  10. 0:28And now, The Hamilton Corner.
  11. 0:33Well, good evening America.
  12. 0:34Alex McFarland here.
  13. 0:36Welcome to the American Family Radio Network, The Hamilton
  14. 0:39Corner.
  15. 0:40It's my privilege tonight to be sitting in for attorney, author,
  16. 0:43pastor, Abe Hamilton III.
  17. 0:45And we've got a great show.
  18. 0:47And we're going to talk about apologetics in just a moment.
  19. 0:51But in the second half of the show,
  20. 0:53we're going to talk with Barry McGuire about evangelism.
  21. 0:57If you're a car person, you've seen
  22. 0:59Maguire's car wax and Barry Maguire, that's his family that makes the world's most sought-after car wax.
  23. 1:08He's a friend we see him just every year at NRB and later on in the show if you've ever wanted to know
  24. 1:15how to share the gospel, how to effectively witness the gospel to somebody else, you'll hear from one
  25. 1:21of the best Barry Maguire. But right now we're going to bring on a friend and a colleague named
  26. 1:26Frank Figueroa. Frank is with reasons for hope. He's one of the best apologetic speakers that I've
  27. 1:32heard and by God's grace I've worked with everybody, Lee Strobel, Josh McDowell, you name it. But apologetics
  28. 1:41is in the news. In fact, a Canadian apologist Wesley Huff this week is on the Joe Rogan podcast and
  29. 1:51one of the world's biggest podcasts and it's fascinating because a lot of Christian scholars like
  30. 1:57our friend J. Warner Wallace who is a Los Angeles homicide detective became a Christian in his 50s
  31. 2:04after decades of atheism. A lot of people are realizing that whether it's the existence of God,
  32. 2:11the trustworthiness of the Bible, or the resurrection of Jesus, the evidence is compelling. One of the
  33. 2:18For the reasons I'm so excited for you to meet Frank Figueroa is because he's part of
  34. 2:22our summer camp experience and listen for the young people in your lives.
  35. 2:27EquipRetreat.org.
  36. 2:29EquipRetreat.org.
  37. 2:31That is the website for our seven summer youth camps.
  38. 2:35We've been doing this for many years, partnering with reasons for hope.
  39. 2:39Carl Kirby is fantastic.
  40. 2:41We'll talk about that.
  41. 2:42But right now, what an honor.
  42. 2:44I've just come to appreciate this guy so much.
  43. 2:47He's brilliant, he's passionate about the gospel, and he's a great defender of the Christian
  44. 2:52faith.
  45. 2:53Frank Figueroa, welcome to the American Family Radio Network.
  46. 2:58Aloha, and thank you so much for having me.
  47. 3:01Aloha.
  48. 3:02Now, that's a very interesting word choice.
  49. 3:06Tell us about it, Frank.
  50. 3:08Well, I'm from Hawaii, born and raised, born here in 69, and served in many capacities,
  51. 3:17youth pastor, senior pastor, worship pastor, so forth, so on.
  52. 3:23And been doing that for all of, well, since I got saved at age 16.
  53. 3:29And for the past two and a half years,
  54. 3:31I've had the privilege of serving with reasons for hope
  55. 3:33where I travel all over the country,
  56. 3:35speaking on basic Christian apologetics.
  57. 3:38So Aloha has a little bit of a sweet sound right now
  58. 3:42because we're actually in Hawaii
  59. 3:44and just got through running a conference here
  60. 3:49at Calvary Chapel Pearl Harbor,
  61. 3:50in which we involved several churches,
  62. 3:52but it was called the
  63. 3:54Ignite, not, sorry,
  64. 3:58Impact Conference.
  65. 3:59And we were here and Carl Kirby was here along with me,
  66. 4:03Dr. Juan Valdez, a bunch of people,
  67. 4:05so it was a great, great time.
  68. 4:07Yeah, well, I'm back east where we've had snow and ice
  69. 4:10and 18 degree temperatures.
  70. 4:12So, you know, the 10th commandment is thou shalt not covet,
  71. 4:16but in a way, I'm kind of wishing I was there with you, Frank,
  72. 4:20but anyway, I'm glad you're in that beautiful part
  73. 4:23of God's creation, Hawaii.
  74. 4:26Yes, my wife and I went for a walk this morning
  75. 4:29on the beach in 75 degree weather
  76. 4:31and even got to hang out with the Hawaiian monk seal
  77. 4:33for a little bit, so just no place quite like it.
  78. 4:37Well, God bless you.
  79. 4:39Let me ask you this, apologetics,
  80. 4:41for those who don't know, what is apologetics?
  81. 4:45Well, we get the word apologetics
  82. 4:47from the Greek word apologia found in 1 Peter 3.15,
  83. 4:52which means to give a reason why we believe what we believe.
  84. 4:56So Christian apologetics, therefore,
  85. 4:59is to explain why we believe what the word of God says.
  86. 5:04And we have the word of God as authoritative and true,
  87. 5:09But since a lot of people struggle to accept it
  88. 5:12as authoritative and true,
  89. 5:14we use Christian apologetics to be able to share with them
  90. 5:17the rationalized way to see the word of God
  91. 5:22so that they can understand it.
  92. 5:23And then ultimately come to know Christ as we know Him,
  93. 5:27not only by faith, but also by the things
  94. 5:29that we see in the world around us.
  95. 5:31So apologetics is like the evidence for Christianity, right?
  96. 5:37Yes, Jesus even said, he said at times,
  97. 5:42consider the lilies of the field or consider the birds.
  98. 5:47So he had no problem with us looking at the world around us
  99. 5:51and being able to see what we see,
  100. 5:54compare that with what scripture says
  101. 5:56and understand that what God has said is true in reality
  102. 6:01as much as it is in writ in the Holy Scriptures.
  103. 6:04How relevant, in your opinion, Frank, how relevant is apologetics for the Church of the
  104. 6:1221st century?
  105. 6:14I think it's very relevant.
  106. 6:16I think we have lost our way.
  107. 6:19And what I mean by that is someone who has been a pastor for 25 years, we have been taught
  108. 6:25what to believe in the Church.
  109. 6:28You should believe in this and believe in that.
  110. 6:30But we haven't really been emphasized why we're supposed to believe it.
  111. 6:35And so the what's the doctrines are very important.
  112. 6:40But in order to solidify it in the mind,
  113. 6:43having a good why to explain our what not only helps it to make sense to us and brings a congruence
  114. 6:51between what we see and what we think,
  115. 6:53but it also helps us to share our faith with people who don't necessarily believe.
  116. 6:57And I think it's really important and sorely lacking in a lot of the church today.
  117. 7:04Well, let's talk about young people a little bit because it's almost like I get this every other day.
  118. 7:11It used to be maybe half a dozen times a year, but now it's almost like three or four times a week.
  119. 7:17People email us or write or they call into our radio shows and they'll say,
  120. 7:22Please help us. My son or my daughter, they were raised in church, went to youth group.
  121. 7:29Maybe as a teenager, made a profession of faith. My son came home from college, tells me he's an
  122. 7:34atheist. Oh my goodness, what do we do? Frank, why is the falling away rate among people, let's say
  123. 7:4435 and younger. Why has that become such an epidemic in these days? Do you think?
  124. 7:52I go back to the idea that we have taught them what they're supposed to believe, but not why
  125. 8:00they're supposed to believe it. I believe that a good portion of the young people today feel that
  126. 8:08they have been left out of understanding the why, because parents just tell them, well,
  127. 8:14you need to believe this or the church has told them, you need to believe that. But we have turned
  128. 8:19off their critical thinking skills so that they can start understanding things and believing them
  129. 8:24for themselves. And so critical thinking is a key to understanding the gospel and they need to
  130. 8:34come to their own conclusions. Within our Dr. Juan Valdez's book, he clearly states that they are
  131. 8:44save to something but not necessarily to the Christian faith.
  132. 8:48What I mean by that is they have a faith that they've come up
  133. 8:52within their own minds or it's their parents' faith
  134. 8:54or it's a church's faith, but it's not the true Christian faith.
  135. 8:58And so apologetics helps us bring back that which once again,
  136. 9:03God has declared in His word to help them see the why
  137. 9:07and to help them come to a faith that is rooted in truth.
  138. 9:11And according to what He says and to what we see
  139. 9:13the natural world around us.
  140. 9:16And you know, Frank, listen, I love the fact that, you know, people of our parents' generation,
  141. 9:24America and much of the world was more Christian, you know, in the early to mid-20th century.
  142. 9:31But there were a lot of cultural juggernauts that came along in the 60s and 70s and 80s,
  143. 9:37and the world became much more secular.
  144. 9:40But I've talked to a lot of older people and they'll say, Alex, what do you mean defend
  145. 9:47the Christian faith?
  146. 9:49I don't have to defend the Bible.
  147. 9:50The Bible stands on its own.
  148. 9:53Here's my point.
  149. 9:54I think there were a lot of years that apologetics and defending the Christian faith and critical
  150. 10:01thinking skills were not really assumed to be needed because the culture that many older
  151. 10:08people grew up in was fairly pro-Christian. And the idea that Christianity needed to be
  152. 10:15defended was just not even on the table. But, you know, even, you know, I grew up and I was
  153. 10:23in school in the 70s, I was in college in the 80s. I remember professors at the University
  154. 10:31of North Carolina at Greensboro that just, they were very brazenly mocking Christianity, mocking
  155. 10:38Billy Graham and preachers in the church.
  156. 10:42And so I think there were a lot of years where,
  157. 10:46you know, it was what's called feedism folks.
  158. 10:49Feedism from the Latin word feed a is just,
  159. 10:52it's faith without any reasons.
  160. 10:55Why do you have faith?
  161. 10:57Because you just do.
  162. 10:59But we're in a world, Frank, as you and I both know,
  163. 11:03that faith, that is salvation, faith in Jesus.
  164. 11:06However, people nowadays, they want to know why.
  165. 11:11How do I know the Bible is true?
  166. 11:13How can we be certain Jesus rose from the dead?
  167. 11:15And so we don't have home court advantage anymore, really,
  168. 11:20in terms of Christianity, do we?
  169. 11:23We've been challenged a lot.
  170. 11:25And I honestly think it's good to get challenged.
  171. 11:30When I was young, if a bully were to push back against me
  172. 11:35in a physical way, it would lead me to either come to a place where I would fight or I would
  173. 11:40run away. I mean, that was my options. Well, if we believe that the Christian faith is solid,
  174. 11:46we should learn how to, I don't want to say violently, but push back against that which is coming and
  175. 11:53we should be able to defend our faith. I think a huge portion of it is because of those cultural
  176. 11:59things that have come in. You had the sexual revolution, you had the gender revolution starting
  177. 12:05late 50s, early 60s, you had these things that challenged our assumptions in what we assumed
  178. 12:12everyone believed and was in agreement with, only to find out that over time it's been eroded
  179. 12:19and not everyone is in agreement with it anymore. So we should be able to explain why
  180. 12:26sexual relations should be between only a husband and a wife, why there are only two genders,
  181. 12:31of why we created and we didn't happen by accident.
  182. 12:38Why is it that we can trust that what we read in Genesis 1
  183. 12:44is the actual account of what happened
  184. 12:47in the creation of the heavens and the earth?
  185. 12:49So there are a lot of things that professors today
  186. 12:52will challenge and quite frankly,
  187. 12:56they're students who may not be professors,
  188. 12:58but they're in the workplaces and other places that we have our fellowship with,
  189. 13:04that we should be able to share why we believe what we believe.
  190. 13:09And so it's really important to not only know the what, but to know the why.
  191. 13:13Well, the camps, folks, if you're just tuning in, Alex McFarland here,
  192. 13:17this is the American Family Radio Network.
  193. 13:19One of our colleagues and friends, Frank Figueroa,
  194. 13:22amazing speaker on many topics, one of which is creation and defending
  195. 13:28what God's word says about the origin of all things. But at the summer camps, equipretreat.org.
  196. 13:37Equip, retreat.org. We do seven camps all around America. We're in Montana. We're in upstate New
  197. 13:44Jersey in the Hudson River Valley. We're in South Carolina, Temple, Georgia. And we talk about
  198. 13:51biblical worldview. Frank, why do you think it's important that middle school, high schoolers,
  199. 13:58teenagers, they come to the equip retreats and we drill down deeply. We've only got 30 seconds.
  200. 14:04Why are these biblical apologetics camps important? I believe it's important because
  201. 14:12the young people want to know why they should believe what the Bible says. And when you take away
  202. 14:19the phones and you get them isolated to a camp setting in which we can have true fellowship
  203. 14:25centering on the Word of God. We can actually spend the time and expound upon the truths that are
  204. 14:30in Scripture and there's no place quite like it like the equip camps. I tell people invest a week
  205. 14:37that will count for a lifetime. Frank Figueroa will have to visit again soon. Thanks for being
  206. 14:41with us folks. When we come back we'll talk with Barry McGuire about evangelism. Stay tuned. Alex
  207. 14:47McFarland's here, we're back with more after this.
  208. 15:00A discipleship minute with Joseph Parker.
  209. 15:03It is in fact relatively easy to bless others and encourage people with our words if we
  210. 15:08wisely and very deliberately seek to do so.
  211. 15:12Well, what are some words that we can speak as a lifestyle that can bless others?
  212. 15:18What are some words that can promote healing, grace, and encouragement in the lives of others?
  213. 15:24Well here are a few.
  214. 15:26Thank you.
  215. 15:27I appreciate you.
  216. 15:29Please, how can I help you?
  217. 15:33I'm sorry.
  218. 15:34I apologize.
  219. 15:36Please forgive me.
  220. 15:38How can I pray for you?
  221. 15:40What can I do to bless you today?
  222. 15:43You are awesome.
  223. 15:45You are a blessing.
  224. 15:47I believe in you.
  225. 15:48I believe you can do it.
  226. 15:50You will do great.
  227. 15:52And obviously these are just a few words, but words that can bless and encourage others
  228. 15:56in their daily lives.
  229. 16:05Shiting light into the darkness,
  230. 16:07this is the Hamilton Corner on American Family Radio.
  231. 16:11Welcome back to the program.
  232. 16:13Your day is about to get a lot more
  233. 16:15joyful and I'll explain that in just a moment.
  234. 16:17But Alex McFarland here, thanks for listening.
  235. 16:19You know, in that first segment we were talking with Frank Figueroa
  236. 16:22about our youth camps, again the website of those
  237. 16:25seven summer youth camps is equipretreat.org.
  238. 16:29Let me make you aware of several other things.
  239. 16:32other things in addition to the 1200 teenagers will have in seven summer camps.
  240. 16:37We talk about biblical worldview.
  241. 16:38We talk about evangelism.
  242. 16:41Last year in all of our camps, we had around 168 kids pray to accept Christ as
  243. 16:46their savior, but we also talk about biblical worldview and living for Christ
  244. 16:52and biblical citizenship.
  245. 16:54But also I'll be at the Billy Graham training center in Western North Carolina.
  246. 16:58It's called the Cove.
  247. 16:59The website is thecove.org, T-H-E-C-O-V-E,
  248. 17:03thecove.org.
  249. 17:06And I would love to see you there every summer,
  250. 17:09and I've been there, I've got the glory for 20 summers.
  251. 17:12And they asked me to teach a book of the Bible.
  252. 17:15Now this summer, July 18-20,
  253. 17:18I'll be at the Cove, the Billy Graham Center,
  254. 17:20teaching the book of Job,
  255. 17:22Why Do Bad Things Happen in the World?
  256. 17:24And then I'll be there in August with J. Warner Wallace,
  257. 17:27and we'll be talking about apologetics.
  258. 17:29And so go to the website, thecove.org,
  259. 17:33and just put my name in the space bar, Alex McFarland,
  260. 17:36and you'll see their great seminars,
  261. 17:39Erwin Lutzer, K. Arthur, all sorts of wonderful people,
  262. 17:43Will Graham, but I would love for you to come to the ones
  263. 17:47where I'll be teaching, and I'd love to meet you,
  264. 17:49and together we'll drill down deeply into the Word of God.
  265. 17:53Well, here's the thing, listen to this folks,
  266. 17:55one of the things we do every year we go to NRB and that's going to be next month in
  267. 17:59Texas National Religious Broadcasters and I and Bert Harper and Tim Wildman and all
  268. 18:06the great AFR staff we go and for a number of years the absolute highlight of the
  269. 18:12week is when we get to visit with Barry Maguire. Now Barry Maguire is the leader
  270. 18:19of Maguire's Car Wax, a global brand. Chances are you have Maguire's Car Wax in
  271. 18:27your garage. I know we do. I've bought Maguire since I was a teenager, but I've
  272. 18:33come to love Barry Maguire because he is just so full of joy and this man is a
  273. 18:38walking, talking, evangelism wave. He is the great commission embodied and I just
  274. 18:47love this guy, you're going to be blessed as we converse and hear his story. But welcome to the
  275. 18:53American Family Radio Network, an incredible man of God, Barry Maguire. Welcome, brother.
  276. 19:00Hey, thank you. Always good to be with you. We have a lot of fun at RV. That's, it's coming up.
  277. 19:04It's getting getting soon. Wow, it is. And you know what, I got to tell you, and I'm going to go
  278. 19:10all starstruck on you. I remember when I was 16 years old and I bought, I went to the auto parts
  279. 19:17store. I can see it now in my little town of Pleasant Garden, North Carolina. And I had a,
  280. 19:24had a 66 Ford that I had bought for $250. It was not anything special, but it was my first car.
  281. 19:32But I bought a big burgundy bottle of Maguire's Car Wax. And brother, that would have been about
  282. 19:401980 and to know Mr. McGuire is really a thrill.
  283. 19:47And that's something it's fun to meet somebody whose name was on the brand you know and I am
  284. 19:54the guy.
  285. 19:55It's a third generation business star by my grandfather in 1901.
  286. 19:59Praying man miracles miracles.
  287. 20:01I mean I have no issues.
  288. 20:02I have incredible heritage from both sides of my family from my other side, pioneer preachers
  289. 20:09in Texas and on my grandfather's side I have right at my desk here a book on
  290. 20:15systematic theology that my grandfather McWhire who started with Goirce Carwax in 1901.
  291. 20:21It's his book and almost an page there's notes. So this is my roots and God told me,
  292. 20:30inspired me to go retail. We were buffing cars in dirty filthy body shops and garages and that was
  293. 20:37was our business back when I graduated college
  294. 20:40after 60 years of business.
  295. 20:41That's how we sold our products.
  296. 20:43I was really good at buffing with a machine, you know?
  297. 20:46And God called me to go into retail.
  298. 20:49And I didn't know anything about retail, what on earth?
  299. 20:53And he kept impressing upon me.
  300. 20:55And I said, well, God, I've always loved
  301. 20:58Proverbs three, five, and it's gonna pay off for me now.
  302. 21:00I'm gonna trust you with my whole heart.
  303. 21:02I mean, I don't have any understanding.
  304. 21:04thing and I don't have a clue about retail. So I just trusted him and the stories, the
  305. 21:11miracle stories have gone through fun to now, but now we're the number one selling car wax
  306. 21:16and it's the more I've honored him. Yeah. The more he's honored me, the more he's honored
  307. 21:22our business. Well, you know, I hope it, you know, you know that, you know, I do and I have
  308. 21:28such respect for you, Barry, and I came to appreciate you because as I would meet you every
  309. 21:34year at NRB and we would interview you. I came to realize cars are cool, car wax, that's
  310. 21:42wonderful. But the thing that matters most to you and it is so authentic is Jesus Christ
  311. 21:48and the whole wide world coming to know Jesus. And I said, wow, this guy has a singular commitment
  312. 21:56and that is to Christ's great commission. So I want to hear how you came to know the Lord
  313. 22:02And how did God make you into just the great commission Christian that you are?
  314. 22:08Well, and as I speak, whatever I say in the next few moments, it's for all of us.
  315. 22:15The great commission is not just for a guy, pedal, car racks.
  316. 22:20When we get to heaven, understand that when we get to heaven, when you get to heaven,
  317. 22:24the only thing that's going to matter when you get to heaven if you're Christian is how many
  318. 22:28people are in heaven because of your influence. It's not going to matter how many bottles of
  319. 22:33carwax I sold. It won't even be a discussion. So first off, are you in the Lamb's Book of Life?
  320. 22:39Of course. But for those of us who are from now until the income, we don't know when that's
  321. 22:44going to be, but I suspect it's getting closer and closer. I expect to make the rapture. I don't
  322. 22:48think I'm going to die. I mean, I think God the God, but you know what? That didn't wear me down
  323. 22:53or just say, put him back on the back seat. It makes me excited because we're running out of time.
  324. 22:57and most people are lost. We're running out of time to tell them Jesus loves them and they don't
  325. 23:03know that. You know 90% of our population, they're not evil. They say evil things. Crazy. How can
  326. 23:10they? They're blinded. They have an excuse for their behavior. They're lost. They don't know
  327. 23:16that there's a God that loves them by the grace of God. I do. And from now until whatever we're
  328. 23:22going to see Jesus face to face our number one goal, your number one goal is to lead everybody
  329. 23:27every day closer to Jesus. Nothing else matters. He said, love me and love your neighbors yourself.
  330. 23:34That's all I require of you. Seeking is saving the loss. We say move everybody.
  331. 23:41Every day closer to Jesus. Everybody. You know everything you say and do.
  332. 23:46But in the morning you get up and you can't get away from this. I'm going to let one run you right now.
  333. 23:51Everything you say and do is moving everyone watching you closer for the way from God.
  334. 23:57Even when you don't realize it in those moments when you have a you get bad news
  335. 24:03Or you lost the presentation or for me when I learned my 49-year-old daughter died
  336. 24:09hmm and for me when when I
  337. 24:14Was in the hospital dying they gave up on me. I still have my joy
  338. 24:20You know and when I was told by my joint venture party, they're gonna throw me out of my business at the worst moment of my life
  339. 24:26I was 65 years old. I still had joy and I said God I asked you for nothing because you know I live for your purpose
  340. 24:35And I know you out of your word and roll was a 20 you say all things all things work together for good
  341. 24:41If you live for my purpose your purpose is to seek a safe the loss
  342. 24:45And so that means moving everybody every day closer to you would we live for that more than anything else?
  343. 24:51So the story of my life is that by just just low profit before I say anything
  344. 24:55This message is not a message for one out of a thousand is for all of us
  345. 25:02And this is how we
  346. 25:05Amen, and and you know what a joy, and I'm not just flattering you
  347. 25:11I just I've known you I've been around you
  348. 25:13You have the joy that could only come from Jesus Christ
  349. 25:18And that joy is available to everybody people get frustrated people get depressed
  350. 25:24people go down some dead-end streets and they feel like they're empty. That joy
  351. 25:30tell us where can people find joy? That's a great question because you know what got
  352. 25:38started on sharing our faith was a search for joy. Well we had young kids and I was
  353. 25:45well trained so I mean it was giving sacrifice you get time money whatever
  354. 25:49we're doing all the way things but care I kept out we don't have any joy it's like
  355. 25:54I think we were trying to earn our way into heaven.
  356. 25:57So I don't know, but we were overachievers, man.
  357. 25:59We were one of our pastor's lunch.
  358. 26:01But we didn't have any joy.
  359. 26:03In fact, we were in the beginning of the law.
  360. 26:04We said, why do we have, we should have joy
  361. 26:07and all we're doing for the Lord.
  362. 26:08That's the wrong attitude.
  363. 26:09I mean, we had it all best.
  364. 26:11Somebody has patience with us.
  365. 26:13So we started praying for joy.
  366. 26:15God, give us joy.
  367. 26:16And we went about two or three weeks later to a luncheon
  368. 26:20for the 50th anniversary of our church.
  369. 26:23And they just had the 100th anniversary for the church
  370. 26:26and I was a speaker.
  371. 26:28But this was 50 years early, 1973.
  372. 26:32And I sat right next to the speaker.
  373. 26:35They was Herb Ellingwood.
  374. 26:36He was, tell you how, he was the legal affairs secretary
  375. 26:39for Governor Reagan.
  376. 26:41Governor Reagan.
  377. 26:42And I wanted to hear all about Reagan.
  378. 26:43I sent there for an hour with the enemy before he spoke.
  379. 26:47And it was the most life-changing hour of my life.
  380. 26:51And he went from one story another to tell you
  381. 26:53about how he was sharing his faith in the craziest places
  382. 26:56all the time, even he said, and last night,
  383. 27:01it just struck me and I walked away from that luncheon
  384. 27:04and tears, I said, I want what he has, God,
  385. 27:07that's what I want.
  386. 27:09And I never quite had shared your faith with joy.
  387. 27:13I had quit sharing my faith with a scratchy voice
  388. 27:16and sweaty palms and trying to think of my next point
  389. 27:20that I got to make.
  390. 27:21It was so hard, I hated doing this.
  391. 27:23And he's having fun doing just loving on people.
  392. 27:26It's a whole different revelation to us.
  393. 27:29So we started doing that.
  394. 27:30And it wasn't about a month later, we were laughing one day
  395. 27:33and we said, we have joy.
  396. 27:36And we've had it ever since.
  397. 27:38We've never lost it or we have bad things happen to us,
  398. 27:40but we never have a bad day.
  399. 27:42We never have a bad day.
  400. 27:44God's always there.
  401. 27:46So it's amazing.
  402. 27:47Cook story, I probably had to put it in perspective.
  403. 27:50About three years later, we were sharing our faith.
  404. 27:52So, after I thought God wanted me to go to full-time ministry.
  405. 27:55So, I prayed, really the most fervent prayer of my life,
  406. 27:58closed the door of my office and prayed,
  407. 28:00God, if you want me to go to full-time ministry,
  408. 28:02I will go, I will leave them busy.
  409. 28:04You're working miracles in my life.
  410. 28:06I'm seeing it.
  411. 28:07I feel like this is, this retail thing
  412. 28:09is really gonna work for us, but I'll leave it in an hour
  413. 28:11or second if you will, I just wanna follow you.
  414. 28:15But you're always gonna have to speak to me
  415. 28:16in an audible voice as well.
  416. 28:18I said, almost have to speak to me in an audible voice.
  417. 28:20So I know for sure you want me to leave.
  418. 28:23And that 20 minutes later, a guy named David
  419. 28:26that walked into my office, I didn't know him.
  420. 28:29I recognized him.
  421. 28:30I knew he was a missionary kid.
  422. 28:31My age was a missionary kid.
  423. 28:33He spoke from the platform, over time.
  424. 28:35So that's how I knew who he was.
  425. 28:36But I never exchanged a glance with him.
  426. 28:38Now he's in my office.
  427. 28:39He said, I ain't very just thought it's not my house at going.
  428. 28:42And so I thought, well, he's probably not into shiny cars.
  429. 28:45And cool cars and a lot of stuff.
  430. 28:48So I just started telling people to share my faith with.
  431. 28:51And he said, immediately, God's given you
  432. 28:53a wonderful ministry here, Haddonie.
  433. 28:55I said, what, this is for you folks listening to us right now.
  434. 28:58He says, God's given you a wonderful ministry here, hasn't he?
  435. 29:03I said, why would you say that?
  436. 29:06He said, well, the people you're reaching a pastor couldn't reach
  437. 29:09was a business man you can't.
  438. 29:11It's obviously he gave us to me in 1976.
  439. 29:13It's obvious that your business is your pulpit.
  440. 29:17Wow.
  441. 29:18If you're a housewife, you're a teacher, you're a student, you're a attorney, I don't
  442. 29:22care what it is, you're in the middle of your mission field.
  443. 29:26And when you take the focus of using the problems, when people are in travail, don't waste the
  444. 29:32problem, use the problem.
  445. 29:35Show me what it's like to have joy in the midst of the problem.
  446. 29:37That's powerful.
  447. 29:38Amen.
  448. 29:39I'm in high in the hospital and I told God, okay, if I'm going to die, I'm going to die,
  449. 29:44I tried to lead as many people two years as I can.
  450. 29:47And I got to be a joke for me, a fun game for me.
  451. 29:50Everybody, who's the next person I can talk to you about Jesus?
  452. 29:54I was dying, I had all the pains and the hoses of it.
  453. 29:57And I'm thinking about how can I lead the next person
  454. 30:00to go to Jesus?
  455. 30:01Folks, it changes everything, the joy.
  456. 30:04And when you get into that game, and it is a game,
  457. 30:07I'm sorry, I'm very reverent by it.
  458. 30:09The purpose of being to represent God, but it's like sport.
  459. 30:13I mean, there's nothing more exhilarating than knowing
  460. 30:15you're right where God wants you to be at that moment
  461. 30:18and not reading a script.
  462. 30:20But let's see, Luke 12 says,
  463. 30:22I'll give you the word to say the Holy Spirit,
  464. 30:25give you the word to say when you need them.
  465. 30:27And a lot of that happens every day.
  466. 30:30And it just rolls off you.
  467. 30:31I do, you don't have to prepare.
  468. 30:33He gives you the words.
  469. 30:34You know God's using you.
  470. 30:37You're intimately involved with God,
  471. 30:39leading somebody to Him and they're broken
  472. 30:41and they're crying and I just tell a car wax
  473. 30:44and I get to do it.
  474. 30:46You get to do that every day.
  475. 30:49Yeah, you'll have joy.
  476. 30:51Is that answer your question?
  477. 30:53Very much folks, Barry McGuire has an upcoming
  478. 30:56devotional book.
  479. 30:57Now listen to this great title, Live Ignited.
  480. 31:00Your daily nudge to share your faith.
  481. 31:03Live ignited.
  482. 31:04Now we're gonna talk about this more
  483. 31:06we've got a brief break, but Barry,
  484. 31:08Where can they get the book and is the book out yet?
  485. 31:12The book is out, it's an Amazon bestseller,
  486. 31:14actually, Google figured, you know,
  487. 31:16my congratulations.
  488. 31:18Eagle, anywhere, born to know what have you,
  489. 31:21it's also an auto, I read the whole book,
  490. 31:24I'd say so much to my voice.
  491. 31:26Actually, there's all these chapters,
  492. 31:28every chapter has a QR code,
  493. 31:30where I actually speak to you about what that chapter says.
  494. 31:33What's most importantly is the scriptures,
  495. 31:35the scriptures of every chapter,
  496. 31:36if you pay no attention,
  497. 31:38My words are just how I responded to the scripture,
  498. 31:41the power of the book is the scriptures.
  499. 31:44And there are, we're just talking about it today.
  500. 31:46There are, I think it's 400 reviews,
  501. 31:49all five star reviews on Amazon.
  502. 31:52And we check to see what's the percentage?
  503. 31:55And it's like 1% report of favorable refuse.
  504. 31:59So you get a, I'd say we have 500 times.
  505. 32:01I don't know what it was.
  506. 32:02We certainly have tens of thousands of people.
  507. 32:04And you know what they're saying?
  508. 32:06Go to Amazon and just read the reviews.
  509. 32:08Every single one of them say,
  510. 32:09I didn't share my faith at all.
  511. 32:11I was afraid to share my faith.
  512. 32:13I didn't think I, you know, all the excuses.
  513. 32:15I'm not down at all.
  514. 32:17And now I'm sharing my faith every day
  515. 32:19and having the time of my life doing it.
  516. 32:21Wow, that's so much better.
  517. 32:23Whatever else you're doing,
  518. 32:25he'll make the path straight.
  519. 32:27And he'll make it all work good
  520. 32:29if your eyes are living for his purpose and not yours.
  521. 32:33Well, when we come back,
  522. 32:34we're gonna continue our conversation with Barry McGuire.
  523. 32:36We're going to talk about overcoming fear.
  524. 32:38We're going to talk about not letting Satan neutralize your faith.
  525. 32:42He's the author of the devotional Live Ignited.
  526. 32:46And I happen to know he is a man who is ignited and on fire for Jesus Christ.
  527. 32:51You can be too.
  528. 32:52Alex McFarland saying, stay tuned.
  529. 32:54We're back after this.
  530. 33:00The American Family Association's mission is to inform, equip, and
  531. 33:04activate individuals to strengthen the moral foundations of our culture.
  532. 33:09We also support the church.

  534. 33:13in biblical worldview training for cultural transformation.
  535. 33:17AFA aims to evangelize the lost and disciple the believer.
  536. 33:21We aim to strengthen biblical marriages
  537. 33:23and equip parents to raise godly children.
  538. 33:26Thank you for standing with the American Family Association.
  539. 33:34The Hamilton Quarter Podcast and One-Bitted Commentaries
  540. 33:37are available at efr.net.
  541. 33:40Back to the Hamilton Corner on American Family Radio.
  542. 33:46Oh, the Lord is so good.
  543. 33:48Alex McFarland here, we're talking with Barry McGuire
  544. 33:51of McGuire's Car Wax, but also he's the author
  545. 33:55of an upcoming book called Live.
  546. 33:57Well, it's out already, actually, Live Ignited.
  547. 34:01And it speaks about being on fire for Jesus Christ,
  548. 34:03the subtitle, Your Daily Nudge to Share Your Faith.
  549. 34:08So many things that we're gonna converse about,
  550. 34:11But Barry, before we go too much farther, any websites, what is your website or anywhere
  551. 34:15online you'd like to direct us to?
  552. 34:17Oh, it's a lot of, and it's a huge ministry with every kind of helping you possibly imagine
  553. 34:25that will take you from never sharing your faith.
  554. 34:28I don't share my faith.
  555. 34:29I don't have the talent to share.
  556. 34:31We actually have a site that's MFE, whole page of MFE, most frequent excuses.
  557. 34:42don't share faith and we destroy it with scripture. I mean God's call to
  558. 34:46solve to share your faith. I don't care who you are. So the website is
  559. 34:49IgniteAmerica.com. And we talked about the book a moment ago if I could do a
  560. 34:57shameless plug. This is what it's like. It's Ignite your life and if you get into
  561. 35:03what I'm talking about so easy there's no training required. You just love on
  562. 35:09people, this tells you how you just love one people without even trying to get them
  563. 35:14saved. You just love one people and you'll find out it's a Holy Spirit experiencing
  564. 35:18within five minutes they'll tell you their deeds. And then the words to say it happens every time
  565. 35:27and you get to have that several times a day and you probably all of them you probably know
  566. 35:31at some point in time you shared with somebody sometime and you walked away with the kind of a
  567. 35:35Wow. And what I do it, I just know I just write where God would meet me and I walk away and you know
  568. 35:42the joy the Lord is our strength not our joy it's his joy. Do you know you've got joy? You could
  569. 35:47disappoint him, you can grieve him or you can give him joy and you can give him joy every day.
  570. 35:53And I look up and I see Jesus smiling at me and I know what you're saying to me. You pulled it off
  571. 36:00You're right there. You listen to my voice. You let me speak through you and I
  572. 36:06I
  573. 36:08Got it you're so awesome
  574. 36:13Ignatually
  575. 36:15Exactly that that
  576. 36:17Ignited life and folks let me encourage you to check this out and you know what I know you and I both
  577. 36:23We want God to get the glory
  578. 36:25But I just want to say thank you for who you are because I've been around you enough
  579. 36:29enough, you are for real.
  580. 36:32You are the real deal.
  581. 36:34You're absolutely authentic for the Lord Jesus Christ.
  582. 36:37And I just want to commend you, brother, for, for, I mean, a lot of people, you are, you
  583. 36:44truly are the ignited Christian.
  584. 36:48And that's just a wonderful thing.
  585. 36:51If I give you one last scripture, and there's all these scriptures that we should share,
  586. 36:55but why?
  587. 36:56Why has God want you to share your faith?
  588. 36:58You know what, secondarily to win the lost?
  589. 37:01It's primarily to win you.
  590. 37:03Okay.
  591. 37:04This is how we consummate seriously folks.
  592. 37:06Listen, this is how we consummate a relationship with God.
  593. 37:09He didn't say this will make you understand more.
  594. 37:11He says, this is how you know I'm God.
  595. 37:13Isaiah 43, 10,
  596. 37:15must say it to the Lord.
  597. 37:17I appointed you as my witness so that you will believe.
  598. 37:22If I was God, I'd say so, they'll believe.
  599. 37:24No, because when He's focusing you,
  600. 37:26He's only focused on you.
  601. 37:28He's not trying to use you.
  602. 37:30He wants your heart and he knows when you're sharing your faith,
  603. 37:32yes, what, you're in the Word, you're praying.
  604. 37:35Everything happens in your life.
  605. 37:38It all comes together.
  606. 37:39When you share your faith, that's why it's the great commission.
  607. 37:42As they write that down,
  608. 37:44this is God's calling on your life and mind.
  609. 37:47Every one of us, when we do that, we have joy.
  610. 37:50Yeah.
  611. 37:51And eventually.
  612. 37:52How does Satan use fear in the life of a Christian?
  613. 38:00How does he speak to me?
  614. 38:02How does Satan sometimes use fear?
  615. 38:07I have no fear. I haven't had fear any fear for decades.
  616. 38:12I just have not. You know why? Because I live according to Romans 828, the scripture that we just throw away, we know it, we don't believe it.
  617. 38:20But he means it.
  618. 38:22He promise you I'll make everything you like.
  619. 38:24We're too good for good.
  620. 38:25He means it, but, but it's like, you know,
  621. 38:28what's everybody to be saying,
  622. 38:29but you got to confess your sins.
  623. 38:31In this case, he says, I'll do it,
  624. 38:32but you do two things.
  625. 38:33You love me with your whole heart
  626. 38:35and you love your neighbors yourself.
  627. 38:37Only in Romans eight, 28, he says,
  628. 38:39when you live from my purpose,
  629. 38:41my purpose is to seek and save the loss.
  630. 38:43We know that when we live our lives,
  631. 38:46to seek and save the lost.
  632. 38:48And our ministry make it simple, move everybody
  633. 38:51every day closer to Jesus.
  634. 38:53We live in the promise of Romans 8, 28,
  635. 38:57that all things work together for good.
  636. 38:58We have a fun way of saying it.
  637. 39:00Follow the nudge, live in the fog.
  638. 39:03This is this divorce that we just brought out,
  639. 39:05living night and we say, this is your daily nudge.
  640. 39:08We talk about that because you know what I'm talking about.
  641. 39:11You've been nudge ever once in a while.
  642. 39:13You should call Bob, he just found out he has cancer.
  643. 39:15Oh, I don't know what I'm gonna say.
  644. 39:17I wouldn't have the right scripture, you know,
  645. 39:19you're that person's hurry.
  646. 39:20Oh, I don't have time right now.
  647. 39:23I'm with a secular friend and their poor hands,
  648. 39:25the hearts I should say, can I pray for you?
  649. 39:27But he'd think I'm a fool.
  650. 39:28We have all these excuses.
  651. 39:30When you fall in the nudge, folks get this.
  652. 39:32When you fall in the nudge, you live in the fog.
  653. 39:36You live in the favor of God.
  654. 39:39Okay.
  655. 39:41Of God, you live in the promise of Romans 828.
  656. 39:44That's what life's all about.
  657. 39:46That's what life's all about.
  658. 39:48And Paul said, what's my, where do I get my reward?
  659. 39:51He was told the Thessalonians, what are we my reward?
  660. 39:54What's my crown when I get to heaven?
  661. 39:57It's you.
  662. 39:58It's those of you I've led to him.
  663. 40:01And forever I could have known that I led you to the Lord
  664. 40:04and we're gonna be celebrating together.
  665. 40:05And I had a part of you being here.
  666. 40:07Can you imagine people coming up here throughout eternity
  667. 40:10because of your influence?
  668. 40:11I accepted the Lord.
  669. 40:12That's what it's about.
  670. 40:13We're here for a moment.
  671. 40:14over this eternity folks, folks,
  672. 40:17the only thing that matters is if you're a Christian,
  673. 40:20it's gonna matter between now,
  674. 40:21or do you get to have it?
  675. 40:23Is how many people have you led to have it
  676. 40:25because you're influenced?
  677. 40:26And it's fun.
  678. 40:29That's the best part, it ignates your life.
  679. 40:31And there's a ton of us with this kind of joy
  680. 40:33around we're fighting more and more all the time,
  681. 40:35and we all have this one thing in common.
  682. 40:37We have no worries, no fear.
  683. 40:39Amen.
  684. 40:40Just freedom.
  685. 40:41It's freedom.
  686. 40:42Well, and you know, so many people need hope.
  687. 40:45You know, hey, I love apologetics.
  688. 40:51I love biblical worldview.
  689. 40:52But listen, I just think people need hope.
  690. 40:54And we've got the greatest hope, the most real reality.
  691. 41:00The tomb is empty, Christ is risen,
  692. 41:03Jesus is as close by as a prayer.
  693. 41:05Don't you think with a world that is searching
  694. 41:09and so hungry for a word of encouragement and some tangible hope.
  695. 41:15I mean, we've got the greatest opportunity
  696. 41:17maybe in our entire lifetimes.
  697. 41:21Well, this world is so attractive in the state
  698. 41:25and it makes it that way.
  699. 41:26And we get hung up with all these things
  700. 41:27and where are you got?
  701. 41:28He's right there.
  702. 41:30The word even says he sends us problems.
  703. 41:33I thank God, care to thank God for every bad thing
  704. 41:37that's happened to us because it's in those times
  705. 41:39that you had your growth words.
  706. 41:41Not when you're on the top of the mount job.
  707. 41:44It's under pressure when you trust him
  708. 41:46and he brings you through it.
  709. 41:47Oh my goodness.
  710. 41:48But listen to this for a moment.
  711. 41:50I mean, the higher calling is,
  712. 41:52God could have done anything.
  713. 41:54He always was, always will be,
  714. 41:56He could do anything.
  715. 41:57He made us out of nothing.
  716. 41:59He made man out of nothing for eternity.
  717. 42:01He didn't make you for earth.
  718. 42:03He made you for eternity.
  719. 42:04He gives you enough time in earth to figure out who he is
  720. 42:07to receive him and tell other people around him.
  721. 42:10but he made you out of nothing for heaven.
  722. 42:14And then he sends his son down and allows the man
  723. 42:18he created to torture him and yes, kill him to sacrifice him
  724. 42:25as he can be a pardon then for us.
  725. 42:27And so he can justify us getting into heaven.
  726. 42:31He gave his son to be sacrificed and all that pain,
  727. 42:34it was real pain.
  728. 42:35He did it for us, that's how much he loves us.
  729. 42:38so that we're justified to go to heaven
  730. 42:40and not only go to heaven, but be joined heirs with Him,
  731. 42:44join heirs with eternal God over all of the heavens
  732. 42:48and the angels and the vast sources of creation
  733. 42:51and what do you have hope for?
  734. 42:55You kidding me?
  735. 42:56Even so come Lord Jesus, but even so between now
  736. 42:59and then get as many people in the puss you possibly can.
  737. 43:03And that's what joy, the real joy comes on this earth.
  738. 43:07Every time I pray, I pray that when God comes when he returns,
  739. 43:11I'll be in the middle of leading one more people.
  740. 43:13One more person, Jesus Christ.
  741. 43:16Wouldn't that be great?
  742. 43:17You know, earlier in the program,
  743. 43:19you mentioned that you thought that you might be alive
  744. 43:22when the rapture comes, me too.
  745. 43:24I mean, we don't know the day or the hour,
  746. 43:27but we're closer than we've ever been.
  747. 43:29And talk to us if you would bury about living
  748. 43:33in light of eternity.
  749. 43:35I mean, that trumpet is gonna sound one day
  750. 43:37and the Eastern sky will open and Jesus is coming back.
  751. 43:41What does it mean to live in light of eternity?
  752. 43:46I live every day like it's my last day and it could be.
  753. 43:50I lived on a day-to-day basis with God.
  754. 43:52I want to, this is a conscious thing for me.
  755. 43:57I'm 82 years old, I can die tomorrow.
  756. 44:02There's a point in time.
  757. 44:03I mean, God knows our days, right?
  758. 44:05He didn't get to extend our days.
  759. 44:06So I live so that God is so happy with me today,
  760. 44:10that he says, that's pretty good.
  761. 44:13But I think I'll give him another day.
  762. 44:15Amen.
  763. 44:16And I just give him fruit, I give you souls.
  764. 44:18And I'm working for him.
  765. 44:20And only 1% of us are sharing our faith, folks.
  766. 44:23Only 1% of us, 80% of the loss are looking for God right now.
  767. 44:27This moment in time, there's never another time
  768. 44:30like it when the whole world is wondering what's going on,
  769. 44:32even the heatheners saying, what happened?
  770. 44:35and Trump got elected, what's got up to?
  771. 44:38They're asking questions.
  772. 44:39We have, they're lost, but they're asking questions.
  773. 44:42The fields are white for harvest, but the labor is for you.
  774. 44:46We need your help, please, I beg you.
  775. 44:50This book will help you.
  776. 44:51I don't make any money out of the book,
  777. 44:53but do that or get to our Bible study.
  778. 44:55And once you talk to people about the Lord,
  779. 44:58we have a card called SeekingGod.org.
  780. 45:01And after you've just talked to them for five minutes,
  781. 45:03would ever see them again.
  782. 45:04They're in the line of Starbucks.
  783. 45:05Wherever you are, you just talk to people,
  784. 45:07you can get them interested in God so fast,
  785. 45:09and then you say, I suspect that you'd like
  786. 45:12to know more about God.
  787. 45:13They'll always say yes.
  788. 45:14And then you show them this card, you say,
  789. 45:16I could give you this card.
  790. 45:17This is a huge website, seekinggod.org.
  791. 45:22You know that'll do?
  792. 45:23That'll take somebody with no knowledge of God,
  793. 45:26and lead them in a center's prayer to God.
  794. 45:28You don't leave them in the lurch, you actually have,
  795. 45:30we get these out free charge,
  796. 45:32go to IgniteAmerica.com and order these free charge.
  797. 45:36And there's no, there's no passwords.
  798. 45:38You don't have to give us money.
  799. 45:39We're not asking for anything.
  800. 45:40We're, our ministry to serve your ministry,
  801. 45:43to ignite your life.
  802. 45:44That's the beat of our heart.
  803. 45:46And we're having a lot of fun doing it.
  804. 45:48And you know what I'm thinking about now folks, listen.
  805. 45:51They say there are 345,000 churches in America.
  806. 45:55I don't know, but it's a lot.
  807. 45:57and many, many churches are not seeing souls saved,
  808. 46:02but you could, you're declining, it can be turned around.
  809. 46:06So Barry, I'm thinking about what you've got,
  810. 46:08those cards seeking God, all it takes is one person
  811. 46:12to be the spark plug and folks, no matter where you are,
  812. 46:15the city, the country, all 50 states.
  813. 46:19Look, God can use you to revive your church
  814. 46:22and your church can become a soul saving station
  815. 46:26once again. So Barry, speak to us. All it takes is for God to get a hold of one person,
  816. 46:34and it can ignite a dormant church. And it's very, very insightful. Pew did a research study,
  817. 46:4150,000. This is not a small study, 50,000 sermons from 6,000 churches. And they came
  818. 46:49over the whole bunch of finds. I went to souls and salvation, and they reported only 10% of those
  819. 46:5550,000 sermons even mentioned salvation.
  820. 46:59Really?
  821. 47:00You know, one of the church's audience says,
  822. 47:01how are they going to go and tell them unless they're said,
  823. 47:03they're not sending us.
  824. 47:05That's why we have this minister of Ignite.
  825. 47:07We're waiting to send you.
  826. 47:09Listen to this right quick, folks.
  827. 47:10You can't save the world.
  828. 47:11I hear that.
  829. 47:12Oh, I can't say the word.
  830. 47:13You're right.
  831. 47:13You can't.
  832. 47:14And you can save your world.
  833. 47:16You have input.
  834. 47:17I don't care who you are.
  835. 47:18You have influence.
  836. 47:19That's your world.
  837. 47:21You could save your world.
  838. 47:22You could love on your world.
  839. 47:24You can be there for them always being ready and make that your highest priority.
  840. 47:28You know what? If we all started saving our worlds, if we started changing our worlds,
  841. 47:34we would change the world. There's 30 million of us that are going through the motion that are beating up.
  842. 47:4080% of us are having as much fear as the un-church. Why?
  843. 47:44There's no relation. You may be on your way to heaven by getting it.
  844. 47:48It's fearful and it's complaining. It's the world outside.
  845. 47:51I'm just getting to heaven.
  846. 47:53You might guess we'll make it in.
  847. 47:54If I talk about having joy and heaven rewards in heaven,
  848. 47:58and you do that now and you get past all that,
  849. 48:02you can't get your prayers answered if you're double minded.
  850. 48:05If you're double minded, I'm fearing whatever,
  851. 48:07you have to be whole hearted faith change.
  852. 48:08One says, if you're double minded,
  853. 48:10don't expect me to answer your prayers.
  854. 48:12Oh, but when you're whole hearted,
  855. 48:14then I will answer your prayers.
  856. 48:15I'll direct your steps.
  857. 48:16I'll bless your life.
  858. 48:17I'll make your paths straight.
  859. 48:19That's where you want to be.
  860. 48:21And that'll ignite your life, I promise.
  861. 48:24Folks, you've just been listening to Barry Maguire,
  862. 48:28a brother, a colleague, and a friend.

  866. 48:39just being with you on the show today, Barry.
  867. 48:41So give us your website, and folks,
  868. 48:44get out there, like Barry, and tell the world about Jesus.

  873. 48:57That's what you're gonna take.
  874. 48:58The church isn't doing it.
  875. 49:00But if everyone has took our influence, a view we input,
  876. 49:02so they see God in our weak and negative world,
  877. 49:06we can do that.
  878. 49:06We can do that.
  879. 49:07Thanks for listening and may God ignite America.
