience in pediatric and forensic nursing and has taught as an adjunct
16:32professor for several universities.
16:35She previously managed the SANE program at Children's Mercy, Kansas City, where she performed
16:41or reviewed over 1,500 pediatric forensic exams.
16:44Many of them trafficked cases.
16:46She communicated with law enforcement, child protective services, and a large multidisciplinary
16:50team as well as educated hundreds of staff members on relevant topics concerning sexual
16:55violence.
16:56She also has served as an expert witness for the prosecution doing trials for victims of
17:01sexual assault.
17:02And for those who may not be aware, saying S-A-N-E is an acronym for sexual assault nurse
17:07examiner.
17:08And my guest right now, the founder and president of Paradigm Shift, is Heidi Olson.
17:15Heidi, thank you so much for joining me on the program.
17:18Absolutely my pleasure.
17:20Thanks for having me.
17:21Oh, I mean this with everything in me.
17:24The pleasure is truly mine.
17:26of the most important aspects of who you are to me as you're coming on the program is that
17:32you're a sister in Christ and you have dedicated yourself to serving our Lord and exalting him
17:38through your professional engagement.
17:40So I personally appreciate that and I know our audience does as well.
17:44Thank you so much for that.
17:45I guess I'd like to start it.
17:47We can start here.
17:48Would you just share a little bit about how the Lord drew you to himself to become a Christ
17:52follower?
17:53I was blessed to grow up in a home where both of my parents were Christian.
17:58So I heard about Jesus and the gospel my whole life.
18:03I would say probably I really believed it when I was probably around five.
18:10And you know, as life goes, it's never just this straightforward journey.
18:16So I grew up absolutely going to church.
18:19I went to a Christian school.
18:21So I knew all of the things about the Bible.
18:25I believed in Jesus, but life is not that simple,
18:29straight forward.
18:30So I experienced quite a bit of trauma when I was in college.
18:35And the way the church handled that was so deeply painful
18:40and traumatizing.
18:42I did not know how to reconcile those two things.
18:44So here at the age of two, I'm like,
18:46I've experienced all this pain,
18:48all of these things that I don't know how to make sense of.
18:50and I'm not getting any support from my community.
18:54Why do you live with the tension of those two things?
18:56And so in my 20s, I walked away from church
18:59of just saying it's too painful.
19:01It's hard to follow a God where everyone who's believing
19:06in Him did not protect me, did not stand up for me,
19:09did not see the victimization that was happening
19:12and provide love and support and advocacy.
19:15And so I just lived really a lot of recklessness
19:19that I just wanna know about.
19:20So I still believe in Jesus, but I don't know what it looks like
19:23for these two things to come back together.
19:25And so until my early 30s that I started going to therapy,
19:30I started to really dig in and do that deep work of healing.
19:35And honestly, healing prayer has been a game changer for me
19:39of having these experiences with Jesus
19:41where he's like, I never left you.
19:43I hate that those things happen to you.
19:45I love you.
19:46I delight in you that it's like the healing
19:48and the transformation started to take place.
19:51So now I'm in a much better place
19:53where I feel like I can reconcile the two,
19:55which is hard, right?
19:56Where bad things happen and hard things happen.
19:59And God is still good and he still loves us.
20:02And like he still is fighting for us.
20:06And so it's taken a lot of work
20:09and it's been sort of this rollercoaster for journey.
20:11You know, it would be a lie for me to say,
20:13it's just been this straightforward, easy thing.
20:16but I think it has given my faith a lot of depth
20:20and a lot of authenticity.
20:23It's like I've wrestled, I've struggled, I've sinned,
20:25I've messed up, I've screamed at God,
20:29to get to this point of like,
20:30I feel so much more connected to him
20:33and much more connected to Christian community.
20:37And I want that and I crave that.
20:38And I think it's been really validating
20:43and redemptive to see the work
20:45that he's done over the last decade.
20:47Mm, mm, wow.
20:50And you have various credentials.
20:51You are an unregistered nurse.
20:54You have an MSN, a CPN, as I mentioned,
20:56you're a SANE nurse as well.
20:58How has those experiences in your journey
21:03contributed toward you pursuing
21:05the professional courses you pursued?
21:08Yeah, that's such a great question.
21:10So, you know, the trauma I experienced in college
21:12was I was sexually assaulted repeatedly
21:17by a fellow college student who went to my church.
21:19And so the first time I had ever heard
21:22of a forensic nurse or a same nurse was
21:24after I disclosed an assault.
21:27And it was detectives talking to me about,
21:31you can go see the nurse at the hospital
21:33who would collect evidence.
21:34And so of course, sort of my first introduction
21:38to all this was my own experience.
21:40So as much as I talk about working with victims
21:44and practicing as a forensic nurse,
21:46I also know what it feels like to be in that position
21:48where you're having to walk through the criminal justice
21:50system and all of the nuances that have been there.
21:54And so of course that deeply impacted my desire
21:57to want to go into this field to say,
21:59can I sit with someone when they've experienced
22:03one of the most painful things they could ever experience
22:06and just hold space for them and validate
22:09and provide kindness and listen.
22:12You know, I can't fix it.
22:14It's not my job to fix it.
22:15I can't necessarily make it better,
22:17but I can hold space and say,
22:18I'm so sorry to happen to you.
22:20You know, this is not your fault.
22:22And I think that really matters.
22:23Mm.
22:25It absolutely does matter.
22:27And our audience here knows,
22:28and I told you before we came on the air
22:31that I spent a decade as a major felony prosecutor.
22:34So I have been there with victims
22:37who I've met unfortunately
22:39at the stage of where either a case has been filed and presented for grand jury indictment
22:43all the way up through trial.
22:46And I've also been there on the other side of it post trial to see really how you're
22:53able to how those who suffered victimization in these areas put their lives together thereafter.
23:01The healing effect of having closure, having an offender brought to justice and things of
23:06that nature.
23:08For those who are not aware, and they've made a return rate kit, but they have no clue
23:12what it is, what is a SANE nurse or a sexual assault nurse examiner?
23:17Yeah, I think most people are not aware of this type of nursing, which is a good thing,
23:23because you probably, if you are aware, it's either you and I, we've worked in this field,
23:27or you have had to encounter a forensic nurse because we've been experiencing some type of
23:33violence or your family member has.
23:35But essentially we are a very unique type of nurse where we're trying to collect evidence
23:41from a victim after they've experienced violence.
23:44So I was especially trying to take care of kids who had experienced sexual assault.
23:48So when a child would come into the hospital, the thought process behind it is within a certain
23:54timeframe, a perpetrator is always going to leave some type of DNA on a victim.
23:59So whether that's skin cells, hair cells, saliva, semen, there's likely going to be some evidence
24:05you know, if they were touching, assaulting, kind of whatever had happened during the assault,
24:11there will be some type of DNA they left behind. So essentially, I'm looking at a child's body
24:17first and foremost, you know, kind of making sure they're healthy. Do they have medical injuries? Do
24:22they have sexually transmitted infections? Do they have things we need to address as a fallout
24:26from this assault? But also, is there evidence we can collect? So maybe we're taking their clothing,
24:31we might be swabbing certain areas of their bodies. Of course, because we're talking about
24:35a sexual assault, it's usually involving the genitals. So it's a it can be an
24:40embarrassing, you know, kind of invasive feeling exam in the sense that you
24:44have stranger who is looking at this very intimate part of you right after
24:48this trauma has happened. So it's, you know, I can understand it can be a really
24:53difficult thing to walk through for a victim. And then of course they can say
24:59no to any of it. I would never force, you know, anything that would make someone
25:02uncomfortable or feel re-traumatized. But really we're looking at someone holistic, but you know,
25:07how are they doing mentally after a sexual assault? What resources do they need? How can we support them?
25:13You know, how is their body medically doing, you know, physically and then evidence-wise? What can
25:18we collect? So we send all the evidence to law enforcement and then, you know, on the end of
25:23hospital we're taking care of the medical piece of things. And you are often in that regard. You
25:30later in many cases could very likely end up testifying at trial to what you discovered
25:36during the same examination.
25:38I've had the unfortunate experience of having to do that numerous times in my life and career.
25:44But you mentioned that you specifically were trained and practiced in the area dealing with
25:51adolescent victims, child victims of sexual assault.
25:54In the process of you doing that, I would say that the Lord giving you a discerning heart
26:00in the spirit of God operating in you for discernment,
26:02you noticed something, a trend that kind of started
26:05to develop in your practice.
26:07Would you just share a bit of that with the audience here?
26:11Yeah, so I was always being trained as a forensic nurse.
26:15You know, we talked about different types of perpetrators.
26:18And I think in my head, naively, I had this stereotype of,
26:22oh, I'm taking care of kids who have experienced sexual assault.
26:26All the perpetrators are gonna be adults
26:28and the stereotype of like,
26:29It's gonna be some creepy old man who, you know, like lives in a basement and lures kids down there with, you know, kittens and candy or whatever, you know, sort of the stereotype we have.
26:38But that was not the case. So we, where I was working at the time, we would write down the perpetrators ages just to keep for our database, you know, see what trends were happening.
26:48And that will be asked conveyed to you by the victim themselves, right?
26:51Correct. Yes. Or their families. They were too.
26:53Or their families.
26:54Okay.
26:55And you know, of course we didn't always know that information, but most of the time we did.
26:58And you were documented? Yes, we would document it. We put it in an electronic database. So I'm
27:05documenting case after case where the perpetrator is not a 60 year old, the perpetrator is 11.
27:12They're 12. They're 13. Over and over. And I think that where the light bulbs really went off in my
27:18brain, I was maybe a few months off of orientation. I was taking care of a five year old and she had
27:25had been sexually assaulted by her 12-year-old brother.
27:28And their dad had walked in and seen it.
27:30So there was no question of what had happened.
27:34Of course, the parents were so distraught
27:36as they should be.
27:38You know, this is an incredibly traumatic situation
27:40for everyone.
27:41And I remember the mom just trying to verbally process,
27:45like, how did this happen?
27:46Why would our 12-year-old do this?
27:48And she looked at me and said, you know,
27:50we have found violent pornography on his phone.
27:53you know, several times of the last few months and he's really changed.
27:56He's isolating.
27:57He doesn't want to play soccer anymore.
28:00He doesn't want to do his homework.
28:01He just goes in his room and shuts the door.
28:03Do you think these things are related?
28:05And it was just like in my brain like thing, like of course, here you have this kid who
28:10is showing signs of problematic pornies, who's probably been watching this so frequently.
28:17Now he wants to act out the thing that his brain has seen over and over and over again.
28:22And he is on his sister because this is sort of a quote unquote easy target, right?
28:27She's she's there, she's younger. You can, you know, basically easy opportunity for him to act
28:33out the things that he's seeing and dad walks in and sees it. And so I think for me, I just thought
28:39how often is pornography insulting these young kids that were seeing that are sexually
28:45salting each other? And so what I found is it's almost all the time. I mean, at this point in time,
28:52There's multiple reasons why a child's gonna act out with problematic sexual behavior, but in today's day and age
28:58pornography is almost always playing a role in some way shape or form. Maybe this child has their own
29:05trauma history or attachment pain or
29:09dysfunctional family or whatever, maybe and
29:11they're looking at pornography over and over and over again, and it's just like this perfect storm of
29:17Now I'm gonna act out the thing that I've spent months fantasizing about
29:20You know, I mentioned to you before we came on the air that it was it's jolted for most
29:31people to learn in because I I didn't know this before I was a major felony prosecutor,
29:37but the phenomenon of of of of sexually abused perpetrated by a stranger is extremely rare.
29:44The most often occurrence is that it is a known person, a family member, a trusted family
29:51I remember and like you mentioned, I have noticed an uptick.
29:55I had noticed and this was, I came in, in 2016.
29:58So from 2006 to 2016, I noticed that the increasing phenomenon
30:05of exactly what you just described, children abusing other children.
30:09And you have kind of the powder keg often where you have early pornography exposure,
30:16sometimes combined with a child themselves being abused.
30:20And then they in turn become abusers.
30:23What is it, and we're gonna have a couple minutes left
30:26before about maybe a minute and a half
30:28before we come to this first break,
30:30what is it that you think parents and adults need to be aware
30:35of concerning childhood exposure to pornography?
30:38I know the younger, a kid is exposed to porn
30:41the more likely they will be a lifelong addict.
30:43And so the porn industry has an incentive
30:45to expose your kids to porn at an early age.
30:47They want customers for the rest of their life.
30:50So we know they're intentionally exposing kids to porn.
30:53Kids are too quick away from porn at any given time
30:56if they are online.
30:57And so any kid could be exposed to it at any time.
31:01This is, I think a lot of parents think, not my kid.
31:04Absolutely not.
31:06Like every parent is gonna be thinking,
31:08my kid is probably gonna say porn,
31:10how do we have conversations around it?
31:12If they have a screen, there's a high likelihood
31:15they will see it.
31:16And we live in such a time period,
31:18we just had a situation to where here at AFA,
31:22we had a two year dialogue, frankly,
31:24with Apple concerning their default settings
31:29or their devices with the parental controls,
31:31that if the device knew the child was 13 or under,
31:36it would block certain pornography materials
31:38through iMessages, but 14 and up, man, no problem.
31:42And we were like, Apple, why don't you apply this
31:44to all minors and it is honestly, they wouldn't say this,
31:49but panographers wanna try to hook,
31:53if you were like a drug dealer,
31:54hook children early on because as you mentioned,
31:57they want lifelong customers.
31:59But what we as a society may not recognize
32:01is that this skews, development, excuse,
32:05it skews perspective and it changes the way
32:08people view what we would call normal behavior.
32:11When we come back from this break,
32:13I want you to describe, I know there's an instance you described, where a young lady thought abusive
32:19behavior was just her abuser trying to be sexy.
32:22Let's talk about that when we come back on the break.

33:45Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner, Abraham Hamilton.
33:47The third here, my guest is
33:49Heidi Olson, founder and president of paradigm shift training and consulting, who has a bevy
33:56of medical professional credentials, including the distinction of having a decade of experience
34:03as a sexual assault nurse examiner.
34:05If you are a young person listening to the show, you probably should have done it already
34:09by now, but please let your parents know what we're talking about and let them give you guidance
34:14and instruction as to whether or not this is an episode that you should tune in tune into
34:19Before we went to the break,
34:20Heidi, I asked the question because I know
34:23you've had an experience with one of the victims
34:28of abuse who you were helping.
34:30And the exposure, I would say the digital exposure
34:35and the experience is really distorted reality
34:39for this young lady, to where she conflated abuse
34:44with just her abuse efforts to be more exciting.
34:47Would you speak to that for a moment, please?
34:50Yeah, I think what's important for adults to know
34:54is that the porn that kids are seeing online
34:57is not like Playboy from 30 or 40 years ago.
35:00And that wasn't acceptable, let's be clear.
35:02That was wicked in and of itself.
35:07But now it's, you know, they've gone from shooting layups
35:10to alley-oop slam dunking with this despicable,
35:14insidious, frankly demonic stuff that the smut
35:17they're putting out there, but go ahead, please go ahead.
35:19Yes, no, you're exactly right.
35:21And so they're watching sexual violence.
35:24The vast majority of pornography online is extremely violent
35:28and very, very degrading, especially towards women.
35:31So what girls are seeing when they're watching porn
35:35and thinking, oh, this is how I have sex.
35:37This is what's expected of me.
35:38Is there watching women who are being strangled?
35:41They're watching women who are being spit on,
35:43called names that multiple men are penetrating?
35:46And this is what our young tween teen girls are learning.
35:50This is how I should enjoy sex.
35:52And of course for boys, this is how I have sex.
35:55I should be violent.
35:56Girls want this.
35:58So you can see how it's creating
35:59really confusing sexual landscape for them.
36:02So I took care of a 15 year old.
36:05She had a horrendous genital injury.
36:08It was so bad.
36:09She could barely sit down.
36:11I mean, it was awful.
36:13I won't go into graphic details,
36:14but an immense amount of violence was behind that.
36:18Her perpetrator was a 15 year old boy from school.
36:21And so as I was talking to her about this assault,
36:24I was asking her, did he put his hands around your throat?
36:27Did he strangle you?
36:29Because that's something I wanna know
36:30with all my patients for medical reasons,
36:32but also to kind of talk through,
36:34like, are you okay or is this another charge?
36:38Like the criminal action, right?
36:40So I'm asking her, did he put his hands around your throat?
36:43And she was like, yeah, but I think he was trying to be sexy.
36:47And it just made me pause of like, oh, you don't even realize
36:51that this is a part of the assault.
36:54Because in your head, this is for play or whatever
36:57it should be because you're seeing it
36:59and quarant all the time.
37:00That strangulation is a normal sex act that everybody does.
37:04And it's not a big deal.
37:05It's how we turn each other on instead of strangulation
37:09can kill you.
37:10It can cause brain damage.
37:11It's scary.
37:12It's not supposed to be a part of this thing.
37:15And so, you know, I think to that,
37:18wait, I've seen so many instances
37:21where especially with girls,
37:23what porn is teaching them is self exploitation
37:26is completely normal and fine.
37:29When you turn 18, you should be the porn star.
37:32You should go and only fans and you should create porn
37:35because you're watching it all the time.
37:38It's normal.
37:39There's all these influencers who do it.
37:41I like this is how you can make millions of dollars.
37:44And so I would say that's the trend of not only is violence normal,
37:48selling your body is totally normal and acceptable as well.
37:53And I know for many of you hearing this, this is jolting because this is not the
37:58world that you live in, but I'm telling you, we need to understand that this is
38:05the world that many of our young people are living in.
38:07and the egregious, the egregiousness of the violence
38:14and of the abuse and the normalization of it
38:20is one aspect of the reality.
38:21But can you envision that these people
38:25are the ones who will become the lawyers
38:28and doctors and judges and how having this lack of,
38:34I started off the scripture in 1 Peter 4
38:36that we, especially as the body of Christ, that we should not have an acceptance capacity
38:44for things that the Bible says should not be tolerated.
38:48Like youthfulness does not have to be synonymous with the types of things that we experience
38:56prevalently.
38:57Paul told Timothy that you can be an example to the believer in purity, in purity.
39:05And so it's vitally important that we understand that this is the type of stuff that we're confronting.
39:11Some people have this mindset that where it is exclusively a young males who are consuming
39:16pornography.
39:17But the data shows that increasing amounts of females, especially younger females, are consuming
39:23pornography at high rates similar to the young boys.
39:29Is that an accurate description and depiction of the data that you've come across?
39:33Yes, it is absolutely.
39:36And I think that a huge piece of it
39:39is because pornography is so prevalent
39:42and so normalized with kids today
39:44that there isn't this, I think for other generations,
39:48there was this shame or we know we're not supposed to look at it.
39:53I feel like those layers are just going away
39:55with younger generations where it's like,
39:57everyone does it, everyone talks about it.
39:59We're once showing it to each other.
40:01It feels like they think it's not a big deal.
40:04And it becomes sort of this joke of like,
40:06we all look at it, we all know these trends.
40:08This is how we learn about sex.
40:11And I will even say, I've talked to kids who are going
40:14I've been conservative Christian homes.
40:16And I will ask them things like,
40:18the Bob House is a house full of girls.
40:21They all live in Florida together.
40:23They're young like 19 to 24.
40:25The what house?
40:26I don't think I heard you clearly.
40:27The what house?
40:28The OP.
40:29Oh, Bob House, okay.
40:31They all live together in this house.
40:34They all create pornography on only fans.
40:38Oh, wow.
40:38And on social media, so of course, they can't show their explicit porn on social media,
40:43but they have, especially where they market themselves.
40:46You know, on TikTok and Instagram, basically saying,
40:48look at us flying on private jets and we make millions of dollars and our life is so glamorous.
40:53These girls have a combined 90 million followers on social media.
41:00Wow.
41:01put a lot of them are teenagers. So I've asked, it's growing up in
41:05their concerned Christian homes. Do you know what the bot
41:07fusses and they all have said yes, because it's so normal, right?
41:13And within their culture and their generation of like, we joke
41:16about it, we talk about it, we use that term with each other, we
41:18call each other, you know, you're a bot. It's a porn term. And
41:22so I think that parents don't even realize like how ingrained
41:26all things pornography are becoming with this generation.
41:29You know, I tend to study and do a lot of research.
41:33I'd never heard of that until you just mentioned it.
41:36I'd never heard of the Bob House until you just said that.
41:41Wow.
41:46It's heartbreaking for me to consider
41:48because I'm thinking about cases that I've handled
41:50and I'm thinking about people that I've encountered
41:52and listening to what you're sharing.
41:55It is a full on,
41:59you wanna talk about a pandemic.
42:00It's a full-on pandemic.
42:02And you know often say what goes on in your house
42:03is far more important than what goes on in the White House.
42:06Guys, we need to be actively engaged in our homes.
42:10There's so many circumstances where you can have a child
42:13who grows up, as you mentioned,
42:14a Christian conservative family.
42:16And they don't access it at home, but they get to school.
42:19And guess what the peers are showing them?
42:20As cool, on the buses, on the way to school.
42:24And so what are some things that you would say
42:28that parents need to do proactively to try to protect
42:34protect our children from these types
42:35of insidious influences.
42:37Yeah, that is such a great question.
42:40I know all of this goes incredibly overwhelming
42:44and sometimes hopeless, so I want to instill hope
42:48for parents that just having simple conversations
42:52can make all the difference in the world.
42:54I think for like my generation and probably generations
42:57before me parents did not really talk to us about sex.
43:01Like you maybe got one very awkward conversation
43:04and that was it or was just like don't do it.
43:07And it was it, but there wasn't this actual like here
43:11are all the things you need to know.
43:12And it's an open door and I want to have healthy dialogue
43:15and I want you to really understand God's intent
43:17behind this for many of my peers.
43:21That's not their experience.
43:23And so I think the same thing is happening with form
43:25where we're like, just don't look at it.
43:27maybe that's the conversation that is being fed,
43:29but it's not, okay, you're probably gonna see it.
43:32Let's talk about it.
43:34Please come talk to me if you see it.
43:35I will not be mad at you.
43:37We don't need to bring shame into this.
43:39It's why is this not good for our hearts and our brains?
43:43And you deserve better than to be pulled
43:45into this world of pornography.
43:47And, you know, I think really having to short little
43:53conversations all the time about it,
43:55where there's safety being created for kids,
43:58that's gonna create that resilience where,
44:00okay, maybe someone at school showed me something,
44:02when I walked away, and then I went home
44:04and told mom and dad, hey, this person showed me
44:06this thing, can we process it?
44:07You know, they're not the best case scenario,
44:09and I believe that can happen if we can start
44:12to have those conversations.
44:13But I think when there's this sort of feeling of fear
44:16behind it of like, don't look at it,
44:18and if you do your horrible person,
44:19you know, that's the message of getting sent.
44:21Well, of course the kids never gonna say anything,
44:23and they're gonna try and navigate alone,
44:26which is really challenging.
44:27When you're eight years old and you just watch someone,
44:29be sexually assaulted on a screen.
44:31So I think those little touch points just over
44:34and over and creating safety is a really big deal.
44:39Now you made a transition professionally
44:42from your nursing practice
44:46into now leading a paradigm shift training and consulting.
44:50What is paradigm shift?
44:53Yeah, so I created a business about four years ago
44:57and it was really out of this need of seeing the amount
45:01of patients we were encountering who were experiencing
45:05human trafficking, exploitation, being groomed online,
45:09experiencing problematic porn use.
45:11I mean, all the things that we're talking about,
45:13often all these things just go hand in hand in hand
45:16and that healthcare workers have an incredible opportunity
45:19to have conversations to intervene,
45:22to instill healthy education to patients
45:27about pornography and all these different things.
45:29We can do that as healthcare workers.
45:31And it doesn't really exist in most hospitals.
45:34No one's talking about this.
45:35No one's connecting the dots.
45:37And so I think for me,
45:38I saw what an amazing difference it made
45:40within the program that I was leading.
45:41And I wanted to step out and start to do that
45:43with other healthcare workers.
45:44So I started my business, yeah, about four years ago,
45:49and I have been getting to teach internationally, actually,
45:53in all over the United States.
45:54And I've had some really incredible opportunities
45:57from presenting at the United Nations to I wrote in a Mika
46:00Supreme Court that was submitted last year.
46:05And so I've gotten to do incredible things around, you know,
46:08raising awareness on how pornography is harming kids.
46:11You know, I often reflect on here on the show that the family
46:18is the first institution that God established,
46:21the first human institution,
46:22the first command that God gave to mankind
46:24was delivered within the familial context.
46:27And the family is the first institution
46:28with a marriage at the center
46:30because the family is central to God's plan
46:33for establishing his kingdom multigenerationally
46:35in the hearts and minds of people.
46:37I don't think there is an appropriate understanding
46:40of just how significant the family is,
46:45and specifically the parent-child relationship
46:48is to God. And the church's purpose based on Ephesians 4 is to equip the saints for the
46:54works of ministry. Sometimes we think what God requires in ministry that it has to be the
46:58professional pastor and all of this, but the reality is that the saints of God are called
47:04to do the work of God and that families need to be empowered to take the initiative and
47:09the leadership in shaping the hearts and minds of our own children. And one of the major
47:16areas that this is happening is with the demonic perversion of human sexuality and identity.
47:23And what we need to recognize is that this is not merely the product of modernity. This is not
47:30merely the feature of technological innovation that frankly there is a demonic attack to destroy
47:39the kingdom of God. That's what Satan's in that's what his objective is. We know he won't prevail,
47:43But that's what he's trying to do, but he's seeking to do so
47:47by destroying children in
47:49Perverting their formation and development. Do you think that is an accurate assessment based on your experience and interactions?
47:57Absolutely. Yes, it absolutely is. I mean even if you talk to adults in their 30s 40s 50s
48:04There are so many adults who struggle with porn addiction and to see the ways that it has destroyed their marriages their lives their
48:12intimacy
48:13their ability to move through the world in healthy ways.
48:16And to just, that's just being astronomically
48:20perpetuated on our kids, right?
48:23These are people who grew up maybe with, like we said,
48:25Playboy that have still developed addictions over time.
48:28Imagine being a seven, eight year old
48:30who was exposed to hardcore porn,
48:32where it's an endless amount.
48:34You can never watch all the porn that exists in the world.
48:36There's so much content to a developing brain.
48:40It feels systematic, it feels evil,
48:42If it's very targeted, I absolutely believe there's a demonic component to all of this.
