  10. 0:28and now the Hamilton Corner.
  11. 0:32Good evening.
  12. 0:34Welcome to the Hamilton Corner here on American Family Radio.
  13. 0:38I'm your host Abraham Hamilton, the third and I am joined
  14. 0:42by Mr. Jeff Reid who is on my left.
  15. 0:44Sir Rob Garner is on my right.
  16. 0:47Marty Sparks, not lighting up the dark,
  17. 0:49but it's not because he wasn't here.
  18. 0:51He's here, buddy.
  19. 0:54I already know the clock is already going to be
  20. 0:56too disrespectful for today's program.
  21. 0:58So I am prepared for that to be the case.
  22. 1:04And I hope you are likewise prepared to get rolling with today's program.
  23. 1:13We have a lot to get to today.
  24. 1:15I'm trying to get things situated, having some challenges in some places.
  25. 1:20But I want to thank you for tuning into the program as is my custom to do because I know for a fact,
  26. 1:27You could listen to anything else you wanted to listen to you could be anywhere else that you wanted to be
  27. 1:32But you made the decision to be here with us and I am grateful for you making that decision
  28. 1:39I also am keenly keenly keenly aware that there are all sorts of things that are happening in the world around us
  29. 1:49however
  30. 1:50Let us be intentional
  31. 1:52Let us be diligent
  32. 1:54Let us not just participate, but let's give ourselves to the work that God has called us to.
  33. 2:01And that work first and foremost, first and foremost requires us to understand that there's a distinction between our part-time jobs and our full-time jobs.
  34. 2:11You've heard me on many occasions, if you listen to the program for a while, and if you're new to the program, I want to make sure you understand what I'm saying when I say that.
  35. 2:20Our part-time jobs is what we do outside of our homes generally.
  36. 2:24Many of us are doing it from home now more than normal.
  37. 2:27Many of us.
  38. 2:27But what we do to generate an income is our part-time job.
  39. 2:31I know in our comorbidacular, we describe our work as our full-time work.
  40. 2:35But I want to encourage you to recalibrate how you think about these things
  41. 2:40and to consider what you do to generate an income as your part-time job.
  42. 2:44Your full-time job, your full-time job, is discharging faithfulness
  43. 2:49to the King of glory, to the one who ransomed your soul.
  44. 2:55And in response to what he has done for us,
  45. 2:59purchasing for us and providing for us
  46. 3:02the free gift of salvation,
  47. 3:04that we respond by attending to the first,
  48. 3:09or should I say a primary context
  49. 3:11within which the discharge faithfulness,
  50. 3:13which is our families,
  51. 3:14let us honor our Lord in how we serve Him in our families.
  52. 3:19all too often we see additional components.
  53. 3:24For example, were you trying to get my attention?
  54. 3:26Oh, okay.
  55. 3:27You see from the scripture, you read Psalm 127,
  56. 3:30read Malachi chapter two verse 15,
  57. 3:32read Ephesians chapter six,
  58. 3:34how the Bible literally explains that the responsibility
  59. 3:38for cultivating disciples in the hearts of offspring
  60. 3:41that are born into Christian families,
  61. 3:43it's not the job of the youth pastor.
  62. 3:45I know we have a lot of them, no shade of youth pastors,
  63. 3:47unless you win a skinny gene.
  64. 3:49That's a whole other problem.
  65. 3:50Much shade to you of skinny pants is your portion.
  66. 3:53I digress.
  67. 3:54The scripture explains that the responsibility,
  68. 3:57the weight, the bulk, the heft of the responsibility
  69. 4:01for discipling the offspring born into Christian families,
  70. 4:05it falls to the parents.
  71. 4:06Primarily to the father, not the mother, to the father.
  72. 4:11But this isn't an amazing how in most of our understanding
  73. 4:14and experiences that spiritual enterprise
  74. 4:16has been the province and domain of our women largely.
  75. 4:23I would submit for your consideration
  76. 4:26that that's not just a product of happenstance,
  77. 4:28but there's a snake in the garden.
  78. 4:33The Lord explains, the Lord blessed the marital union
  79. 4:37with the wonderful gift of the One Flesh Union.
  80. 4:39This is another thing.
  81. 4:40It is an affront to God that conversations concerning
  82. 4:45the beauty of the One Flesh Union are normally dominated
  83. 4:49unbelievers. We should be describing discussing that within the family of God.
  84. 4:55But often it doesn't happen because we're too busy playing defense instead of playing
  85. 4:59offense. Malachi 215 explains that the Lord blessed us with the privilege of the
  86. 5:07One Flesh Union. Why? Because the One God was looking pursuing the
  87. 5:11establishment of holy seed. Obviously, you know, the Lord knows children are born
  88. 5:17saved. So when he says holy seed, he's not talking about that they are, you know,
  89. 5:22immaculately conceived, he's talking about the investment of the family pouring into that offspring
  90. 5:29to maintain for his glory a multi-generational legacy of witnessing that is faithful to the Lord.
  91. 5:39The bulk of the multi-generational development of the church should transpire in the family,
  92. 5:45but as we more and more outsource the family's responsibility, the father and mother specifically
  93. 5:51outsourced at the external sources, we realize the deficiency in this model because the most
  94. 5:56fundamental component of disciple making is time. Is time. Jesus taught us in his teachings
  95. 6:05as well as it by his example that the most effective way to make a disciple is by life on life.
  96. 6:13That's why we have accounts of Jesus not only providing sermons on the mount,
  97. 6:16taking Peter out to the deep to fish, but you also see him going to weddings together.
  98. 6:20You also see them going to banquers together.
  99. 6:23You also see them hanging out of people's houses together
  100. 6:25because disciples must be made from intimate proximity.
  101. 6:29You can't make disciples from a distance.
  102. 6:31It is hard to make thorough disciples in large groups.
  103. 6:37Okay, so amen, just say out.
  104. 6:39I'm just, I'm just, listen, I'm just laying it
  105. 6:41because we have operated in such a manner,
  106. 6:45not realizing that we are investing in models and structures
  107. 6:50and systems within the Lord's family,
  108. 6:52that very well may be counterproductive to our objective.
  109. 6:56And then we wonder, hey, why is it that it seems
  110. 6:58with each passing generation that even within the church,
  111. 7:01they become more and more secularized.
  112. 7:05I'll tell you just like the book of Genesis tells you,
  113. 7:07everything reproduces after its own time.
  114. 7:10You wanna know why our children look the way they do?
  115. 7:13I wanna ask you, where did they spend
  116. 7:14the majority of their time?
  117. 7:17It ain't rocket science folks.
  118. 7:19If the majority of the time is spent being made excellent
  119. 7:23in a rebellious worldview, guess what's gonna be lived
  120. 7:26out in the character and in the condo.
  121. 7:31So I am endeavoring, even if I'm one man crying
  122. 7:35in the wilderness, that's cool,
  123. 7:37John the Baptist was there before me,
  124. 7:40to encourage us to turn our attentions to our homes,
  125. 7:45not to neglect of other areas,
  126. 7:48but certainly we cannot afford to sacrifice our homes
  127. 7:52to address other areas.
  128. 7:56I'll say one last thing in this and I'll get to the scripture,
  129. 7:58which today it won't be the only scripture.
  130. 8:00some of you wonder,
  131. 8:01hey, when you're gonna get to the word,
  132. 8:02oh, it's gonna be full of word today.
  133. 8:05There were a lot of people who panicked
  134. 8:07when former President Obama issued his edict
  135. 8:10concerning transgender bathroom.
  136. 8:14I know if you listen to this program,
  137. 8:15you heard me talk about this Boston opinion.
  138. 8:17And I told you even after President Trump became
  139. 8:20the 45th president of the United States
  140. 8:22that these folks weren't going anywhere,
  141. 8:25I told you that.
  142. 8:27That issue folks is once again put front and center.
  143. 8:32What are you going to do?
  144. 8:34If you send your child to be discipled in the place where the place tells you,
  145. 8:38there's nothing to think about me on this in female.
  146. 8:42Now I've explained that this is not only a statement concerning identity and,
  147. 8:46and, and, and sexuality is actually the anthropological history that underpins
  148. 8:50the gospel because if the culture can cause your child to question whether
  149. 8:54not Genesis one and two are authoritative, why wouldn't that same child begin to
  150. 8:58question? Well, why should Genesis three be authoritative? You see, a full on
  151. 9:08assault is lost on the gospel when your child is invited to question the authority of Genesis
  152. 9:13chapters 1, 2, and 3. All the way up to 11, quite frankly. Romans chapter 12, this is what
  153. 9:20we're going to go today. And this is something that, and the Lord has just emblazoned upon
  154. 9:27my heart. We're endeavoring to live this out fully within our local assembly, within my
  155. 9:34immediate biological family and my extended family. Let me read the text and I'll explain
  156. 9:40what I mean. Romans 12 verses 4 and 5 are where I'm going to go today. But this is the
  157. 9:50exact same chapter where the Spirit of God communicated through the Apostle Paul that we
  158. 9:55as Christ followers must not be squeezed into the mold of something that we are not. And
  159. 10:00we must not be conformed to this world, but we must continuously be transformed, the metamorpho
  160. 10:08process, metamorphosis process. The Greek word for transformed is metamorpho. That's
  161. 10:11we get our word in English, in English, metamorphosis, that we will continue in the
  162. 10:16metamorphol process until the Lord comes back or He calls us home. And it's in the
  163. 10:22same passage that the Lord begins to say that He says this, verse 4, whereas in one
  164. 10:27body we have many members and the members do not all have the same function. So we,
  165. 10:36We, though many, are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.
  166. 10:46I believe one of the great deficiencies of modern Christianity is that we have a deficient
  167. 10:51theological comprehension of what it means to be members of the body of Christ.
  168. 10:57I've explained here before that this ecclesiastical membership does not merely connect us to one
  169. 11:03another.
  170. 11:04One of the great travesties of our time is that the high and holy gathering of the Lord
  171. 11:09syncs together for worship.
  172. 11:12Worshipping together has been reduced to worshiping beside one another.
  173. 11:16To where though many of us would never put a time limit on an NFL football game, we'll
  174. 11:20plop in front of the TV for three hours for one game.
  175. 11:23And if you're like me, they have an amenity instance, is what I've watched more than one.
  176. 11:29But when you gather with the sites, we're checking the clock.
  177. 11:31And I'm looking, I'm not checking any about how I like sports.
  178. 11:34but what I'm saying is why is it that when there are matters that are carnal and a minimum,
  179. 11:40we can grant it full attention, but when it comes to the things of God and the worshiping
  180. 11:45together, which I would argue that for many of us it's been reduced to worshiping beside
  181. 11:49one another, and we put the Lord on the clock.
  182. 11:55We put him on the clock.
  183. 11:58One of the great travesties of this deficiency of the body of Christ is that we view fellowship
  184. 12:02and coin an ear as something ancillary to the gathering of the saints.
  185. 12:07When if you search the scriptures, you'll find that coin an ear was a part of the worship
  186. 12:12gathering.
  187. 12:14How can you obey different portions of scripture that when you have been reduced to worshiping
  188. 12:18beside one another?
  189. 12:20For example, know those who labor among you.
  190. 12:23How can you conduct and develop this intimate knowledge of one another if you reduce to a
  191. 12:2945 minute seating in silence beside one another.
  192. 12:34Quick to rush off the crack of barrel
  193. 12:35and then on to watch the football game.
  194. 12:37Listen, I know, I'm just telling ya,
  195. 12:39I'm just keeping 100 with ya'll.
  196. 12:42How can we obey those scriptures?
  197. 12:43How can we bear with one another in love
  198. 12:46if we don't even know one another?
  199. 12:50We have people who are quote unquote,
  200. 12:53members of our church,
  201. 12:54you don't even know if they have a spouse.
  202. 12:58You don't know their children.
  203. 13:00You've never been to their house,
  204. 13:01know have they ever been to your house? Some of us are in places. I won't say that.
  205. 13:06Thank you, Lord. And what I'm talking about is not a rebuke of any particular
  206. 13:14local assembly. What I am talking about is how we, the loss we suffer when we
  207. 13:19neglect these portions of what God has given us. And so the Apostle Paul says that
  208. 13:27we are members of the one body of Christ and individually, members of one
  209. 13:35another. Do you know what that means, man? When your members of one another, when you
  210. 13:43stub your big toe, you feel it all the way to the tippy top of your head. If you if
  211. 13:48you crush your fingertip with the with the hammer, you're gonna feel that all
  212. 13:52the way down to your pinky toe. You're gonna feel that through and through. It's far
  213. 13:57easier for us to have no reaction to what the members of our body feel when we are
  214. 14:03not members of one another. Something that happens to Jeff and his family, man, I feel
  215. 14:11that. Something happens to Rob and his family, I feel that. I don't have to work
  216. 14:17myself into a morning with those who mourn because I'm connected. His morning
  217. 14:21is my morning. That's not something I have to work myself into. And we know this on
  218. 14:27a natural level because when you hear your own children crying, how do you
  219. 14:30respond? But when you're disconnected and you hear a child crying, that's just
  220. 14:36another child crying. What I am saying is that a part of what's needed in our
  221. 14:42Our time is a robust, revisit and re-establishment of a theological understanding of what it
  222. 14:49means to be members of the body of Christ.
  223. 14:52And as a result, we have been made by his shed blood members of one another.
  224. 15:03And now your two-minute health and prayers update from the Presidential Prayer Team,
  225. 15:08a ministry of the Pray First Radio Network.
  226. 15:12together, we will keep Texas wide open for business.
  227. 15:18Now I will turn it over to Dr. Heller-Stit.
  228. 15:20Thank you Governor.
  229. 15:21Please Texas, let's see the wise guidance
  230. 15:25that the Governor has laid out.
  231. 15:26You've heard it many times before.
  232. 15:28We are at a very crucial point in time.
  233. 15:30As you can see that the data,
  234. 15:31the trends are going up in a way
  235. 15:34that we really need to get control of.
  236. 15:36We can get control of those by using the kind of guidance
  237. 15:39that we have laid out before.
  238. 15:40So the governor gave a great summary of them.
  239. 15:44It's all about hygiene, if you can, in an area
  240. 15:48where face covering, that's a really great idea.
  241. 15:51It helps to stop the spread of COVID-19.
  242. 15:54Hello, this is Jim Voldhouse,
  243. 15:56President of the Pray First Radio Network.
  244. 15:58During these times of uncertainty,
  245. 16:00we're here for you with current information
  246. 16:03about the COVID-19 virus,
  247. 16:05as well as important prayer points
  248. 16:07to guide you in prayer at a time
  249. 16:09when our country needs it most.
  250. 16:11John 1633 reminds us to keep our faith in God's great plan.
  251. 16:17I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace.
  252. 16:21In this world you will have trouble, but take heart.
  253. 16:24I have overcome the world.
  254. 16:27We'd like to invite you right now to join us in prayer.
  255. 16:30Heavenly Father, give us the encouragement we need
  256. 16:33and help us to remember this.
  257. 16:35Although we may not understand everything in the present,
  258. 16:38We must remain faithful and confident
  259. 16:40as your mysteries unfold in our daily lives.
  260. 16:44Help us to remember that we are indeed
  261. 16:46part of your greater plan.
  262. 16:48We ask these things in Jesus name, amen.
  263. 16:52To access free prayer resources that guide you in prayer
  264. 16:55and to see updates about the COVID-19 virus,
  265. 16:58go to PauseToPray.org.
  266. 17:01Brian Fisher here with today's Life and Liberty Minute.
  267. 17:03In the darkest days of England's lonely stand
  268. 17:06against Nazi Germany, Winston Churchill
  269. 17:08inspired his nation to keep the faith and refuse to surrender to the forces of evil.
  270. 17:13We are in a moment like that today in America.
  271. 17:16The satanic forces of evil are throwing everything they have at any man who dares to speak the truth,
  272. 17:22who dares to confront the malicious destroyers sent against everything noble right and true
  273. 17:28by the enemy of our souls.
  274. 17:30It's time to screw our courage to the sticking point and heed Churchill's call on these dark
  275. 17:35and dangerous times. Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never, never.
  276. 17:42In nothing, great or small, large or petty. Never yield a force. Never yield to the apparently
  277. 17:49overwhelming might of the enemy. Carry on.
  278. 17:52Catch Brian Fisher on Focal Point.
  279. 17:54Week day afternoons at 105 Central on American Family Radio.
  280. 18:06Shiting light into the darkness. This is the Hamilton Corner on American Family Radio.
  281. 18:12Welcome back to the Hamilton Corner here on American Family Radio.
  282. 18:15Abraham Hamilton the third here.
  283. 18:18Today's show is going to be a little bit different.
  284. 18:21If you were listening yesterday, you remember toward the end of the show, we received a call
  285. 18:27from Didi in Texas.
  286. 18:29Some of you remember that.
  287. 18:30I remember even people commenting on the various social media posts saying that, man,
  288. 18:36yeah, I agree with Didi.
  289. 18:37I feel just like Didi.
  290. 18:39I have to tell you, sometimes this happens to me
  291. 18:43when a call or something will stick with me.
  292. 18:46And in addition to hearing the words that Dee Dee shared
  293. 18:51with us, all of us really, here on the live on the air
  294. 18:54yesterday, her heart, her heart penetrated my soul.
  295. 19:01Penetrated my soul.
  296. 19:02It reminded me of the journey that the Lord has taken me
  297. 19:10that the Lord has taken me through even before coming to AFA.
  298. 19:14Because if you talk to my wife, she'll tell you,
  299. 19:16I'm really not doing anything any different now
  300. 19:18than I've been doing.
  301. 19:20I just, the Lord has just saw fit to bless me
  302. 19:23with a platform to allow me to make your acquaintances.
  303. 19:27But I have been doing this, and I remember,
  304. 19:31I remember when I was a younger man after,
  305. 19:34and I was telling some people at my house
  306. 19:36this story recently after former president Barack Obama who was then state senator Barack Obama
  307. 19:45spoke at the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Some of y'all may remember that. And I remember
  308. 19:49watching and listening, I said, who is this guy? And so I began to research him. Then I had no idea
  309. 19:58he run for the president, the Lord just led me in that direction. And I found all kind of stuff
  310. 20:02I don't know if this guy, you know, I remember I found this one questionnaire, you know,
  311. 20:07in some local state races, different organizations sent out questionnaires to allow candidates
  312. 20:13to fill them out.
  313. 20:14And this was in the late 90s, I believe, if I remember correctly, I'm doing all this for
  314. 20:20memory.
  315. 20:21A questionnaire was sent to all of the candidates for the state senate in Illinois, in this particular
  316. 20:25district where former president Obama was running.
  317. 20:28And they asked him whether or not they believed
  318. 20:31same-sex marriage should be constitutionally protected right.
  319. 20:35And right then the questionnaire,
  320. 20:37big and bright bold letters.
  321. 20:39Barack Hussein Obama, then a candidate for the Illinois State Senate,
  322. 20:44in writing provided his support for same-sex marriage, in writing.
  323. 20:50And so I had physical copies of these things in my own possession.
  324. 20:55And I remember when he finally started running for the president in 2008,
  325. 20:58People all over saying that oh he opposed the same sex marriage. I'll say what this is a lot now look
  326. 21:04I'm a journalist if I can find this stuff. I know the news media could find these things
  327. 21:10Then you start seeing now all our kind of other things and the the Lord moved me
  328. 21:16Well, I was going around to churches in my area
  329. 21:20Many of them populated primarily by melanating people saying warning this guy is a snake
  330. 21:26This guy is a snake and I remember and I won't go into more of the details
  331. 21:33But I was people said all kind of things about me and I remember thinking Lord
  332. 21:38You know me. I don't I remember something one person told me that
  333. 21:45Yeah, I'm just a hater. They are hater. What I say man. Y'all people are partial if this person that I'm saying the same information
  334. 21:53With you if this person had a different quantity of melanin in the skin
  335. 21:56You would not be responding to me in this way
  336. 21:58But putting that aside for a moment,
  337. 22:03Dee Dee's call reminded me of that.
  338. 22:06I remember having a conversation with my pastor
  339. 22:08in the one with the saying,
  340. 22:09why do they respond to me this way?
  341. 22:12These are people supposedly are Christian.
  342. 22:14My pastor said,
  343. 22:17Abe is the God of this world who has blinded their eyes.
  344. 22:21But your call is to be faithful.
  345. 22:24That's what he's doing.
  346. 22:26All right, so he kept going.
  347. 22:27So anyway, I don't want to stay there,
  348. 22:30but Dee Dee's call reminded me of that.
  349. 22:33And I want to play the call again,
  350. 22:39because maybe like me, this call resonated with you,
  351. 22:42and I know after listening to it,
  352. 22:44and I even said it on the air yesterday,
  353. 22:47I know DD represented scores of people
  354. 22:50all over the country.
  355. 22:52And there were people, as I said,
  356. 22:53they said, yeah, I feel the same way.
  357. 22:55So I want you to listen to DD's calls,
  358. 22:56just 26 seconds from yesterday.
  359. 22:59And what I'm going to do in this show,
  360. 23:01I want to offer some encouragement
  361. 23:02in a more detailed response to Dee Dee's call
  362. 23:08from the Word of God.
  363. 23:08And I hope you're listening, Dee Dee.
  364. 23:11This may be one you may wanna take notes,
  365. 23:12you may wanna save this podcast and revisit it.
  366. 23:15We're just gonna go over some basic things
  367. 23:17from the Word of God to enable us to respond appropriately.
  368. 23:19But Rob, would you please play Dee Dee's call?
  369. 23:21I feel like a small grain of fans on the ocean.
  370. 23:27And I have no idea how to share this information
  371. 23:30Did you give us daily with my friends and my family?
  372. 23:35I feel like a lot of them are lost
  373. 23:38and they believe everything to hear
  374. 23:42on mainstream media and I feel very moved
  375. 23:46but I need to do something.
  376. 23:51I wanna begin today responding to Deedee
  377. 23:56and the more thorough man and I answered her
  378. 23:58but the call was at the end of the program
  379. 24:00so I wasn't able to go in as in depth as I would like to.
  380. 24:05But I want to take her call piece by piece and go through just some biblical encouragement concerning her call.
  381. 24:14First, what I want to say is when you heard Didi say at the very end of that call that she felt very moved that she needed to do something,
  382. 24:25very moved that she needed to do something.
  383. 24:29I want you all listening to me to understand very well that if you are a Christ follower,
  384. 24:35you have been called to minister.
  385. 24:41You have been called to ministry every single Christ follower, every single one of us, there
  386. 24:49are Christ following is not a spectator sport because there is this importation, if you will,
  387. 25:00of an often secular mindset that's most obviously demonstrated
  388. 25:04in this celebrity idolatry that happens in our culture.
  389. 25:09Sometimes in the body of Christ, we develop this mindset
  390. 25:12where we have champions and we're like,
  391. 25:14go champion, go, go Jeff, go, go Abe, go.
  392. 25:18When it's nothing wrong with saying go Jeff, go, go,
  393. 25:20go Rob, go, go Abe, go.
  394. 25:22Unless it is only you cheering Jeff, Rob and Abel.
  395. 25:29See, we encourage one another.
  396. 25:30Yes, go, Jeff, go.
  397. 25:32And as Jeff goes, Lord, give me the grace and strength
  398. 25:35to go to.
  399. 25:36See, every single one of us are called to respond.
  400. 25:41You know, Matthew chapter five, verses 13 through 16,
  401. 25:45Jesus goes through great lengths in the sermon and amount
  402. 25:47to talk about, you are the salt of the earth.
  403. 25:50You are the light of the world.
  404. 25:52I've explained before, those you's there are plural.
  405. 25:55They were directed to the Jesus as immediate audience
  406. 25:58for the sermon and amount as well as all who would come
  407. 26:02faith in Jesus Christ. Jesus would all to say, what good is the light if you hide it under a
  408. 26:08bushel? No, the light has to be put on a lampstand because once it is elevated appropriately,
  409. 26:14it gives light to all that is in the house. So that movement you felt, Dee Dee, and those who are
  410. 26:21listening, that you feel the exact same way, I want to tell you that it is the Spirit of God
  411. 26:26compelling you to engage in your ministerial mandate at a different
  412. 26:34clip than you have been engaged before. That's what that is. Now having said that,
  413. 26:41there are specific, there are additional things that are involved here.
  414. 26:46All right? Like we have the Great Commission. We know and I want to say this
  415. 26:53from the beginning. I'm gonna go into more detail later, but I want to make sure
  416. 26:56where everybody understands that that calling to engage
  417. 27:00is not limited to a calling of political participation.
  418. 27:05See, as Christ followers, we are well aware
  419. 27:09of our rights as American citizens,
  420. 27:11not solely to maintain our American citizenship,
  421. 27:13but so that the gospel be not hindered.
  422. 27:16The Apostle Paul called upon his Roman citizenship,
  423. 27:19not merely to procure for himself benefits as a Roman,
  424. 27:25but he uses Roman citizenship
  425. 27:27to advance the gospel.
  426. 27:29And I am saying this to encourage us to resist
  427. 27:33the temptation to lean to the right or to the left.
  428. 27:39Because anything that is good has the capacity
  429. 27:42to become an idol for us.
  430. 27:44Food can become an idol.
  431. 27:46Sports can become an exercise.
  432. 27:49Can become an idol.
  433. 27:49Family can become an idol.
  434. 27:53We want to make sure that our engagement is Christ-anchored,
  435. 27:56gospel-centered, biblically guided.
  436. 28:00All right.
  437. 28:02So the great commission, which we commonly refer to,
  438. 28:05I wanna make sure we all understand exactly what that is.
  439. 28:08Matthew chapter 28, verses 16 through 20,
  440. 28:11this show was going by too fast.
  441. 28:13I got a good two hours more worth of content.
  442. 28:16Let me get on.
  443. 28:17Matthew 28 verse 16, it says this,
  444. 28:18Now 11 disciples went to Galilee
  445. 28:20to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them.
  446. 28:23And when they saw him, they worshiped him,
  447. 28:25but some doubted.
  448. 28:27And Jesus came and said to them,
  449. 28:28from all authority in heaven and earth has been given to me.
  450. 28:33Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
  451. 28:39of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded
  452. 28:45you and behold, I am with you always to the end of the age."
  453. 28:51You see, brothers and sisters, the Great Commission is not a call that is confined to the proclamation
  454. 28:57of the gospel. The Greek word is
  455. 28:59Yuan Gellian. That's what we're
  456. 29:00getting this word evangelical,
  457. 29:02Evangelism from. Making disciples
  458. 29:05requires us to proclaim the gospel.
  459. 29:08But the Lord's commission and
  460. 29:09totality is that we go into all
  461. 29:12the world. That is geographically
  462. 29:16and into demographically
  463. 29:17redemptive spaces to make
  464. 29:20disciples of all ethnos. A
  465. 29:23disciple is a discipline learner.
  466. 29:26A discipline learner is one who
  467. 29:27thinks God starts after him. The call to make disciples is to cultivate in a
  468. 29:34populace the capacity to as it says in verse 20 here obey all that Jesus Christ
  469. 29:39has commanded us. The commands for Christ are not limited to how you speak to one
  470. 29:47another. It includes how we engage with friends and family. It includes how we
  471. 29:52conduct ourselves as citizens. It includes the full scope of life,
  472. 29:56Man is in finances, leaving in the heiertis for your children's children.
  473. 30:04And in case you don't know, all things that Jesus has commanded us is not limited to verses in the red.
  474. 30:10You guys have heard me say this before. This is why I kind of don't rock with the Bibles that have red lettering
  475. 30:15because when you have red lettering, it's making distinction between the red letters and the black.
  476. 30:19And it gives the indication that with the Spirit of God pinned through the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 3,
  477. 30:24that all scriptures God breathed is kind of the question, well maybe not.
  478. 30:28because some are red, some are black.
  479. 30:30No, from Genesis to Revelation includes what Jesus has commanded us.
  480. 30:36Then on top of that, we have a specific context.
  481. 30:40This is something that I think needs to be conveyed more consistently
  482. 30:46as we discuss the Great Commission because the Lord has given us a specific context
  483. 30:51in which we are to obey Him in executing His commission in this Acts chapter 17,
  484. 30:572, verses 26 through 28. As the apostle Paul even quoted the
  485. 31:04Crete and poet Epimenedes, that's another story I gotta keep going because I
  486. 31:07got a lot to get to and I got a little bit of time.
  487. 31:10He says this in verse 26 and Acts 17, and he, God, made from one man or one blood
  488. 31:15every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined
  489. 31:20allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place that they should seek
  490. 31:27God and perhaps feel their way toward Him and find Him, yet He is actually not far from
  491. 31:31each one of us brothers and sisters.
  492. 31:33The mandate to execute the Lord's commission, He has also given us a particular context.
  493. 31:38So when you stop and consider, man, the 21st century things are going crazy.
  494. 31:42The Supreme Court issued the Bostock opinion almost five years to the date after the Bergenfeld
  495. 31:48decision.
  496. 31:49We got people in office and playing a parent who is still getting half a billion dollars
  497. 31:53and you have people burning down buildings,
  498. 31:57you have people using pain of inner city communities
  499. 31:59to say they want to defund the police,
  500. 32:00when the people in those communities saying,
  501. 32:01we don't want to defund the police,
  502. 32:03we support the police, we know we need the police.
  503. 32:06It's craziness going on, guess what, congratulations.
  504. 32:08That is the context that God has ordained for you
  505. 32:11and for me to execute his commission,
  506. 32:14to sit in a different way.
  507. 32:18The Lord is not surprised by this.
  508. 32:20He so prepared himself for it that he ordained you and me
  509. 32:24to stand in this moment.
  510. 32:26You mean in this moment we have hard-headed children
  511. 32:28and knuckle-headed family members?
  512. 32:30Yes, indeed.
  513. 32:32But, Abe, you don't know how hard it is.
  514. 32:33Listen, yes I do.
  515. 32:36And this is the moment because what God desires for us to do
  516. 32:41is to view people the way that he does.
  517. 32:45See, the Bible tells us that he does not rejoice
  518. 32:49in the death of the wicked.
  519. 32:52Just as our Lord, when he was incarnate,
  520. 32:55the Bible says he saw the crowds harassed and helpless.
  521. 32:59So I would say he was moved with compassion.
  522. 33:02He was moved internally.
  523. 33:05His innermost man drove him with compassion.
  524. 33:12That's why we can't afford to see people as if they are our enemies personally.
  525. 33:17Because they're not.
  526. 33:20They're not.
  527. 33:21Don't you know that our wrestling is not with flesh and blood?
  528. 33:25There are people who have been taken captive by darkness.
  529. 33:28And then what did Jesus say his work was to do?
  530. 33:30To liberate the Catholic.
  531. 33:34The next thing you heard D.D. say, and I just want to remind you about this, I'll try to
  532. 33:39do this quickly.
  533. 33:41She said that I feel like a small grain of sand, a small grain of sand on the ocean.
  534. 33:52Haven't we all felt like that before?
  535. 33:54I can tell you for a fact that I have.
  536. 33:57Some of y'all may laugh at me when you hear me say this, but every day before I come on
  537. 33:59this show, I'm nervous.
  538. 34:02Every day, every day, I say, Lord, you know how many people listen to this show?
  539. 34:10I cry out to the Lord for His grace and His strength to serve Him by serving His people well.
  540. 34:17Every day, y'all, if you had the chance to touch one of my church when I get done, that
  541. 34:20joy is soaking wet.
  542. 34:23Because I take this seriously, man.
  543. 34:25And to consider the way that I know the Lord loves His people, it's a high responsibility.
  544. 34:32But here's the thing, when God calls us to stand in the midst of this dark and evil day,
  545. 34:37He doesn't send us out alone.
  546. 34:39He doesn't send us out alone.
  547. 34:42He gives us of himself to enable us to obey him.
  548. 34:48We'll pick up right there on the other side of the break here on the Hamilton Corner.
  549. 34:52Stay with us.
  550. 35:01When they got chilly this winter, they issued an alert because the Aquinas are so cold, a frozen
  551. 35:07iguana might fall on your head.
  552. 35:09Focal Point with Brian Fisher.
  553. 35:10I want my listeners to be able to defend the truth and the authority of the Word of God as
  554. 35:15as it speaks to every area of life, family, culture, and even politics.
  555. 35:20We days at 1 p.m. Central on American Family Radio.
  556. 35:23And we hope to have a little bit of fun along the way.
  557. 35:26Okay, Brian. Now make me believe it.
  558. 35:28Ha!
  559. 35:32We all know George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis,
  560. 35:35and afterwards, its streets were flooded with riots.
  561. 35:38What you may not know is the area is turning into a place of peace.
  562. 35:41CDN reports that hundreds of people are gathering on the same street
  563. 35:44where George was killed to pray and worship together.
  564. 35:47People are becoming followers of Jesus and getting baptized.
  565. 35:50That's because Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace
  566. 35:53and He can break down the walls that divide us if we let Him.
  567. 35:56I'm Pastor John Miller, visit me at church on the rock nut at ORG.
  568. 36:01Targeting the family.
  569. 36:03This is David Wheaton, host of the Christian worldview.
  570. 36:06According to their website, Black Lives Matter
  571. 36:09is not just an organization that advocates for black people,
  572. 36:12but one that aims to disrupt the nuclear family,
  573. 36:15and promote homosexuality, transgenderism, and feminism.
  574. 36:20Notice how the God-ordained family
  575. 36:22is the target for destruction.
  576. 36:24What they call social justice is really Marxism,
  577. 36:28an ungodly totalitarian society that raises a clenched fist
  578. 36:32to God in rebellion and rejection of Him and His will.
  579. 36:36God's response in Psalm 2,
  580. 36:38do homage to the Son that He not become angry
  581. 36:41and you perish in the way.
  582. 36:43Here in interview about this with my parents
  583. 36:46who are in their late 80s at TheChristianWorldView.org
  584. 36:50and then tuning this weekend for another topic
  585. 36:52that will sharpen your world view.
  586. 36:54Listen to The Christian World View with David Wheaton,
  587. 36:56Saturday mornings at 8th Central on American Family Radio.
  588. 37:01Hello Americans, I'm Todd Starnes with Muse
  589. 37:04and commentary next.
  590. 37:06My goal as a teacher is to impart knowledge
  591. 37:10and then be able then for them to take it
  592. 37:13and turning into wisdom.
  593. 37:15As we teach, I think, okay, five years down the road,
  594. 37:19how will the material that I am teaching them
  595. 37:22really affect their lives and their careers?
  596. 37:27Hi Todd Starns here.
  597. 37:28Truett offers biblically centered degree programs.
  598. 37:31Check out Truett.edu slash Starns.
  599. 37:35Democrats in the mainstream media
  600. 37:37are pushing back after President Trump promised
  601. 37:40to defend religious liberty and reopen churches.
  602. 37:43The president said he would override any governor who refuses to let people get back
  603. 37:47to the church house.
  604. 37:48Whether or not the president has the constitutional right to do that is up for debate.
  605. 37:53Many pastors are wondering why liquor stores at abortion clinics are considered essential,
  606. 37:58but churches are not.
  607. 38:00California, for example, released new guidelines limiting the number of people who can congregate
  608. 38:05inside a church house, a maximum of 100 worshipers.
  609. 38:09start towing the party line publishing story after story of how shutting down churches
  610. 38:14could save lives.
  611. 38:16If blue state governors are going to temporarily suspend or curtail freedom of religion, they
  612. 38:21should do the same for freedom of the press.
  613. 38:24If they're going to shut down the churches, they should also shut down the newsrooms.
  614. 38:27Let's see what Anderson Cooper says about that.
  615. 38:30I'm Todd Stardes.
  616. 39:01But he did not.
  617. 39:02Acts chapter one.
  618. 39:05Verse six through eight.
  619. 39:07So when they had come together, they asked him,
  620. 39:09Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?
  621. 39:12He said to them,
  622. 39:12it is not for you to know times or seasons
  623. 39:14that the Father has fixed by his own authority,
  624. 39:16but you will receive power
  625. 39:20when the Holy Spirit has come upon you
  626. 39:23and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem
  627. 39:28and in all Judea and Samaria
  628. 39:30end to the end of the earth.
  629. 39:36Before the Lord explained anything concerning his disciples being his
  630. 39:45witnesses, he said you will be filled with power.
  631. 39:50Greek word there's doing this.
  632. 39:51We explained that before, but not filled for merely personal consumption.
  633. 39:58Explain this before you are filled for what purpose to be my witnesses.
  634. 40:03Explain me for the Greek word for witness there is Martis where we get our
  635. 40:07things where it martyred them from. That's why from this passage, I have
  636. 40:11repeatedly conveyed that the call to be a witness is not a call to a specific
  637. 40:16action, but a call to a state of being. You see, when you are a witness, you are
  638. 40:21one when you're on stage and when you're not. You're a witness when you're sitting
  639. 40:25at home in the dark by yourself and nobody can see what you're doing, except
  640. 40:30the one who sees and knows all. And you're a witness when you're in front of
  641. 40:33the masses of people, because being a witness is a state of being. Now, witnesses, evangelize,
  642. 40:43witnesses make disciples, but witnessing is a state of being. To say it in another way,
  643. 40:51the Lord has filled his witnesses to execute the Great Commission. He is indwelling you by
  644. 41:02his spirit, not for consumption, but for function, which is why I have a great deal of concern
  645. 41:11and caution for those who advocate for a minimized view and understanding of the Holy Spirit,
  646. 41:20because the fuel for the engine is the Spirit of God, it's not on us anyway.
  647. 41:29In addition to, and further responding to Dee Dee's statement that she felt like a small
  648. 41:33grain of sand in the ocean, I want you to remember that I called to effective engagement
  649. 41:39It is not based on our perception of our own size or impact.
  650. 41:46I intended to walk through all of these scriptures,
  651. 41:48but I'll just mention them so you can go and study them yourself.
  652. 41:51Do you remember I've talked about this on this program before?
  653. 41:54First Sammy, chapter 17.
  654. 41:57When the shepherd boy, he didn't come to fight,
  655. 41:59he just came to deliver lunch.
  656. 42:02And when he came to deliver lunch, he heard some, like my dad,
  657. 42:04you say some somebody selling wolf tickets, talking smack.
  658. 42:09Davis, I would say, say, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
  659. 42:11Say, what now?
  660. 42:13And then they start telling them, have you heard what the king would do for the person
  661. 42:16who deals with?
  662. 42:18David said, wait, what?
  663. 42:20What's going to happen to the person who slays this Philistine?
  664. 42:24I made this point and I want to reiterate it here and now throughout the entirety of that
  665. 42:29account, David never once refers to Goliath as a giant.
  666. 42:35He never once.
  667. 42:37Why is that?
  668. 42:38Because David's mechanism for evaluating that moment of engagement was completely steeped
  669. 42:44in his view of his God, that God was so big to David
  670. 42:49that he couldn't even already recognize the life.
  671. 42:52You understand what I'm saying?
  672. 42:54And just in case you don't know this,
  673. 42:56because we as human beings, we have a tendency
  674. 42:58to read ourselves into scripture as the heroes.
  675. 43:03When you read this text, you and I ain't David.
  676. 43:08I know that's news to some of us.
  677. 43:10No, you're not David.
  678. 43:13We like to think that, but the real truth is
  679. 43:15you and I probably would have been among
  680. 43:16those other people, man, you wanna fight that dude.
  681. 43:21In this passage, David is a representation
  682. 43:24of what Christ does for us.
  683. 43:29So when we are going, we're not going in our own strength.
  684. 43:32Naturally speaking, David had a stick in five smooth stones,
  685. 43:35but supernaturally speaking,
  686. 43:38David engaged with the power of the creator
  687. 43:40of the heaven and the earth.
  688. 43:42That's why five smooth songs become things
  689. 43:43that sink in skulls, and you gather five,
  690. 43:47but he knew you only needed one.
  691. 43:49What I'm saying to you is that what we have to do
  692. 43:52is resisted temptation to evaluate our commission
  693. 43:56and the context for our commission solely based
  694. 43:58on natural understanding.
  695. 44:00Instead, we live in the place.
  696. 44:03I know I do it, I do it every day before coming
  697. 44:05before coming on the air.
  698. 44:06I say, Lord, I know I'm just a dude
  699. 44:08from the ninth world in New Orleans.
  700. 44:09I know that, but Father, if you see fit to use me,
  701. 44:13if you see fit to minister to your people through me,
  702. 44:15Lord, have your way, have your way.
  703. 44:21And Dee Dee, I wanna tell you that though in your own eyes,
  704. 44:24You may feel like a small grain of sand.
  705. 44:26Put your small grain of sand in the hands of the one who makes grains of sand.
  706. 44:33Do I need to remind you that every human being that we see are the product of dirt formation?
  707. 44:39Do I need to remind you that we serve the God who allows Lazarus' to die though he loves
  708. 44:46them tremendously?
  709. 44:49But just so he can let those around them know that I'm not just your homeboy, yes you are
  710. 44:54son of the carpenter.
  711. 44:56I am God in the flesh.
  712. 44:59no one was expending faith on Lazarus's behalf. In fact, the morning party had started, the
  713. 45:03whaling women had begun. And they even said, yes, you have had you come sooner. We know
  714. 45:09you could have healed him from sickness. Yes, you would say, show me where you've laid
  715. 45:16it. Oh, brothers and sisters, I'm telling you, this is an example of how in our weakness,
  716. 45:21God's strength is perfected because it gives you an opportunity to fully surrender. I can't
  717. 45:27do it I don't speak well you're right you don't speak well I stutter you're right
  718. 45:32Lord look at my history you're right all of that is true and I bring it to me
  719. 45:36that's what God said listen God could use people with perfect backgrounds if you
  720. 45:42wanted to but he seems to like to use folks that know they need him isn't that
  721. 45:46amazing because it puts you in a position that when you're offering a
  722. 45:51gospel center truth you can say listen I am offering to you the very same thing
  723. 45:55I'm not taking up.
  724. 45:58Let me keep going.
  725. 45:59Goodness gracious.
  726. 46:00Lastly, on this point about feeling like a small grain
  727. 46:02of sand in the notion, if you search the scripture,
  728. 46:04you'll find the Lord very consistently uses a remnant.
  729. 46:09Gideon, go and deal with these malachites.
  730. 46:11Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa,
  731. 46:12your arm is too big, my man.
  732. 46:14Slow it down.
  733. 46:1530,000, let's make it 20,000.
  734. 46:17Oh, now let's make it 10,000.
  735. 46:19All right, Lord, 10,000, that's still too many.
  736. 46:22Let's make it 300.
  737. 46:23Then what?
  738. 46:26So there can be no confusion
  739. 46:28who is the source of this deliverance?
  740. 46:30I'm just reminding you, that's in Judges chapter six.
  741. 46:40Let me go on, she also said, Didi said,
  742. 46:43quote, I have no idea how to share this information.
  743. 46:49I wanna remind you of a portion of a portion of description.
  744. 46:52First Timothy chapter three,
  745. 46:54I'll buy what you're gonna turn to the R.A.
  746. 46:56First Timothy chapter three, I'm gonna buy the cooperative.
  747. 47:01Verses 10 through 14.
  748. 47:06I want to remind you of what, no, a second Timothy chapter three.
  749. 47:11Second Timothy chapter three.
  750. 47:13Your Apostle Paul writes this to Timothy.
  751. 47:16You, however, have followed my teaching,
  752. 47:19my conduct, my aim in life, my faith, my patience, my love,
  753. 47:25my steadfastness, my persecution, and sufferings
  754. 47:28that happen to be at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lister,
  755. 47:32which persecutions I endured, yet from them all the Lord rescued me.
  756. 47:37Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
  757. 47:42while evil men and seducers will wax worse and worse deceiving and being deceived.
  758. 47:49But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed,
  759. 47:54knowing from whom you learned it, and how from childhood you've been acquainted
  760. 47:59with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise
  761. 48:01for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
  762. 48:03What I want to point out specifically
  763. 48:05is that you'll note the Apostle Paul
  764. 48:06conveys to Timothy that I not only want you
  765. 48:09to listen to my teaching, all right?
  766. 48:11He tells Timothy, you have followed my teaching,
  767. 48:14but in addition to following my teaching,
  768. 48:15you have also followed my conduct.
  769. 48:20See, when we engage, we have to make sure
  770. 48:22that our engagement is the overflow of the life
  771. 48:25that we're living.
  772. 48:27You see, we don't want our words to contradict
  773. 48:30what we're attempting to convey verbally.
  774. 48:34So we wanna make sure that our words
  775. 48:38are the overflow of what we live.
  776. 48:41So that especially when those who do not agree with us,
  777. 48:44they know that what we're saying is consistent
  778. 48:48in what we do.
  779. 48:50Because if we don't have that consistency
  780. 48:52between talk and walk, what'll often happen
  781. 48:56is that the response will be that you're living so loud,
  782. 48:58I cannot give ear to what you're saying.
  783. 49:00Your life is so loud, I cannot hear what you're saying.
  784. 49:08Additionally, we wanna make sure we have a clear gospel
  785. 49:12centered objective.
  786. 49:14We have to make sure that our objective is to execute
  787. 49:17the Great Commission and not merely to win a debate
  788. 49:20or a political argument.
  789. 49:22Because in the process of making disciples,
  790. 49:24our goal and our call is to think God's thoughts after him.
  791. 49:30So we wanna make sure that our thinking lines up
  792. 49:33with God's thinking as he has revealed it to us in scripture in every arena.
  793. 49:38So as we line our thinking up with God's thinking,
  794. 49:40it will definitely impact the way that we engage our civic duties as citizens
  795. 49:45of this wonderful country, but our goal is to gain a brother,
  796. 49:49not merely to win an argument.
  797. 49:51And it's very easy to misconstrue that objective,
  798. 49:56especially when things get hot.
  799. 49:57Cause you know,
  800. 49:58you got somebody saying something that's,
  801. 49:59that's dribble and you know, you have the right answer.
  802. 50:01I would encourage you not merely to offer the right answer, but to offer the wise answer
  803. 50:08to gain a brother or to gain a sister.
  804. 50:12It's instructive that even when the Lord gave us the instructions for how to deal with fractions,
  805. 50:20not fractions, with fissures in the body based on sinfulness, that the purpose of confrontation
  806. 50:26is to win a brother.
  807. 50:27It's to gain a brother.
  808. 50:29To gain a sister.
  809. 50:31We must keep that first and foremost, because if we're not careful, we can downgrade from
  810. 50:36our gospel-centered perch, and now we're just winning the argument, winning debates, just
  811. 50:43sharing information that we have for the purposes of sharing them as opposed to executing our
  812. 50:50trade as witnesses.
  813. 50:52All right?
  814. 50:57Acts up to 28, verses 32, 31, I won't read it because we don't have time.
  815. 51:00But at the conclusion of the Apostle Paul's life, he discusses living in such a way so
  816. 51:04that the gospel continues unhindered.
  817. 51:07That is our call.
  818. 51:09We want to live in such a way, which means that we must
  819. 51:11discuss politics life, what the world says are social issues
  820. 51:15in such a way where the gospel be not hindered.
  821. 51:18All right?
  822. 51:22Did he also mention the challenge, the great challenge
  823. 51:24in ministering with family and friends.
  824. 51:27We all have that challenge.
  825. 51:29It's far easier to be a witness before strangers,
  826. 51:33oftentimes, because our family, they know it.
  827. 51:36Sometimes I know our history didn't know our other things.
  828. 51:38And I want to encourage you to resist intimidation
  829. 51:40to try to defend yourself based on your past.
  830. 51:43But simply get comfortable with saying,
  831. 51:45man, everything that you're saying is under the blood.
  832. 51:48That's why I love Jesus so much so.
  833. 51:51And regardless of what my history may be,
  834. 51:53it doesn't nullify the truth of what I'm saying to you
  835. 51:55and the truth that has transformed me.
  836. 51:58And we know this that when Jesus,
  837. 52:00I'm sorry, when Gideon initially responded to God's call
  838. 52:04before you ever get to fighting the Amalekis,
  839. 52:05The first thing God called him to do was what?
  840. 52:07Tear down the altars in his own home.
  841. 52:10He had to go to Daddy's house and tear down his
  842. 52:13by all worship station in his ash or a pole.
  843. 52:16And the Bible explains that Gideon,
  844. 52:17he waited till it was nighttime because he was scared.
  845. 52:22He was scared.
  846. 52:23Listen, God knows we get scared sometimes,
  847. 52:27but nevertheless his grace is sufficient for you.
  848. 52:32I have so much more I wanna say,
  849. 52:33but let me say this right now.
  850. 52:35The other thing I wanna make sure to convey
  851. 52:37is that we cling to scripture, cling to scripture.
  852. 52:42We're living in a time where people that are attempting
  853. 52:44to get us to abandon the scripture
  854. 52:45and engage in philosophing and rhetorical debate
  855. 52:49and oral gladiator shift void of the scripture.
  856. 52:52I would encourage you to resist that
  857. 52:54and develop the capacity to cling to the scripture
  858. 52:58and to do so whether you're citing chapter inverse or not.
  859. 53:01For your consideration, compare Paul's engagement
  860. 53:04with Felix Grippen, Acts chapter 26,
  861. 53:06with his engagement with the Athenians and the Stoics in Acts 17.
  862. 53:10The same Paul, the same gospel,
  863. 53:12but two different methods of approach.
  864. 53:14With the gripper, he appealed to,
  865. 53:16he in a gripper's common knowledge of the Hebrew Bible.
  866. 53:19He said to a gripper, I know you know this.
  867. 53:21Do you believe the prophets?
  868. 53:22I know you know the prophets.
  869. 53:23I know you believe the prophets.
  870. 53:24But in Athens, in the Mars Hill, Paul didn't quote the scripture.
  871. 53:29He still conveyed scripture without citing chapter and verse.
  872. 53:33We have to be able to do that.
  873. 53:37And finally, in a lot of this circumstance,
  874. 53:40we have this tension, what do we do?
  875. 53:42What do we do?
  876. 53:42Matthew chapter 22, verses 34 through 40.
  877. 53:46Love the Lord without our heart, soul, mind, and strength
  878. 53:48and the second commandment like it.
  879. 53:49Love your neighbor as yourself.
  880. 53:54Love your neighbor, because God has told us
  881. 53:57how to respond when there's difficulty,
  882. 53:59and when there are issues, when there's tension,
  883. 54:01and the law of love is what we are to engage with.
